Only way for Boeing is to invest in R&D, Hire Genuine Knowledge engineers for right pay and treat them so good that they build great flying machines and so Boeing can Fly the Skies like a Queen. Until then I doubt it is the End of Boeing with current way of Company.

You forgot to mention Boeings Starliner. Space X got the job done in half the time for half the $. And Starliner has STILL yet to fly people into space. This is what happens when your board of directors doesn't really care about aerospace. The MCAS debacle occurred after Boeing sold their in-house software division, and outsourced the SW development of MCAS ... During Starliner development, (after the Java & Ethiopian crashes) Boeing was coached in software, by NASA.

You're looking using the wrong glasses. The problems are not the one you have mentioned. Cuts and compromises of the quality to maximize profits ! That's the problem.
Because Airbus are outsourcing as well to entire globe for components of their aircraft, but quality is their top priority.
With all due respect, I disagree with you. As a retired, 42 year veteran of Boeing I worked as a manufacturing engineer and my last 11 years in supplier management. In my experience, outsourcing of parts is a symptom of the change in culture at Boeing, not a cause. I can also emphatically state that there is no such thing as “cheap production techniques” that go into Boeing products.
That said, I do agree that over the years there has been a shift in the leadership culture which places greater emphasis on schedule and cost, resulting in quality becoming less of a focus. Where you place the emphasis is what gets done.

This is a pattern. Whenever engineers are in charge of a company, their objective is to "improve the product", which subsequently improves revenues if done correctly. When such a company reaches heights, greedy businessmen want a piece of that money making machine, consequently they employ crony "managers" who change the objective to "maximise profits". When such things happen at companies that build products used by mass public, events like these are just inevitable. The government should regulate all such sectors to ensure that the CTO has at least as much executive power as the CEO. The profits are important, but not at the cost of safety and innovation.
The objective needs to be (maximise profits + minimise safety mishaps). We need two individuals who are both democratically fighting for their individual objectives. Rather than one "president/CEO" who will override anything for profits.
This was codified into corporate practice in the 70’s by Milton Friedman who decreed that the ONLY goal of a corporation was to make money for shareholders. So, screw the workers, eff up the environment, bankrupt your suppliers and kill your customers. None of it matters as long as the elites, er, shareholders get their profits. And once one has extracted all the value from that company, sell your shares and move on to the next one.

It ain't unbelievable actually because governments look after corporate crooks especially in the US it's now the same in most western countries. So it's no surprise that the corporate scum that run Boeing are walking around free just look back to the financial crisis era of 2008 to 2009 after the Obama administration took over at the beginning of 2009 they did very little to crooked bank executives the same culture still exists today with governments across the western world will it change I won't hold my breath. Palki, you forgot to mention it was China who first grounded the 737 Max after those 2 crashes- this prompted other countries to follow suit. The US FAA was the last to ground the plane and seemingly there was a collusion between Boeing and the FAA to allow them to fly for as long as they did before fixing the problem.
Yup FAA was the last authority to ban them, when literally all other countries in the rest of the world including their allies like UK & Canada had. Stupid!

The videos you record whether that be of Flashback or Between the Lines or even your show Vantage for that matter. They aren't just shows, but a way for the common man who does not have much expertise in what's going on in the world, to understand in the simplest of language, why what's happening.
If I take my example, I wasn't interested in news until 2021. The year, when I began watching your shows. And since then, there have been no setbacks for me. I was haled as one of the most intelligent students in my class at school and appreciated by my teachers, and the same is the case at college in the present times.
To cut it short, your videos have the power to transform people's personalities.
I have worked for Boeing there layoff of engineers and workers are so frequent and has Bad Management always willing to sacrifice workers, engineers, quality and safety for profit. It is Bad company to work for Engineers and Workers.

Airbus cockpits had the same layout for different aircraft. Pilot training on different versions was minimized as was maintenance.
Around 190 Boeing 737 Max are ordered by Indian companies, maybe they should put it on hold or something. There is so much negativity around these planes the companies should probably look for alternatives

I am a layman when it comes to comment on Modern Aircrafts.
However I have developed an interest in the Aircraft industry, read and listen to a lot of material in relation to new developments and the happenings.
After learning about the Lion Air crash, I read almost all articles about the crash.
In my mind the problem was Boeing trying to counter a design issue due to the larger engines with a big cowling sitting far ahead of the wings by a simple software.
I was schedule to fly to Srilanka in November 2018.
The chepest ticket was US$850 return and I had a booking.
When I realised that two sectors out of the three to reach SriLanka was on 737Max I changed and flew Emirates instead.
The cost was $500/ more.
My wife asked me, " are you crazy?"
I told her that I don't want her to spend rest of her life as a widow.
If, I, as a layman had realised that the issue is serious why didn't Boeing which had more detailed infomation about the characteristics of the Aircraft..
In my openion the major mistake Boeing made was not to come in the open and ground the Max 8 after the first crash but waited for the second to happen.

What I never understood about Boeings logic is they're plan for whenever MCAS would be discovered. Even if there was never a crash, it's inevitable an incident would occur at some point in the future, and they designed it in a way to not be overridden by manual force. What did they honestly think was gonna happen!

I like the way you talked about aviation companies of Boeing it's interesting & and educational. I'm late in commenting about these subjects. I have worked for Boeing 747B aircraft with Singapore Airlines before. In the wings section , we can not master the whole aircraft on jobcentre, artisans works in each individual section only & have serial rubber stamp numbers with them, he stamps on the parts which he had completed is job in case any problems in that particular parts he works on it ! The engineering dept. who knows, who had done it !
I am honestly very scared to fly a Boeing 737 Max. I now consciously check which aircraft I am boarding/buying the ticket. I feel assured when its Airbus.

The problem is instead of innovating we are more focused on maximizing profit and sanction those who does batter than us. At the end of the day even US citizens are in danger and do the system care about that? No! A former Manger at Boeing said that he would never step his foot on a 737 Max. It has so many flaws which are beyond repairable. Boeing laid off 900 of its quality control engineers which is very scary. Until the management is replaced, keep your fingers crossed when are in a Boeing. Also, the FAA has become so corrupt in recent years. A complete overhaul is needed.

Very interesting, but hasn’t Air India placed an order for some 200 or so new planes, many of them being the Maxjets, with its troubled history, with Boeing? It would have been pertinent to address that question in this video.
Such case studies help in understanding the businesses and geopolitics a lot.

Excellent reporting. It does seem that the Bottom Line, has been the undoing of many companies. The Bottom line is really about discontent, sadness, disconnection from customers, avarice, discontent, dissilussion with customers, planning without consideration, planning just for the sake of planning, theorizing without consulting, worrying about profits, cost being the to priority, excuses, no investment, deals, greed, avarice, keeping things behind closed doors, not giving a xxx about others, only matters what we think.

Why should it pull up? In mechanics, I have learned that one can shift the engines along their axis. Do engines at the tail push the plane down?

That was not just a "part" of the problem, it *WAS* the problem -- the whole problem going in. The 737 Max was intended to meet the airlines' requirement of greater fuel efficiency and longer flying range, hence the new engines.
The problem was, the new engines were physically larger (in diameter), hence they couldn't be mounted on the existing 737 wing using the same mounts. This led to the need to redesign, and thus to MCAS etc. The problem was, the new physical layout and MCAS software, if properly disclosed to the customers and to the regulatory authorites, would have necessitated a costly re-certification process for the 737 Max, and retraining for the pilots. They (Boeing) wanted to avoid this, so they concealed this fact from the customers and the regulatory authorities.
@@BlueFish-kq9fh I know that problem with the diameter, and that the engines got shifted forward. But that does not explain to me why MCAS was necessary.
Second, I had to deal with nuclear power stations. There everything regarding control and protection has to be tripled and brought to a two-of-three-selection device until the signal goes on to the automatic tripping control. I cannot understand why somebody got the idea to use only one angle-of-attack sensor and a second one optionally. There must be three with an indication when one of them differs too much.
For me, Boeing and the FAA together were guilty of those accidents. And US attorneys run to the court if a coffee has been too hot. But 300 dead and a guilty state organization are not enough to activate justice.
@@gottfriedheumesser1994 Hi Gottfried, thanks for your reply. As far as I have been able to discern (from the publicly available info), MCAS was a quick-fix devised by Boeing to overcome the following sequence of problems (and keep them hidden):
1. The changed engine-mount design on the existing wing produced a turning moment on the aircraft around the pitch axis (i.e. the aircraft nose tended to pitch up), especially in high-thrust scenarios such as takeoff.
2. MCAS was designed to counteract this tendency by deliberately causing the flight-control software to generate a pitch down command as soon as it detected a pitch-up problem. The faulty AoA sensors that you mention only made matters worse because it caused the flight software to think there was a pitch-up problem where there was *not* in fact such a problem. So, bottom line, the pilots (who had not been informed of all this background information, not trained to handle it in the simulator) experienced a sudden (and presumably alarming) pitch-down behaviour of the aircraft soon after takeoff. They (the pilots) pulled back on the stick to counteract this.
3. MCAS fought the pilot's actions by generating more pitch-down commands. Within a few seconds, MCAS and the pilot were fighting each other for control of the aircraft, and (it appears) MCAS locked out the pilot's command input. Meanwhile, according to observers on the ground, the plane was "porpoising", losing altitude and out of control. The rest, as they say, is history -- tragic history.
4. All these problems would have been manageable if Boeing (whose engineers knew about the problems during testing) had been honest with the NTSB and admitted that the 737 MAX wing/engine-mount combo was a major redesign of the original 737, necessitating major flight-testing and safety validation for Boeing and the NTSB, and pilot retraining and requalification for the airlines.
5. Boeing didn't want to be open and up-front about any of this, for fear of losing sales to Airbus. So 737 MAX pilots had no clue about the existence of these problems lurking in their aircraft. They were blind-sided. They thought they were flying a "new and improved" version of the classic 737, but they were not. They were flying a different aircraft with different handling characteristics, an aircraft they had not been trained to fly.
6. The answer to your question (why MCAS?) was, I believe: "so that we (Boeing) can solve this pitch-up problem by stealth, and the NTSB and our customers are not made aware of it".
7. FWIW, I think all the praise of Boeing's "classic" aircraft (707, 737, 747, B-52 etc.) was fully justified. Those were engineering marvels, a tribute to what can be achieved (and *was* routinely achieved) by a company that put safety and engineering first, not last. A company that was not even aware of horse-manure concepts like DEI and wokeism.

Boeing's initial failure was to adhere too long to aluminum rivet technology until the B-777. Airbus introduced reinforced epoxy for structure components more and more into its planes for years. As it was absolutely necessary to introduce new technologies, Boeing had to make a great leap in technology for the B-787 Dreamliner and pay a lot for mishaps and time delays. So they could not afford to design a successor for the aging B-737 which was the cash cow for the company for decades. Airbus is already talking about a total replacement for the A-320 family which is much younger. As this was not enough, some things did not work properly in the space department, so everything seemed to fail.

There is no doubt that Boeing changed the course of aviation with some remarkable airplanes like the 707 ( lessons learned from comets crash), the 747 and 737. But the Boeing today isnt the Boeing that once had Quality over Quantity.
The downfall of Boeing began after the merger with McDonald Douglas Corporation who had very fatefull accidenta with their DC jets.
The 737 framework is designed in the late 60s and is over 65 years old derived from the 707. Tgey just keep putting new engines and naming the 737 with variant names. The design of the 60s has a tolerance limit and it has already exeeded. Ita time boeing build a new plane from scratch to replace the 737. They should have re engineered the 757.
Boeing could still come back.. Qulaity measures should be met.

It won’t be. This has been happening consistently throughout the business world since at least the 80’s. The people who hold the purse strings extract all the value out of the company, get their money out, and just leave the rotting shell and devastated employees as they move on to their next golden goose.

Indians we tend to enter late into the room but I assure we will long last.. Aviation is just 100 Years Old. And the future is INDIA... Time will tell who is real winner and leader of the Race.

Airbus A320 wings are cracking and an Airworthiness Directive has been issued pertaining to this serious problem.
A wing breaking off in flight is a lot more serious than a plug door blowing out.

I feel like there should be a limit on profit seeking for the companies, if people's lives are involved. Like airplane manufacturers or in medical field. But not sure how it will impact the innovation/progress.

Palki doesnt have to read between the lines. The downfall of Boeing has been well documented in the netflix series two years ago after the two Max aircrafts were crashed. Also the series was called “Downfall”. Go watch that people, you will know how dangerous it is to fly with any Boeing aircraft.

That's why Engineering companies should be run by Engineers, Engineers don't care about profits, they care about quality and creativity. When MBAs run Engineering companies, they don't understand what's going on, they only see what steps will bring more profit.
The irony of it all this that most MBAs are themselves engineers, or former engineers. They get their Bachelor's degree (and sometimes their Master's) in some kind of engineering discipline, then perceive that there's no money (at least, no big money) in it. So they get their MBA, thinking that this scam will bring them the big money.
