Thanks for having me in the video! I gotta say, there's so much more to this game's lore than I ever thought, unsurprisingly 10 year old me was not able pick up on any of this at the time. Keep up the great work man, I look forward to seeing the rest of this series.
Man, I came here from Jared's video and did not expect Quest 64 to have such a cool lore. Great job with researching and making these videos!
Thank you so much for the kind words, I'm glad you're enjoying these!
THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH!!!!
I finally understand the beautiful lore of Quest 64. This was my first RPG as I played when I was only 11-12 years old. Unfortunately the game did lack better mechanics such as adventures games of the likes of Zelda. For me it's was a game with a tremendous potential.
I grew up in Brazil, and because we didn't have access to as much electronic games as Americans and Japanese people do, whatever we had was considered beautiful. So I really did my best to enjoy it. Unfortunately I didn't speak English at the time, so I didn't understand the lines the characters spoke. What little I understood made me extremely interested.
Anyway, all I can say is thank you for doing justice to the game! It was a game with a great potential, but the makers probably didn't have enough experience at the time since 3D technology with games was in its earliest days.
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and for your thoughtful comment, I'm so happy you enjoyed it!! 😭

For real man! It was the first time I ever seen someone do justice with the beautiful storyline of quest 64. It had so much potential to be a really cool saga (in the likes of Zelda and such).
But for reasons I don’t know, they seem to not know how to further expand the lore of the game. (I don’t know the ‘behind the scenes’ stuff).
But anyway, thank you so much. 😉👍
This game was part of my childhood.
Love it! Incredibly informative without being over-bearing.
I love the world of Celt land! I know quest may not be the best rpg, but it was my first rpg and thanks to the title I was able en enjoy other rpg titles such a pokemon, final fantasy VIII and IX, Xenogears, Chrono Trigger, Golden Sun, etc.
Those are some of my favorite titles as well, you have excellent taste!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch this!!
I think they should’ve at least let you learn a new spell when you received one of the gems.
I agree that would have been nice. Even a flat bonus to the element or anything really. :(
i love the lore analisis of this game, Celtland is rich in lore and stories, thank you very much
It looks pretty interesting. It's a shame that the game doesn't have cutscenes in engine to show some of those events.
I agree, that would have been so cool :'(
shout out to resonant arc
This video told me more about Quest 64 than the instruction manual did lol. More than I've known for like 20 years
Just wanted to let you know that I return to this playlist all the time as a comfort watch, and it even helped me to make the choice to start making gaming videos myself. Hope you’re well!
@@PsydQuest Thank you so much!! I'm gonna check out some of your videos!!!
Honestly, I wanna just take the lore and readjust it for some original; D&D/Pathfinder world.
That is a really freaking good idea
This was an excellent review of the lore. I still have my old Prima strategy guide, and this was accurate
This is really cool. I had a good time with quest 64 as a kid and I'm glad someone managed to talk about this game without just saying how bad it is.
By the way, where did you get the fan art for all the characters and the island of celtland? These are awesome!
A lot of them came from old articles from gaming magazines back in the day as well as manuals or blogs. Some I took directly from the game and into Photoshop to spruce them up and remove backgrounds / add borders and what not. I'm glad you like them, honestly it was a ton of fun to do and hunt them all down!
I really enjoyed this game as a kid. I always loved the big open environments you could explore, and even enjoyed the music. The spells killed it a little for me as they all looked the same for the most part. Otherwise I'm still very nostalgic for Quest 64.
I played through this entire game, I know I talked to many of the people for a good portion of it, but I don't remember ANY of this plot. Granted it was like 20 years ago, and I do remember getting really bored as I played through, but I think that also says something that the dialog and plot lines are so hard to pay attention to as well. I know games I barely played that I probably can recall most the plot in them.
One of the most significant lore dumps happens when you find the ancient wizard who was responsible for the first cataclysm in the desert, but its entirely missable, and so far out of your way that most players will miss it.
So, basically, Lavaar's story is the games' beta story back from Crystal Monsters. It's nice that they hid him in the game. Like captain Blackeye in Banjo-Tooie.
Watching a bit out of order (this was the first I watched, then I started back at P1), but will definitely be going through. Never even got that far, maybe past Solvaring at most, but I remember enjoying it enough.
Wow your voice sounds similar to mine. Quest 64 plays out like an NES game but with 3D graphics, the story pieces together better from the worldbuilding since the game is so straightforward.
Just a dumb thought without any support:
Maybe Shanon was made in the image of a younger Epona whom Mammon observed through the eyes of Lavaar as a weird gesture of both respect and mockery.
I dunno.
@@XellosNi This is one of the best theories I've ever heard
I'm curious; is there anything that outright confirms that Epona founded the Melrode Monastery? Or is that more of a hypothesis?
I can't remember, so I'm going to say it's just a hypothesis. I thought I remembered reading that Epona created the monastery to store the book within its crypts but I dont remember the source. 😓
I remember playing this a few weeks after playing final fantasy 7 at a friends house and I was super disappointed but I love this game now. I think the reason I didn't appreciate this game back then is because I was young and it wasn't flashy like ff7
I don’t get it because I liked this game and everyone I’ve ever played it with says they liked it too so why all the hate?
I remember the hate this game got, but man the lore always drew me in as a kid! There was just enough to let my imagination go off on it’s own. I had a great time playing it as a kid for this reason. :)
I couldn't have put that any better myself. There being just enough to let your imagination go off is such a special piece of playing Quest 64 when you're young. Thank you for watching!!
I can't believe there is a character named Epona in a game historically held against Ocarina of Time...the OTHER game with a character named Epona
I agree, interesting that there is a bridge between the games with just a name with some historical context. Great observation, thanks for watching!
@@LvlJake thanks for putting together such a great video series exploring Quest 64! I've always had a soft spot for this game
I think an issue you're having is you're taking something literally. There's definitely a plot, story and lore When someone says there isn't any, it's a figure of speech. They're saying it's just bog standard and presented in a way that you can only get to if you're willing to explore dozens of rooms and buildings which utterly waste your time (Which you pointed out in earlier videos)
Like you could say something like, "There are these four elemental orbs or items that help balance..."
or
"There are these tall walls that protect the populace from..."
or
"Ancient peoples used to war over a relic which..."
But you're missing the point by doing so. These are extremely cliché, basic and uninteresting as a result. It's all been done before and better. The game doesn't do much with these concepts. They're presented to the player. That's about the extent of it. After watching several of these, I think my instinct was right. You like a bad game. I like this same bad game. But for some reason, the existence of basic, uninteresting story/world-building is enough for you to overlook the flaws when most people recognize it's not enough. Like you said in your intro vid, you're arguing from an emotional bias. You loved it, therefore no one can say it's the worst/ criticize it as bad.
