I came across this video a few months back when shopping for a 9-2x and I gotta say, seeing your level of praise confirmed my decision. Not to mention it says a lot that you actually own one. Three months into ownership of a bone-stock 90k 5MT version, I have no regrets. Thanks!
+Myles Lund - Really glad to hear this was helpful to you! Todd definitely enjoyed his time with the 9-2x. He's since sold it, but they are definitely an overlooked car and a fantastic WRX alternative. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. Enjoy your Saabaru!
@@Fitforacting yep, still have mine and going on 210k miles. If it's an aero, look into an aftermarket uppipe and downpipe and a tune for the downpipe. Wakes the car up even more!
I really hated calling this a Saab. I had a 1982 Saab 900 as my first car, and a 1984 900s as my second. My fourth car (and first new car) was a 2005 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS wagon. The Saab 9-2x models really were bastard children. Great car, misunderstood by the general public, never embraced by Saabaphiles.
February 2021, car shopping and the 9-2x looks pretty good as cheap wheels. The issue is, the Subaru engines have a reputation for being finnicky about maintenance. How can I be sure the car I'm considering has been properly maintained?
I have one of these cars. I like it and fun to drive. Nothing over the top in mods as of yet. I always get made fun of by other Subaru owners whenever i drive it. Its ok. I used to work for General Motors for 20 years and bought one when i left the company. It only has 30,000 miles from 2005.
I really like my Saab 9-2X, which is not an Aero but a 2006 2.5i. It's got Bridgestone summer tires and the 17mm WRX rear swaybar so it handles relatively well. My other car is a 2011 WRX but this is a great daily driver.
my dad had one of these when i was born. one of my first memories was sitting in his lap right after he got off of work, and i specifically remember the dragon-like creature on the steering wheel. too bad he sold it, he loved that car.
I own 3 of these cars (05 4EAT Aero, 06 5MT Aero, 06 4EAT Linear) they are the most timeless chases from the mid 2000's, very fun and capable. Highly Recommend them!
Just picked one of these up, this video certainly contributed to my decision. I'm incredibly lucky, mine is stock and super clean for a 15 year old vehicle.
9-2x driver here, always 2.5i. No I don't regret my choice, its a good commuter car and I like that not to many people know about this car. I used to have a blue one, that saved my life, and now drive a satin gray one.
Had I known about this Saab before I bought my MS3, would've definitely given it a look. Love oddball cars that very few people know about. Great way to showcase this Subaru in Saab clothing!
2006 9-2x non turbo with almost 200k on the odometer, my only problem has been catalyst converter but it’ll be fixed next week along with attaching the apex exhaust I bought for it. I have a plug and play computer chip and thinking about air intake. Rear quarter is a bit banged up but she still drives well...
I had one, and it had leather seats and heated windshield. I think it may have been a part of a cold weather package sold in Canada. Great little car. I miss it.
I have the 2006 wrx wagon version of this and I still have tons of fun. It's just fast enough to beat most other cars on two lane freeway onramps and also great for stuffing all your Costco junk in.
I had an 05 saabaru 92x automatic impreza of the same color inside and out, and had it as a winter car for 2 years ( winter tire equipped) .... snow much fun.
I own one of these little things, and they are the best Cars for a first car! What I like most is that people don't really know what they are. So consequently they don't come with the boy racer prejudice that people see the WRX with. They are a little more subtle, and in that way I think they are a bit cooler.
I own a Saab 92x, and there is an error in this review. You CAN turn of all the dashboard lights. I'm not trying to hate on this video, I am just giving out more information.
Sweden is a dark place... You don´t want bringt dashboard lights in the dark deep woods where the moose waits to jump into your headlight beem. Sun sets at 14:00 and you´ll see it again at 9:00 next day so it is an issue here. Night riders work double shifts :-)
ormand3000 i just watched your video "honolulu night life" so you know boring...you know the one where your eating junk food and showing the world your cankles
Good review video I just bought my 92x yesterday but I have to say I did not find that these saabs were cheaper than the Subarus in Florida I find that they are more expensive and way harder to find. However I did get a pretty good deal on mine I believe at $4,200 mine is a 05 Aero with 148000 miles on it, automatic, fully stock.
Love my Saaburu! Just had mine given some love. New clutch, turbo, reseal, front ball joints and lower arms...but it's soooo fun to drive. Everything is Subaru except a things, mainly cosmetic.
I had the Subaru STI red block very quick motor with quick shift gearbox being superb 4x4 so I can see Subaru in this Saab especially giving it a unique twist but the body kit give it away anyway
These Saabaru, brand new, were cheaper than Impreza/WRX wagon thanks to GM's huge employee discount offered to public in 2005. Something like 7k off MSRP.
These government car scrapping programs sure have destroyed the used car market.. It's sad to see so little choice in the ultra cheap sporty car market When I was looking for my first car I had a bunch of affordable options for under $5k Not so simple anymore, I feel bad for all the kids today looking for something fun for their first car
+Dee Jay Ever heard of Craiglist? There are tons of cheap used cars out there, and I would say with confidence that it is MUCH MUCH easier to find a cool, cheap, used car than in the past...
I think this may be my next car. This Chabaru is a awesome car! I want my Buick LeSaber back from 1997. I loved that 3800 series V6. I currently drive a 2000 Subaru Outback wagon right now. I wanna puck up a WRX wagon from Subaru or get a Saab 9-2X Aero from GM. As long as it has the same cloth seat interior like a Buick and a H4 engine I am happy. I just want the same or a bit more power then the 3800 Series II engine. I think these would get beet less then the Sedans
RE: "Water drops from a water bottle will stain this.." I have a 2011 Subaru Outback with black cloth seats, and I would say that it must be a Subaru thing. The one time I took the seats to get cleaned, they said they couldn't promise anything... because of all the other Subaru seats that also had this same issue.
Great review, I like those short "older cars we are curious about" reviews. Short ratio Steering Rack are the Best! The 12.8:1 Ratio In my 2007 Honda fit Sport makes every other steering rack feel "slow". Of course, it doesn't have the best felling, but with 205/50-16 sports tires it helps. I used to owned 2 e30, a 86 and a 89 ( before the fit, both steering had good feed back but damn, those have looong steering ratio not sporty at all, ( I don't miss those old steering and manual transmission vs My Fit, not at all) So when I bought brand new fit in 2007, and got my hand on that steering it was like "were have you been all this time!". The only thing I have driven that was close was a Mini. The feedback was better in the mini ( strangely the transmission feel more Japanese to me than German in the mini), but I wouldn't exchange my fit for one, because of the reliability and interior space that i use all the time, and Yes road handling is not as good but I still have tons of fun with my small cars. I love small cars, light and nimble and fuel efficiency, I don't speed anyway, Don,t care for speed only for curve!) Funny, I tested drove couple of time the RX8 R3 of a friend, and the streering is WAAAY better, of course that's a hell of a cars to drive,( except for the power to gas drinking ratio ). But as steering ratio is concern, compare to my small honda It , feel long. lol It was kind of weird, complaining that "well the steering feel slow to me". This friend wife own the Mini I was talking about and his winter car is a saab 9-2 ( non turbo), he's fan a Subaru, but like me, he thinks those saabaru cars looked better than the actual Subaru impreza. Despite being non turbo, that a great car. despite its age. It fun to try different car, even "normal ones" .
I’m in the U.K. I drive a 2.0 automatic Saab turbo aero saw this and I want one but unfortunately they are not available hear any tips where to buy one in Europe cheers
Some thoughts almost 10 years later. Yes, it does beg to be thrown around, but it also can die pretty easily if you throw it too hard. Thankfully, engine replacements are so easy that even I could do it.
***** Excellent point. Obviously, we would have preferred to review it with good summer rubber, but this was shot about two months ago when it was still somewhat cold. We hadn't planned to put it on camera then, but we subbed it into a shoot day at the last minute when another car canceled. Thanks for watching and asking.
I think that basing Saabs on Subarus would've been better than basing them off of frumpy Opels would've been an excellent decision. So it's a damned shame that the only time it ever happened, it was the lowest conceivable effort imaginable. Also, it wasn't new to Saab that they needed something in their range that wasn't FWD. They had 4WD prototypes of the original 9000 and apparently the initial idea was that the second generation 900 should be RWD and have an optional V8. They desperately wanted to move away from FWD to increase their prestige and at first GM seemed to want it to. But they constantly pulled the rug out from under Saab.
We have the limited edition version with the special creme champagneish color to match the interior. Our p/s pump needs a new gasket every few years anyone else have this problem?
If either of you could have any sports car, money no object, what would it be? I suppose for Paul it'd be the new Cayman GT4, but I honestly don't know for Todd.
The 92x isn't that common: wrong, because it's the Impreza which is common enough :p And you could even get a non-turbo 92x just like saying the ES250 isn't that common, but it is because the Camry is common And of course, some people might say that the 92x is the best Saab because it isn't really a Saab! (not necessarily my opinion, though)
+eli Friedman - Yes, this is an aero. And they are no more expensive to fix than a WRX, as you can use all the exact same parts. The only thing that can get pricey is body panels as there aren't very many around. Hope that helps.
+eli Friedman - Yes, the base is the 2.5 non-turbo engine, equivalent to the Impreza of the same era. Aero's are the way to go if you can find one. Last time checked they were about 6-10k, but you'll probably have to look nationwide. Good luck!
Same price as a WRX - ha! The ones I have seen for sale are priced somewhere between absurdly overpriced to ridiculously overpriced. That said I know of several people around me who have purchased the SAAB 92-x Aero specifically for club racing so there may be some advantage over the WRX.
Do you guys not have enough cars to review for fast blasts? I'd be happy to bring mine down. I'm in Vegas, so I could go to Utah or SoCal. I promise it's a fun car. :)
Email everydaydrivertv@gmail.com or send us a message on our Facebook page. We also filmed this car because no one else has put one on camera before, at least not to our knowledge. ;)
Xaqtly - We didn't review Todd's car because of a lack of vehicles, but because of a lack of coverage on the 9-2x. We actually have a decent number of Fast Blasts already shot or scheduled. However... we are always looking for interesting cars, thank you for your email!
Yeah I figured, I was mostly joking. I loike Saabs and Subarus anyway, my mom had 3 Saabs, I've owned 8 Subarus, including a 2003 and a 2004 WRX wagon, which is basically what the 9-2X was. Now I have that CTS-V wagon with a stick, so if you're interested... let me know. :)
How hypocritical he hated the New Imprezza and he technically drives one LoL i mean i know a Wrx is technically different from a standard imprezza which i drive but the 2015 which he reviewed is SO much better than this.

Listened to the Podcast and just watched the fast blast.....$300.....and they wonder why they have such a bad reputation....(Car salesman).
Goes from my teacher to jack nikelson
Jim's car, from the office
I mean, Subaru makes some aeronautic products, so I think it sort of fits.
hard to believe this boxer engine is that reliable.
Nobody's gonna comment about whether or not there are two guys doing this video or just one that's gotten a haircut in between takes?
got one a year ago and haven't looked back. trying not to spend all my money on FAST!
I'm first! That means I get to buy the car! Yeah!
So you're trying to get the word out, so you get more from your car? LOL
This is really a Saabaru LOL
How hypocritical he hated the New Imprezza and he technically drives one LoL i mean i know a Wrx is technically different from a standard imprezza which i drive but the 2015 which he reviewed is SO much better than this.
I'll give ya $550... hehe EverydayDriver
I have a Tesla model S but it is nowhere as near as fun as my 2002 WRX manual wagon was.
This is Swedish meatball made up Panko and fish cake.

A little quieter? 100 pounds of sounds deadening probably makes it more than a little quieter
