This girl classmate of mine and I used to be the best players of this game back in the day in our neighborhood. Game was at a liquor store on our way to school and if either one of us was playing, we knew the other wasn't playing for a while. Hope life is treating you well Amy Mendoza.
When you made it to the higher levels on this game in the arcade - it was really pushing the limits of what the chip could do. So many animals to animate, you began to sense the refresh rate skipping frames to cope.
Loved the music and sounds of this so much. Good to see it wasn't my memory just thinking that this was an instantly-hard difficulty game after a certain level. And disappearing platforms... that's just WRONG.
My best game. Just burns me watching him play, one that it's set on invincible, and his technique. I dropped 9M on this once, most owed to a 4M point jump. But my best game was 6M where my highest jump was 250K. Start of a round, juke right about an inch, then move left, counterclockwise, that juke should bounce the first animal, and then you can get all the escaped animals moving the same direction. Way easier to jump when they are moving toward you. But that getting a free guy round, that's like being a tireman in a NASCAR crew. EVERYTHING has to go right, or it will go sideways.
My favorite arcade game of all time, really could of used that no die cheat back when it cost me a quarter to play a game lol. You also frustrated the hell out of me not setting up taking the massive point jumps. Good job.
We used to play this game so much at college back in 1983-4, at Penn State, that my dorm mates and I referred to quarters as "zookeepers". My wrist used to hurt from playing it so much..... although, come to think of it, maybe my wrist hurt for another reason. :-)
You can actually rack up a great score on this game by staying on the coconut board and just jumping on the platform left to right. There is no timer so you can rack up the points before finishing the level.

there is a compilation game called 'Taito Legends', for original xbox, ps2 or PC on cd rom. that compilation has zoo keeper on it, and is more or less the only way to play it nowadays, unless you get lucky and find a zoo keeper cabinet in your city!!
As a current zookeeper, I must say this is one of the most realistic games I have come across that deal with my profession. All day the animals were trying to escape. The more fucking bricks we laid, the faster they took them down. I wish some days I just had a shotgun to deal with these beasts.
no damage in this game..you hit a animal..you die..you fall off ledge...you die..he was using something because he was just running thru them like nothing

Uhhh... I dont think its a good idea to drop some persons full name on the internet like that.
This game has some of the most unique, bizarre and funniest sound effects I've ever heard in an arcade game.
Yup
Sorcerer's Apprentice!!

This is the best sounding game I have heard in ages!
One of my favorites when I was a kid! Kind of hard to find in arcades at the time, but it was worth it when you did!

The sound of building the bricks is so satisfying in this game!
Despite the 1982 copyright, Zoo Keeper actually came out in May 1983 due to programming delays.
0:54 It makes some hilarious sounds!
I haven't seen this in ages and the noise from the lions motivated me to keep movin back then
Maan I loved this game it’s so simple yet challenging
Wow. I haven't seen this game in 30 years.
it's frickin loud
i love it

True but it gets harder as you linger
John Morgan, one of the game's designers, later went on to create Super Off-Road.
I TOTALLY love Zoo Keeper!

I wonder if some DJ would scratch up these arcade sound effects to make it more original for of hybrid of a turntable and arcade style-machine
Zoo Keeper: the game where IMMUREMENT is used to keep animals at bay.
Looks like some weird hybrid of Donkey Kong and Robotron.
Loved this game when I was 7

I'll take "Games that would make PETA go apeshit" for $500 please, Alex.
