- Raj Kumar is a painter by trade, but unable to earn a living, and unable to pay rent to his kind-hearted but foul-mouthed landlady, Mrs. D'sa. One day unfortunately, she suddenly passes away. The police conduct a post-mortem, and as a result, find out that Mrs. D'sa was poisoned. Raj is taken in for questioning, and is subsequently arrested and imprisoned. But has he killed her?

What a fabulous actor Raj kapoor was..
This movie was released when I was still in primary school. Though the songs were very popular at that time itself and were familiar, I had no opportunity to see the movie itself. Thanks to RUclips, after sixty one years, I have seen this movie. It is a film made in good taste. But, from today's perspective, it seems rather quaint, and rather slow paced. The theme is still not outdated. Some producer can still produce a modern version of Anari.

Wonderful movie !. Powerful performances from all the actors, especially from Lalita Pawar, who won the best supporting actress award for 'Anari'. Hrishikesh Mukherjee's direction was superlative and all of the songs by Shankar Jaikishan are popular even today.

I saw this movie so many times but each and every time I feel "aaj hi ye release huwi hai.."

Well....now understood why Raj Kapoor is hailed that high. Hrishikesh Mukherjee what a filmmaker, this movie is still so relevant in 2022. The flu, the waves, the world, the cunning, the simple, all the same. A few scenes of Lalita Pawar made me teary too.
Please release this movie in theatre I want to watch this masterpiece on the big screen.......this is not business definitely not business, this is only art , each and everything is just beyond fantastic 😍
