Last year, Yzerman accidentally put together a halfway decent roster, almost tripped into a playoff berth last year, and it seems to have ruined this fanbase's psyche. We really should've sold players(Kane, Perron, Ghost, Walman, etc. ) last years deadline for draft capital/ higher end developed(close to NHL) prospects and strapped in for another painful 3-5 years. Cause accidently being decent last year might set this team back a couple years unintentionally. I think we'll know what we are truly by 2027.. as in Yzerplan zero hour where we should be perennial playoff contenders or he's gotta be fired. No questions. No blurred lines.
Im there with ya brother, was saying this last season with all these one year over ager deals. SY needed to stop with the FA signing and let the tank roll on, cause there aint no one coming up this pipeline thats gonna be a face of a franchies and now were locked in with JT, Copp and Holl for like 2 to 3 more years
It wasn’t even the roster being decent. They were shooting well above any historical averages while playing, as Lalonde and Yzerman both said, unsustainable, non-playoff hockey. Ownership has taken the wheel, seeing playoff money on the horizon. This really is all the better this team can be. They’ve missed out on elite draft talent every year since Yzerman took the reins. Last season’s scoring seemed so fun and good because they platooned the point production all the way down the roster because they do not have elite talent. This is what they are.
The problem isn't this year. The problem is next year. The problem is Chiarot, Holl, and Gustafsson all coming back next year. The problem is Copp and Compher eating almost 11 million dollars of our salary cap. The probem is Copp wasting space and eating cap until 2027 The problem is Compher wasting space and eating cap until 2028. The problem at the moment is this idiot coach putting Copp, Compher, and Tarasenko as our 2nd line. The problem is starting to look like, and as much as we don't want to admit it...Steve Yzerman. He should have never spent on Perron, Chiarot, Copp, Maata, and Husso when we were going into a generational draft. We should have been drafting top 5 that year not 8th overall.
Steve Yzerman should be fired if they don’t make the playoffs this season. For the Steve-bot defenders I ask you this, name me a job that gets 6 or more years to produce a quality product? It’s year 6 and they have the 5th fewest points in a 32 team league. Accepting where they are this season is a loser mentality.
I don't know that much about cap space, but wouldn't we have better off paying Raymond and Seider over a period of maybe 2 years so that we wouldn't have had to give away other players that could have helped us be a more complete team???
Well, when you have to play the role of #1 defensive defensemen every game, you’re going to regress points wise, especially when you win the Norris by putting up points haha. ASP will win a Norris before Seider
He was never gonna be a perennial Norris candidate and the writers around the team did far too little diligence carrying water for the team and player convincing fans he was Lidstrom Jr. He’s good and that’s great but everyone acted like he was our Hedman because of the Yzerman honeymoon.
@ and that’s at least partially caused by almost every trophy being decided by most points scored. There’s a cottage industry around propping up a rookie player’s through sheltered offensive deployment biased by rookies “still needing to learn defense”, pumping up that player in the press, etc… It’s a kiss of death for expectations around those players’ future.
FIRE YZERMAN! I just watch highlights now, I can't waste valuable time after work to watch this pathetic excuse of a team. Fans in attendance should start getting more vocal and throw trash on the ice.

Sure ,it's about winning games. But the product on the ice is bland and boring. Not any sense of speed or toughness or grit.
At some point, the organization will have to confront not making the playoffs and declare the season a failure. Then what?
@@donallan6396 Stevie´s nepotism is a big problem for the organization since current audience is droping.
I gave up on the Wings in the least few seasons with GM Kenny Holland. I spent years watching the Lightning, the Panthers, and the Bruins. Waiting patiently for a Red Wings team worth watching. Last season I returned to supporting the Wings. This season has been more difficult to watch. I now watch the Pistons, as I have more faith in their future. Time for the Wings to go back to lottery picks. This is the Darkness of Harkness era 2.0. The Yzerplan is a bust.
Way too premature to say Yzerplan is a bust. Give it three years when the young core is playing for the big club, then we can pass judgement. It's not for nothing that Ken Holland proclaimed that rebuilds can take a decade.
@@europason2293 It could also be that you are too protective of Yzerplan!
Ilitch Holdings Inc influence Yzerman & Co is something that is visible in the current audience compared to 5 and 10 years ago. The advantage today is that the team can't get much worse than they already are, so everyone is a winner when it comes to speculating about the future. I'm glad I'm Swedish so I don't have to pay for such a crappy product that the owners and its staff have put together.
At least we have the lions.
I have my other NHL team. Half my family from Florida, been watching the Panthers for 4 years. Lucky me I guess. I wish I enjoyed the Lions, I can’t jump on the bandwagon lol.
Oh cool, half my family’s in Florida too, I was born there. Grew up in Detroit though.
Wings may have dodged a bullet with Trouba
the teams i follow in the NHL is detroit, buffalo and anaheim..........
That feels masochistic
oh...🫥
Yes it’s time to tank, the team looks rudderless and unbothered, they’ve got maybe six or seven players worth a damn, the rest are trash
Need top flite LW help and in a hurry, cannot wait for developing one for 4 years and expect any sort of improvement.
Add to this the Red Wings on average are still a group of slow skaters compared to other teams.
There is nothing in this draft that will save this franchise’s rebuild.
Time to rebuild the rebuild.
I agree the season is not going well and after last season the disappointment is palpable, but when you talk about boring your podcast is right up there with the wings.
Cheers, Jimmie 🙏
@@WingedWheelPodcast Daily Faceoff says everything you say about the Red Wings in about 4 minutes and they only say it once not over and over again like you enjoy the misery. The Griffins could use more of that time.
We need NED HARKNESS! bring him back!
They don't have to Tank Steve Y has build this bad team you knew this would happen he did to improve this defense that suck last yr
whaa?
1:05:15 Hiding behind a business and your role having no ethics built in is what is wrong with a lot of things with the US economy. It is upon management to inject ethics, or they should hear it from the workers and/or customers. The union needs to do something about this at some point, or what is the point in having one?
How many times are we gonna beat our heads against the wall into a mush over draft lottery luck?
I'm tired of waiting.
gru needs to be fired and boughner we bring up watson
What’s it like being Bob’s agent?
0% chance Yzerman resigns debrincat longterm , deal him now get a 1st + .. resign Lyon and take advantage of talbot’s strong play and eat some salary and send him to a cash strapped contender for another 1st. Eat salary off compher while he can still be moved, Deal Kane, tarasenko etc... use those 1sts and assets and go get some young players with huge upside like a zegras(doesn’t have to be him specifically)that can be here longterm
LOL. You're not getting 1sts for any of those players
@@scottritcey5166your not getting a first for debrincat? Sure ... and I never said we’d get a 1st for Kane etc...
Nobody will want Kane.
@@socialmediag5485not getting a first for debrincat, sadly.
And resigning Lyon instead of trading him to Colorado is an interesting call. Re-signing him tells Cossa he’s staying down another season and blockades the other goaltending prospects.
@@workshoptelescope if you say so . Resigning Lyon doesn’t say Cossa stays down another year I said I’d resign him if we dealt talbot for the higher trade return
old team, poor up the middle, defensive system because of a lack of talent. nobody makes big moves in hockey so the real chance has to be to dump for whatever picks you can at the deadline and then don't worry about getting GR more experience. bring up a few of them. you can send some back down after the season for the griffins playoff run. exception being hossa, who I would let marinate in GR this year. give me another crack at the lottery and get ready for next year. IMO. LGRW!
How can it be an embellishment penalty when a penalty is called for cross checking at the same time? I think it should be one or the other not both at the same time
We have to fire lalonde right now. No more wasting time. This is red wings one of the original 6. We don't deserve a mediocre coach like lalonde leading us. We must act now!! Lalonde out!!
We had high, high hope's for this team......very ,very disappointing....
why?
Thats a bit of a you-problem. Last season’s playoff run was a mirage and everyone knew that.
Why did yzerman sign so many players to bad contracts? They should have continued to tank for a few more years. Instead they are a mess.
I gave up watching closely and going to games for this year. Feels worse than the 21-22 season under blashill
What is the purpose of tanking? Just to be last in the league and get passed in the draft lottery by the 8th-worst team?
Team is just lifeless 😢.
The problem isn't this year.
The problem is next year.
The problem is Chiarot, Holl, and Gustafsson all coming back next year.
The problem is Copp and Compher eating almost 11 million dollars of our salary cap.
The probem is Copp wasting space and eating cap until 2027
The problem is Compher wasting space and eating cap until 2028.
Game management is game manipulation
Yzerman needs to resign.
This team is already tanking.
I dont cheer for petry or goofstufsson
Agree the Walman trade was the worst Yzerman move as GM and the worst trade since the Unger trade in 1970.
.
Yea great strategy change coaches and managers every year without any idea what next .
Put it this way...the Islanders are a better team.
I don't know that much about cap space, but wouldn't we have better off paying Raymond and Seider over a period of maybe 2 years so that we wouldn't have had to give away other players that could have helped us be a more complete team???
You mean 2 year contracts?
@@scottritcey5166 No, just paying the huge amounts we signed them too, in different hits to the cap.
Most concerning is Seider is regressing. He was supposed to be in the Norris conversation by now. He's not anywhere close.
I’m getting nervous about him too
Well, when you have to play the role of #1 defensive defensemen every game, you’re going to regress points wise, especially when you win the Norris by putting up points haha.
The Calder is a very misleading trophy. There are so many winners that go on to have good not great careers.
@ and that’s at least partially caused by almost every trophy being decided by most points scored.
There’s a cottage industry around propping up a rookie player’s through sheltered offensive deployment biased by rookies “still needing to learn defense”, pumping up that player in the press, etc…
It’s a kiss of death for expectations around those players’ future.
FIRE YZERMAN! I just watch highlights now, I can't waste valuable time after work to watch this pathetic excuse of a team. Fans in attendance should start getting more vocal and throw trash on the ice.
Fire him when the prospects we have coming up fail . Don’t know how you fire him now Ken Holland left him with nothing in the pipeline and now we have danielson pellikka Cossa Augustine nygard buchelnikov wallinder Lombardi buium all close to showing up. I fire him if most those guys come and are failures, not now
@@socialmediag5485i agree, plus if you look at toledo and GR, they are top in each of their divisions. So the talent is there and upcoming!
@@socialmediag5485I am so sick of this argument. Holland left yzerman with ton of picks. Holland already started the rebuild.
Draper was put in charge of amateur scouting by yzerman. Yzerman fired head of pro scouts and put verbeek and then his brother in charge.
The drafts wouldn’t have changed much.
The only thing he has done well which would have happened anyways was bringing in the Swedish connection in lidstrom and kronwall to help.
Yzerman has done a piss poor job with the cap and this past offseason was a disaster.
I really think people are overvaluing their prospects. The wings still do not have a number one center in the pipeline.
They have no superstar. Time will tell if cossa, pelika, will pay off
@@davidkruse4030 sick of this argument? You mean facts? Who’s still there that holland drafted? Larkin Rasmussen veleno? Ya he helped turn this turd around , thanks Ken
@socialmediag5485 he's right... this is Yzermans roster.. we are a team that's spent to the cap that is currently 29th out of 32 in league standings. This roster is BAD! I'll agree that Steve's nailed his 1st round picks, but I can't trust his team building in the future to fill in those roster gaps around his draft picks.
and in grand rapids.. the solution is there right in front of our eyes.. his name is elmer.
Seider’s point totals are getting worse by each year. This guy might not be a true number one. Hopefully edvinsson or pelika can become that.
None of those are number one d-men under this team’s development and support.
Draft Lottery glory or bust!
Wish it was the 2026 draft
