As a transportation planner who has lived in Bengaluru for 3 years, I have always pondered about solving this problem.
The metro construction should be completed ASAP and augmented with feeder bus system.
Additionally, the major trunk roads should be made access-controlled. And the signals should be equipped with traffic cameras with ANPR technology to issue e-fines to traffic rule violators (especially those who make extreme lane changes after crossing the stop line).
Air taxi is not going to be affordable for most people.

On Bangalore roads, every junction, service lane merging, joints, etc are designed and constructed to give you an off-roading experience on the city road. Bus stops right before junctions expanding lanes from 3 to 5 and squeezing back to 2 lanes in span of 50 mts is high intellectual thinking. Parking is well planned and managed across the city. Building entries and foot path height is precisely engineered. U-Turns and lane mergings are a bless to Bangalorians. With all such innovations and extreme engineering, Govt still cannot understand why traffic blocks happen in Bangalore.
For example, Electronic City Nice Road Exit is a benchmark for Govt's planning, execution and quality of work.

IT industry is the most malleable in terms of centralisation. Technically, you don’t need large campuses to work effectively as shown by the pandemic. If government incentivises WFH policies, a lot of the burden on cities will be distributed to surrounding towns and their local economies will also improve. Another important point is to incentivise public transport for state and local governments. Make the buses and trains stick to a proper schedule, and people will prefer to use them. With widespread internet availability, you can also market buses and trains as time-savers because you don’t need to bother about driving. Lastly, invest in local businesses with an emphasis on hand made creative products. In this era of AI, humans are only limited by their creativity. Invest in creativity. Let the machines handle the repetitive tasks. People won’t migrate to large cities if they can find a good quality of life in their hometowns.

I am from Karnataka. The main reason for this traffic are
    1. Bengaluru has a Rapid grouth after 1990. Even population had trippled since 30 years.
    2. The rapid growth was not predicted by the government.
    3. The major traffic congestion takes place on outer Ring road Junctions which leads to IT parks, Industrial areas from Residential area.
    4. Uncontrolled urban grouth around the outer ring road. Irregular planning around IT parks.
    5. Needs public transportation options like suburban railways, BRTS.
    6. As per planning present metro should have 5 lanes but it is having only 2 lanes.
    7. The reality is most of the central govt doesn’t concentrate on Karnataka or Bengaluru. Example Bengaluru metro is only metro project funded by state government thats why it is called as namma metro.
    8. The Karnataka state govt should focus on developing tier 2 cities alternative to Bengaluru. Maharashtra, Tamilnadu, Gujarat have alternative cities
    9. Bengaluru needs self resilient planned satellite cities like Delhi, Mumbai
    10. The state govt must have vision towards infra development rather than freebies.

This grid should be dense enough to allow residents to get to a metro station within a 10-15 min walk from their residences. This will be expensive to build but this is the only practical solution for Bangalore. We shouldn't be thinking of adding more roads but find a way to remove vehicles from the existing roads. Any more delays will only escalate the costs further.

FACT: Siddaramaiah has been 13 times as financial minister since 1994 till 2018.

Out of 28+ years for peripheral ring road, he has presented 12 budget, but didn't release budget to PRR.
He presented so many budget didn't release budget to NEW BANGALORE CITY.

60+ of HISTORY shows, Congress only to made Bengaluru as CHOAS CITY.
Now another CHOAS Tunnels project ?
Why so many other projects of development plans was completely ignored by Congress like build 100 Parking lots , Garden, Parks and Lake development had been ignored by Congress.
Siddaramaiah did worked as finance minister and released 13 budget. Why is he not interested in development of Bengaluru and Surrounding areas and surrounding villages.
A CM who is not interested in any kind of developments.
It is entire Congress not interested in Development and growth of our city and our nation.
Why half ring road. I.e. Why Congress stopped NICE Project into half project ?
Why Congress did not allow PRR to complete.
Why Congress did hindrance to complete the NICE road and PRR.
Why Congress is not interested to complete the ring road PRR. 🤔
Congress stopped NICE ROAD to complete ring road.
They didn't do develop any one or single good design Ring road with proper Service roads. I.e. ORR is pathetic planning.
Many plans of BDA is pathetic executed by Congress Party.
Why and Where is PRR project which is pending nearly 3 decades.
There is no service roads all for ring road.
Totally nonsense n senseless ring road.
The Congress blame on NICE road is bad n Corrupt etc . Totally nonsense.
Congress does Nothing else but only blame game .
Nice road has helped Bengaluru to survive.
Because of Devegowda n NICE ROAD, Bengaluru survive.
Otherwise Completely DEAD Chaos CITY. 💀
Because of Devegowda, NICE road was successful till HALFWAY BUT Congress stopped the completion of NICE.
Because of Devegowda, Bengaluru first flyover was successful in Sirsi circles to Kr Market on Mysore road.... was successful 👌
There is no breathing for Lakhs of traffic jams.
Asia's no 1 in terms of " one way road."

    1. Any new house or building requires parking in the urban cities else no permission
    2. Reconstruction of old government buildings which has few floors to make a parking place in the first few floors and office on top. this way we will have lot of parking place and money for the government.
    3. roads near most of the junctions are not proper so vehicles go slow, this create extra layer of traffic.
    4. create flyovers where ever possible to reduce the city traffic.
these can be a game changer if implemented.

    • @AnirudhSrivatsa
      @AnirudhSrivatsa 9 месяцев назад +2

I have a slightly different point of view. Significantly increasing parking facilities and adding lots of flyovers would only provide very short term relief, but would quickly become a much bigger traffic nightmare due to induced demand for more cars.
We should reduce (and eventually, end) car dependency by significantly increasing mass public transit such as buses (Bangalore has very few buses compared to its population), dedicated bus lanes, Metro rail (which is in progress, but way too slowly), and even cycling lanes (which are actually a good option for travel within 5-7 km without luggage, which is a significant chunk of the daily urban commute currently being done by cars or cabs).
In the long term, we should decentralize workspaces and residential areas and develop more mixed neighbourhoods with a mix of office and residential spaces so that lots of people aren't commuting towards large choke points.
And of course, develop great satellite cities about 50-200 km away (Hosur and Mysuru, in Bengaluru's case).

It is the way the roads have been designed, most of the smaller roads aren't connected, they just end abruptly., thereby directing all the traffic to a few chokepoints. Smaller lanes need to be interconnected to take off the load from the arterial roads.
Example 1 - If someone has to go from Marathalli to towards Hebbal, they have to cross the Tin Factory junction. Why not just open up alternate routes that connect both sides. Example 2 - If someone has to move from Kundanahalli towards Silk Board, they have to cross through Marathalli. Why not just connect the Thuburahalli road to Ring road, it will reduce the congestion at Marathalli. Just these small changes will make a big difference it traffic situation.
Before long-term response to these problems are formulated, efficient use of existing resources will provide major reprieve.

It's on US guys, not on Nitin, Not on BJP, not Congress (we can keep blaming or asking for help but won't do any good)
Here's how and Why: 1) Educated working professionals are the real 21st century UN-educated culprits 🤕sadly for this. We need serious real education. We live in a environment (in-fact we see everyday) - where just one person going to office via his/her own car. Now isn't this our right to enjoy this comfort, in-fact they pay taxes isn't it? My comfort> everything. Why not use two wheelers/ cycles?
Oh! we have money right, so why care + it's the politicians duties to fix our world & make it a better place, isn't it?
    2) Every MNC, Startups, Companies offices in India, should start their main/ head offices in rural areas🎑. #Zoho has already started, once we do this - money flows to rural & sub-urban areas, that's where real impact starts happening.
    3) Move horizontally & vertically to a limit - we prefer having tall buildings because that's what we see in other countries, but we in India have still acres of land that's lying unutilized, we need to start making use of that. When we move horizontally progress will start happening in every part of India - resulting in better infra, roads, safety and plus better standard of living (with parents, or may be in less pollution).
Restrictions on vertical floors and expand horizontally, the more the company expands "Horizontally" the more India grows.
    4) The cyclists or walkers to offices should be really rewarded🤩 - they are the professionals who are really saving this world, doing their bit (not just CSR activities, please, but everyday what we do matters). Future generations will be thanking them or they can tell to them, oh! we did our best to save our planet. (Living nearby to office, may increase your budget a bit, but will be at peace, plus you can rent that unit out to someone - time to step out of our comfort zones)
    5) Start voting guys😶 - Yes a message to UN-educated again. Most of the people who have migrated to these cities, don't vote. They will just post here and there on social media and that too when something happened with them or with their loved ones. If you are not voting, anyway you don't a right to complain either.
Let's live nearby, go via cycle or walk, move to rural areas, expand horizontally and let's Vote.
Simple solutions, but DO we/ CAN we really do it?

I agree with this entirely, but most people need a nudge to change behavior especially for alternative modes of transportation like cycling and multi-modal commute. In many other countries, cycling is incentivized by both the governments and employers. They give tax rebates for cycling and also for buying any cycle for work. In France, somewhere I read that their government is offering 4000 euros to those who are willing to exchange cars for an electric cycle.

Spent about 5 years now in Bangalore watching almost no progress in metro development. The green walls around metro pillars are a sore sight to every working Bangalorean. I agree to one of the comments here which points out the lapse in decision to not bring about any change during post lockdown + WFH time. Now, you cannot just shut off the city for development. Congestion is a real issue already, blocking roads for development, especially when alternate routes wouldn't accommodate vehicles will be raising hell. You also have to tend to local businesses and people, which are much larger in number than people who have the option of WFH. Not much of an expert here, but Bangaloreans would definitely agree to some degree of commute sacrifice to help enable such development, even if it means reducing commute (even odd days, etc). Also, it's high time to keep Bangalore traffic problem out of vote bank politics. Would love to drop the last part from "Bangalore is the best except traffic is a headache" :)

The understanding of traffic problems in Bengaluru is no rocket science. The culprit is the MOVEMENT of workforces to industrial hubs from far away located residential areas. Lack of planning residential zones in the vicinity of industrial corridors is the issue here. No roads, rail, air, or water ways would solve this problem designed. There should be a clear policy that should permit industries only if their exists residential land bank in the vicinity. Also, giving incentives to industries that encourage work from home for employees would be a smart approach to takle this traffic issue.

What Gadgari said is absolutely right. Its not valid with respect to Bangalore, its with development of every city and towns. However you invest in projects on roads, highways, anywhere in India, its not going to ease and save the time of common people due traffic congestion. On the contrary, instead of investing so much money on infrastructure in the already congested place, there should be decentralisation of companies and commercial establishments coming up. These buildings and employment should be generated everywhere round the city than focussing on only one place. Then there should be this flexi timing introduced and enforced by every company Management and HR, be it big of small. Flexi timing is a great option so that employees travelling an hour early to work and leaving early from work can ease a lot of congestion. Plus ofcourse work from home concept, though should not be permanent, the employees can be given an option of 1 or 2 days work from home. Without all this, new infrastructures will only help the people a little. And people of Bangalore will keep on crying about he traffic. To easte conegestion, traffic distribution, no parking on the road and other small measures are a must.

South People should also learn to movie away from house and move north. Once demanr increases these companies will make buildings in north. I live in Noida and am from Assam. I have stayed in many places. While Bengaluru is cool and great but people specially south people should plan to move north because you guys will ensure quality devs and all in north too and. Public infrastructure is already great here because govt didn't have to rush things. Now its your tuen to move and decentralise. This entire India is your and mind and we should all learn to understand what Sri AdiSankaracharya had told us centuries ago.

@@erabhikdasgupta Absolutely South people should and will go to North and other places, but for that North people should develop North to the level of South in all respects. It would be great if all companies set up shop in North as they did in Noida or Gurgaon, but finally both these are nowhere near Bangalore. First and foremost the security and authoritative character of individualism without collective growth has to be shed away and people have to be simple, humble and social in culture to develop uniformly. Forget South even if North develops cities to the level to cater to the people of North, it will be great achievement and more than enough. And mind you South people are more spreaded all over India and the world than people of North. We want to see so many Bangalores in North so that its good for all. People of South will always be ready to share their intellect and experience to develop every part of India.

@@jayaprakashbalan2510 Thats the problem.withthis mentality. If noth had the capability to develop it on their own they would have done so. You don't want to move out of your comfort zone but let me tell you something, your comfort zone is not so comfortable anymore. With rising prices of accomodation, healthcare, traffic congestions, scarcity of water etc. Move out of your comfort zone and come to places where your skills will them those places grow. You need to reach out and help them develop in all respects. You guys need to be the guiding force. Only then this nation will develop. You are not making any money. All that dollar conversation salary you make, you burn in on even getting basic necessities but you can save a lot moee up north and in return north has got to learn a lot from you. Companies will only come when the employees are ready ro come. It may be hardship of 2 to 4 years in terms of food and language but when you work hard to bring that skill upgradation, you will make wonders. The northies workforce who will join and see you as a rold model they will try to work as hard as you do. But as I said you need to take that jimp out of comfort zone but if you keep waiting for miracle of Noida, Gurgaon to come to standards of Bengaluru for you to move then keep cribbing for whole nation. The developed cities will be unaffordable and newer citicies will be unskilled. And when the say you, I meant the entire south, atleast who want to join the workforce now.
When you say all iver India its always in USA, Singapore, and Europe where you have nore comfort that bengalore not other way round.

@@erabhikdasgupta Thats the problem.with this mentality. Who said North do not have the capability to develop of their own, but its simply they are more dependend on politics to develope than work on their own and how would they work on their own, when they do not believe in social collectiveness. You don't want to think out of your comfort zone and then criticize others and find your own excuses. Even rising prices is the responsibility of the people who wants differentiation between people and want everything for their own. How will then things improve or every location grow. First educated and think and move out of your comfort zone and not come, go to your own places and use your skills to develop your own place than going somewhere and spending life elswhere and then keep crying. You guys need to act than just talk. Nation will not develop if ones own place is not developed. So, first improve your roots before day dreaming. Its nothing about money. Money can't make a place or people's life develop. Companies will not come if you keep talking and playing petty useless religious politics than doing something consructive. Philosophy doesn't make you grow. Change your arrogant character and attitude and think collectively even for others. Only then Noida, Gurgaon and other North places will come to standards of Bengaluru or South.

Bengaluru is a plateau on top of a plateau - the terrain isn’t too favorable. That’s the first problem.
But isn’t that the same reason why the city s weather is so pleasant!

All are rich in Bangalore, so buying cars instead of bikes. Cars are the real culprit. Karnataka should ban more than 1 car in a family.

No vision from Gadkari for urban traffic. Thats very sad . Bangalore needs to expand its underground and above ground metro 100 times more what it is now. Like tube in London and Chinese cities .It can adopt " big dug" like in boston. only double decker electric busses . Work from home culture should be endorsed .The state should have masterplan for at least 30 years ahead for bangalore.
