Now your tweet makes sense, every dealership i've been to has allowed me try before you buy, asking you to make a commitment before you try is outrageous.
Not all Bmw dealers are the same, I went to one where the sales manager couldn't be bothered to sell me the bike, a G310, and didn't know the answers to my questions, for example, gave me a price of several hundred pounds to have the bike in blue or white, when it's only £45. the next week I purchased it from balderston in Peterborough. No pressure and answered my questions, even got the bike in the colour I wanted within three days. Excellent service and highly recommended.
Glad I’m not the only one that thinks this. I’ll quite often pop up Dick Lovett and enjoy a free hot drink and a biscuit while admiring the new bikes and having a casual chat with the sales chaps. Compare that to Fowlers, couldn’t be more different. It’s no surprise to me that the GS sells so well, I’d be fascinated to see what happened to Fowlers sales figures if they put the BMW sales team in there.
BMW dealership in West Yorkshire charges £10 to £12 prior to any test ride. Payment isn't refunded either if the bike is purchased thereafter from same dealer....
I went to Triumph in Wellingborough for a test ride of a Tiger 800 in May, telling them I would Not be interested in buying till the end of the year. They could not have been more helpful with absolutely no pressure. I was so impressed with them, I actually went back and pre-ordered my next bike for 15th October! Your local KTM dealer are idiots!!!
I knew which dealership it was before you even said KTM let alone Fowlers! As you say, DL (BMW) are super (especially Mike). I can understand their position (free joyride if you're not going to buy it) but BMW let me test the rNinet when it came out and I knew I had to start saving for one. So a bit shortsighted and annoying, but I can see their point tbf.
Yeah I alway deal with Luke at DL. My G310 will have to go in for its first service soon and i know I'll probably be able to request a certain bike to ride while mine is all. Always good in there.
I have a relative in the motorbike trade so I can see their point of view. They get loads of people wanting to try bikes with absolutely no intention of buying. It's a way of reducing the time wasters. You only have to look at RUclips to see how many 'test rides' are on here, its relentless... If you are thinking of buying then why wouldn't you check out the affordability first? Then if all ok, try the bike and Bob's your uncle. You can always say no afterwards. Perhaps the dealer should have handled it better.

They cannot ask you to make a deal in return for a test ride lol

Yep, that's the way to do it. Decent customer service will always pay off
I find that bmw and ducati have great customer service regarding test rides that's my experience.

Stick with BMW's mate; I'll never buy another KTM again after my experience with them 😳
