The house checks some of my boxes, but: The TV over the fireplace is not good, both for viewing and the TV electronics, even if it is primarily decorative. The kitchen is a bit cramped even though there's a shallow pantry closet. The freestanding tub is not convenient to use with a shower.
The walk in closet needs a section for long coats, gowns and other full length clothing, preferably 2 slots so clothing isn't squished in with coats. A coat closet as opposed to a rack, which will look tacky if more than one real item is hanging. Most of these designs are also lacking linen closets, broom closets and not much practical space around bath sinks for every day items. Pantries would be nice too. Dishwasher placement should include adequate cupboard space right above to expedite putting dishes away. The designs look great, but need FUNCTION worked into the mix.
I Love the floor plan BUT quite frankly the interior decorating is “ gaudy” tooooo. Much stuff , the eye gets lost in the “ stuff” to real,y appreciate the beauty of the house design…..you asked for opinions and I hope mine did not offend anyone, just my thoughts on this lovely house
The window in the living room needs to be centered on the wall. I really wish all designers would STOP putting windows over the bathtub that require one to climb into the bathtub to open or close the window!!! It's a privacy wand a call risk. Ask me how I know.
Once again a front door that opens right into the main living area. Sigh. I’m actually looking for plans for a new house I want to build but every one of them opens into the main living area. That’s fine if you live in a country/place that doesn’t have a heavy duty winter like we do but not here in Canada. It just doesn’t work. The rest of the house is great though.
Ok here we go again. It must be all men who design these. Because the laundry room is always off the kitchen, not where the bedrooms are. The accent walls are nice but that's about it for this house.
On the exterior, it would, in my opinion, look spectacular if you had done a stone where the house was painted white. On the interior: The fireplace design is all wrong, it is too modern and you've only got one couch that is modern. Speaking of which, it is unappealing along with the curtains. Moving on to the master bedroom, the same curtains, NO. The mix of modern bed with traditional styling is not working. Master bathroom tub/shower and separate shower is confusing. And separate shower is too small. Second bathroom has no shower, has a spout but no shower head. And, AGAIN, shelves in shower making it difficult to move AND they would get wet. Hope you found this to be helpful as that was the intention.
The television is much too high. You don't need a fireplace these days. Underfloor heating, have you thought about that? We Europeans have a wood stove in the kitchen, as an emergency cooking device if the power goes out. But that's about it. You can also generate electricity with solar energy or a wind turbine on the roof. Does it always have to be a wooden house? Bricks insulate much better, and you don't have to worry about unpleasant roommates. When designing a house, please think about saving money in the long term and being practical.
Thanks for your insights! Lowering the TV height and considering underfloor heating are great suggestions for modernizing home design. Having a wood stove for emergencies is a smart idea, and renewable energy options like solar or wind power can definitely save money in the long term. As for house materials, bricks do offer better insulation. I appreciate your practical approach!
