SHE IS AWESOME! I think she and I are the same age and though I have owned a small flock of sheep for about 10 years, mostly for the milk (I make soap) and keeping half of an acre of my property weed-free. Just started using their fleece to use on my soaps and a friend is knitting me a shawl who lives in Poland, I'm in Sweden. I think I'm hooked on this shit.

Something I noticed about your shearing technique is that you stay very careful and basically gentle with them, the sheep isn’t fighting you as hard as some videos I’ve seen. Quality over quantity is nice to see!

I'm a spinner. When I was stationed in England, I was given the chance to shear a sheep. I respect them greatly- one sheep had me sore for days. They didn't use a frame- they held them with their knees. I watched a shearer from Mexico who tied their feet, flipping them over.

I am a knitter and spinner and I'm going to tackle dying next. I LOVE natural fiber. I hope to keep sheep someday. But I don't think I'll ever be a master of one trade, I get too bored, I have to do everything! Beekeeping, pottery, spinning, singing, horse riding, painting 🤷‍♀️. Guess that wouldn't work for everyone, but I soak up knowledge like a sponge and can accomplish things with it pretty quickly. I get good at things quickly. I haven't chosen to stick with one thing, but maybe that will change someday.

So, I never had barber pole and my sheep were on grass most of the year. Never had bloat, I rotated the grazing. My sheep were wormed rarely- they did not need it.The flock all lived to be to the late teens - Finn. She knows her stuff, but I think there is more than one way to shepherd.. And Maine is not California.
