How to Catch More Trout with Dry Flys from a Boat -

  • Dry Fly Fishing from a drifting boat.
In this video we look at leader length, flys and how to work the water to increase your catch rate and catch more trout.
Dry fly fishing is not simply throwing out the drys and leaving them, of course you will get success but you are only ever covering a small proportion of the water.
Most dryfly takes come within the first 10 seconds of the flys hitting the water. Why? Because if the trout are feeding on emerging flys or terestrials they are on the hunt for easy targets and then they see the fly drop onto the water they dont take long to come and take it.
Understanding the trouts feeding habits and mixing your retrieves between static and twitching the drys across the surface can be the difference of a skunk/blank and putting some fish in your net.
Leader length is also really important and in my experience the longer your leader the better especially if you are fishing multiple flys. I recommend 10ft between your drys when fishing from a boat or bank. If you are new to fly fishing and are not confident in fishing multiple flys your better option is to fish 1 day 12-15ft away from your fly line but fish what you are comfortable with.

Very informative, take my hat off to you Mario putting something back into our Sport. Even though the conditions looked perfect it's the fish that will decide. Thats why it's called fishing, not catching. Keep them coming buddy.

Cheers Campbell. That’s what it’s all about. If it helps 1 or 2 more people to catch a few more trout then job done. 👍 cheers for the support very kind 🎣

First half of the afternoon was a bit slow but around 7pm it all started fish up feeding and got some action. Turned a little cold but didn’t put the fish off
