Wirewound will not give you audio taper its not linear either but more like a stepped change in the resistance used for higher wattage voltages etc not audio

Quite a bit actually… The bigger one is a multi turn wire wound potentiometer basically meaning that you can get a great deal of Precision as opposed to the smaller one which will rotate about 270° or so for the full range ...also smaller ones can be linear or logarithmic (logarithmic basically means greater change per degree on the lower side and less change per degree on the higher side...volume knobs tend to be logarithmic since our hearing is also logarithmic in sensitivity)... Large wirewound are usually linear for outmost accuracy. The big deal about these large multiturns vs small multiturns is in the duty cycle...small ones can only be turned about 10 complete cycles before wear takes its toll...but the large wirewound ones can take cycles in the thousands.
