I remember when we recorded this in the studios. It was a lot of work but it turned out great in spite of some behind the scene problems. It brings back memories to watch them again!
crowman, me, too!!! i was born and raised in Texas, grew up 20 miles south of Austin in Kyle...i've loved Jerry Jeff for years! you just can't get much better than him...he sings "real purty" for a New York native!!!
I 1st heard Viva Teralunga in 74" in my dad's car. Then we moved to Texas late 75, and up against was a big tune, along with Blue Eyes, the smokey & the bandit theme, (East Bound And Down), Luckenbach Texas, etc. I read Jerry's book a few yrs ago, and he is a good man! Peace to all of the good American's out there! It is Christmas Eve, 2009, 11:11 PM Just enjoying a buzz, and thinking about my life so far. Another decade is upon us, let's make it a god one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yup..Austin sure makes musicians feel at home, that's why it's the live music capital of the world...kinda funny who ya might see lurking at the Saxon Pub.... Jerry Jeff is one of a kind...and thanks Susan for keeping him healthy,,and happy.. My best
Great clip, great performance !! Is good ole Jerry Jeff an Immortal or what !! He's been around for so damn long, with so much god-given musical talent, and he's produced such consistently high-quality product over some .. what is it .. 5 decades !! Wow .. and all that hard livin, and he's still goin' on & on. What can you say !! P.S. I read recently that too much hard drinkin kills you early .. I'm that scared that I'll now give up .. readin, that is !!
Yep, Austin is great....but this was taped at the studio on the campus of Central Texas College in Killeen. I was there in the audience. It was awesome!
I live In Oklahoma but have seen JJW many times int he 70's Here and inTX... Always was an outdoor music fest with many more greats such as Michael Martin murphy, David Allen Coe... etc ..Too many to cite but JJW has always been my Fav. Think about all the songs he has wrote for others.
Great to see Jerry Jeff in rave-up mode. But he is also a master of the intimate mode-maybe my favorites in this vein include his version of Jessie Winchester's Mississippi You're On My Mind on his Ridin High album and Derby Day from his double album "A Man Must Carry On". But hard to single out gems from a jewel box.
Who was it that called John Inmon the Master Guitar Player of the World? Butch Hancock? Ray Wiley Hubbard? Whoever it was, they were correct. I met him once at Ray's, and we briefly talked Teles. Saw Jerry Jeff a couple of times, once at Ray's where he was playing a synth trying to get that Chariots of Fire sound.
I had a question: this was from '84 but I thought that John Inman didn't start playing until he was 16, which was in 1986. Does anyone know this guitar player to JJW's left? Or is there another guitarist named John Inman?
This is John Inmon, not Inman. Great guitarist, he was a member of the lost gonzo band and played with JJW since the early 70s. He played with many others in the "progressive country" scene, Townes van Zandt, Michael Martin Murphy...
God bless Jeff. R.I.P. Thanks for sharing your music...

Bambi Vogele Bambi, I saw Jerry Jeff in Detroit when he opened for Tom Waits. 73?? Anyway he and the band rocked this song. Been a fan ever since.
Jerry Jeff Walker is a unique treasure. No one else like him and never will be.

If you ever get a chance to see Jerry Jeff when he is in concert all by himself, jump on it. It is an awesome show. He is great with his band too.

you go into Lukenbauch and ask at the general store any cowbow with a guitar to sing little bird around the campfire and voila!
Come on dwightrussell, the"sons of b**ches" line is the best in the song. Sets the whole mood, the whole POed attitude
Good ol' Jackie Jack

@@xo9442 Thanks!
John Inman. He's played off and on with JJ for a long time.
He couldn't carry Jerry's guitar case.
Like Jerry Jeff but Guy Clark wrote it and sings it better.
Could have used a little less guitar and more vocal! Great song however but not written by JJ.
negatives:4.............sons of bitches have always bored me
