Campanile di San Nicolò - St. Nicolò Bells Tower - Lecco

Il campanile di San Nicolò, situato vicino alla Basilica da cui prende il nome, è uno dei simboli della città di Lecco (Lombardia, nord Italia), ed è il 7° campanile in altezza più alto di Italia e uno dei primi in Europa.
Situato all'interno dell'oratorio parrocchiale, in posizione isolata su un vecchio torrione difensivo del Quattrocento di forma circolare facente parte della vecchia fortificazione muraria della città in epoca medievale, fu inaugurato la notte di Natale del 1904 ed è chiamato affettuosamente dai lecchesi Matitone per la sua particolare forma ottagonale e per la cuspide di forma piramidale.
Dal mese di aprile 2015 é possibile visitare il monumento grazie ad un gruppo di volontari della parrocchia partendo dai sotterranei del torrione fino a raggiungere la balconata un meraviglioso terrazzo dove è possibile osservare tutta la città, il lago e le montagne circostanti.

The bell tower of San Nicolò, located near the Basilica from which it takes its name, is one of the symbols of the city of Lecco (Lombardy, northern Italy), and is the 7th tallest bell tower in Italy and one of the first in Europe.
Located inside the parish youngs center on an old fifteenth-century defensive circular tower forming part of the old fortification of the city in the Middle Ages, it was inaugurated on Christmas 1904.
From April 2015 it is possible to visit the monument thanks to a group of volunteers from the parish starting from the dungeons of the tower until reaching the balcony "a wonderful terrace" where it is possible to observe the whole city, the lake and the surrounding mountains.
