Hi Anthony - On the XMP files... I suppose DNG raw files do not use sidecar files but store the edits in its own metadata, correct? Does that mean an edited DNG file will be correctly read with the edits anywhere? Thanks

Anthony, LR Classic CC stick syncing 1800 images since I recently upgraded to macOS Big Sur. I use the newest versions. Googling I see that problems with syncing regularly occur. Is this settings-related? What might I/we do to fix it?

Thanks for the info. Most video's don't cover the "boring" details of LR or PS, but all this info is extremely valuable in tweaking the performance/behaviour of LR/PS.

Good informative video. You showed that you cannot reorder files in the previous import catalog but you did not show what to do in order to be able to reorder the files in the filmstrip. Some of my third-party apps return their edited files to the filmstrip out of order. They are generally at either the beginning or end but not with the original files on the filmstrip. This is a huge pain and workflow drain.

Very helpful Anthony. I’d like a tutorial on setting up files for sending to online print houses , Instagram and maybe Getty images.

Hello. "Ignore clicks on badges" was unchecked by default on both my PCs, however clicking the badges still does stuff on both machines. Changing the setting back and forth doesn't change the behavior. Unchecking "Show badges" does remove them so that part is working. Any ideas what could be going on? LrC v10.0 Thanks.

Do you need XMP files if you, on import, convert your raw files to dng?

    • @charleshaacker9568
      @charleshaacker9568 4 года назад

I have the same question as I have converted all raw files to DNG from the very first.

In that case the xmp information is embedded into the DNG.

2:50 It would be impossible to go to the folder where LR imports to if you have multiple days on your card and your import structure is like this 2020/11/10-Tuesday. You can't have LR go to two folders at the same time, that is why this option is shown - to go to the last imported images.

I don’t like auto launching of Topaz Denoise as plug in after Export. I tried to decouple so it does not auto launch but keep auto launch. what am I doing wrong?

Hi Anthony, Please include in your teaching title whether it is LIGHTROOM CLASIC or LIGHTROOM CC 2 separate versions and photo editing tools !! Also, you are little misguided on the import folder. You have to import to the default folder, LR is the folder. If you do it correctly you can all that you want to do. I have been with LR since LR3 in 2008.

The “Previous Import” is not a catalog, Anthony; it is a “Smart Collection” which is essentially a table in the Lightroom database otherwise known as a catalog. This particular table is not customizable for the simple fact it is transitory as it is refilled with new records; i.e., images, from the next import, and the one after that, ad infinitum.

I tried Topaz Sharpen yesterday and it still takes to long to process, I have a brand new laptop so I still use selective sharpening in Photoshop!

If your laptop has a GPU (graphics processor), you can speed up Topaz Sharpen by going to File > Preferences > Calibrate. This might speed up the processing speed of Topaz.

Wait a second! Adobe Lightroom does not import any images into a “folder.” Lightroom imports images from a “folder” and adds their metadata into the database; i.e., the Lightroom catalog. The metadata is written to the catalog and is some aspects, into .xml files or the image files themselves, and by definition, into the folder where the original image file resides.
I should add that I never, ever allow Lightroom to move images from anywhere to anywhere, it simply sucks at it. Adobe, in their infinite stupidity, bypassed the inherent file protections in the operating systems and gave Lightroom the ability to bypass the sms messaging both Windows and Mac OS use to ensure file transfer integrity. The result is that if LrC hangs or crashes, any files which were removed from the source folder but were not written to the destination will be lost forever (unless you had a duplicate memory card).
    Absolutely fucking criminally stupid.
I use the OS to copy images from the memory cards to a backed up RAID array, and then allow LrC to import without moving the images into the catalog. Never, ever allow Lightroom to move images. Better to move using the OS and have Lightroom “find” the images afterwards.
