Hey Crystal, I saw that promotion and was tempted, because I thought I'd get enough color variation for an hombre look. I have so much yarn I decided to not get it and because of your honest review, I'm glad I didn't get any. Thank you, we appreciate you, more than you know! And yes, a tutorial for the hat you are wearing would be great! Thank you!!
Heads Up my friend! All JoAnn's are closing!!! Nice large yarn collection! Love your channel. Videos. Ty! My Great Grandma taught me to crochet when I was 11. I'm now 64 1/2!! Absolutely adore crocheting! Ty for all you do for us crochet-er's! (AKA- Hookers) ☺️🥰💜🙏😇🛕🧶🧶🧶
We appreciate your honesty. You've never steered us wrong. I know we can make up our own minds, but those of us on limited incomes appreciate you review. Thanks Crystal.
I was admitted earlier today to the hospital I caught RSV at the age of 53(on Dec09-2022) I literally caught a kids virus. Enjoying your video making the hospital stay a bit better hugs
I appreciate your honesty very much, you shouldn't apologize for sharing your opinion. You're right about how they can't all be winners.. that's just how it goes. Being honest when it's not a winner, I think gives the winners all the more value.
Whenever I hear great yarn for charities I always think of scratchy yarn. You’re right. I’m not giving something to charity that I wouldn’t like. Good video 😊❤
As someone who uses donated yarn to make hats for charity, I thank you! You would be stunned and probably made slightly ill by some of the yarn I have been given over the last twenty-five years! I have received yarn doused in urine from various mammals; ditto fecal material; blood; paint and even gasoline! People honestly think such yarn can be cleaned or used as is! After all, they say, it's only for the poor and they shouldn't care. Grrr! That riles me so much! I can honestly say, after making over fifty thousand hats in twenty-five years that I have not made a hat or blanket that I wouldn't use or wear myself! Thank you for recognizing that just because a person is poor doesn't mean they should be made to wear an uncomfortable or downright ugly hat, scarf or whatever I might make for them. I hope you enjoy your crochet adventures and that your hands make many beautiful creations! Thanks for being so kind and allowing me to vent! Becca
@@ittybittykittymama7582 Thanks for your great reply. You made my day. We are all God’s children. I make a lot of baby items. We all want nice cute stuff for our babies no matter the situation. Best wishes to you. 😄
Thank you! I cringe every time someone decides they'll use a yarn they don't like, they think is ugly, or it's not soft for charity projects. Why should the people who need it the most have something ugly and scratchy to wear or use?
@@ittybittykittymama7582 I work for a charity and people donate the same sorts of clothing. We've gotten blankets that are dirty and full of holes, dirty socks, yellow white shirts, even soiled underwear! It's amazing what people think is okay to donate. Long expired food is another thing. It's like they feel better donating it than throwing it out but we have to not only throw it out, but we end up touching some pretty foul stuff.
Bless you , You should be a Yarn Embassador , that expression on your face talking about yarn burn says it all , Love your videos tutorials an yarn shopping videos :)
Well durn! I have four packs of six each of that yarn on the way. I got three blues and one purple. I read that description the same as you did......more yarn, more colors. I was sure I'd get at least two of each blue. Well....sounds like disappointment in the colors and disappointment in the yarn on the way. I'll update once I receive it, but now I'm going to research how to return it!!! Thank you for your honest review, Crystal!
I make about 100 hats a year that I donate to a local Social Services. My thought has always been "they are already going through rough times, they don't need a rough hat". I think before Lion Brand had put anything suggesting that yarn be used for charity they should have asked themselves if they'd like to wear something made out of it.
Crystal, thank you for your honesty & clarity of the yarn features which in this instance allows me in stepping away from purchasing! Thank you!!! Cheers, Sheila
You're way more generous than I would be. I would send the entire lot back for so many reasons. I'm sorry they seem to be going downhill. I can't imagine they are suffering because of the last 3 years of nonsense because I and several of my friends are crocheting more now than we have in 10 years. Thank you for your honest review. Yes on the hat tutorial please. :)
I would have jumped to the same conclusion as you, I even thought if your lucky you'd get a navy in with it. Until you showed what you received. Gutted and thanks for the heads up. Id choose yellow but not now xxx
I am a senior on a very fixed income so I appreciate your honesty and your reviews. Your reviews help me to narrow down my choices. Thank you once again.
Thank you so much for your honesty Crystal. It sure helps us. Especially people like me who have a very limited small yarn budget. I don't need to buy yarn that I'll never use. I always appreciate your views and reviews. Thank you❤️❤️
Oh am I glad I passed on that offer! I’ve been burned with mystery bags from just about every company. My last Lion Brand mystery bag was great so I was tempted with this one. Whew looks like I made the right decision.
I would love a crochet hat to mirror the beanie you're wearing! It's so cute and I love the texture. Well worth adding to your list of future projects.
Love the hat. I thought the same thing you thought. I watched Lion Brand video and that is exactly what I thought. They showed 3 shades in each color and said the more you buy the better chance you have to get different colors. I decided not to purchase because I was afraid I would get all the same color.
The expression on your face. It's obvious you want there to be something good you can say about this yarn. Thank you for your *honest* reviews. They are so appreciated.
Thank you for sharing. I ordered some but it won't arrive for awhile. I kind of thought it would work out the way you said it did.But I think it will work out because I am not using it for wearables.
Crystal, as always, your honest review has saved many of us,your BOD family, from a major disappointment! Very much appreciated...and yes, a tutorial for your hat would be lovely. 💞
A tutorial for the hat you are wearing would be wonderful! Remember, you offered! Thank you! I think this is the first truly negative review i've ever seen you give! Glad to see your honesty. Thank you for letting us know, now i don't have to do waste my time and money on this yarn. I love that you said hard things kindly. Nicely done.
My mom knit me a sweater with baby blanket wool - it is the coziest, warmest, softest, sweater I have ever had. My mom has knitted me a lot of beautiful sweater's in my 62 years, some I still have from way back, but the baby blanket wool one is the best. I really recommend trying that for anyone with a loved one that is always damp, chilled, or just plain cold, it's like a hug from a loved one when I have it on.
I am really happy you are doing this review. I was eyeballing this yarn and wondering about it for sure! If this yarn is not as soft as Red Heart or Main Stay, Plus, No savings, then I am truly thankful I did not get this yarn. Especially if it is giving you a finger burn. I truly can not thank you enough for all your hard work and helping others making decisions and saving money along the way for sure! No, No, you did not get a bad batch, it is what it is and AGAIN, I am so thankful you are doing what you are doing. Thanks Crystal for all you do. Sending you much love~~ Sindy.
Thank you for your honesty. You are very contentious about giving us both the pros and cons, allowing us to make informed decisions. And even when you do not feel favorable toward a yarn, I have not seen you be uncharitable. Most appreciated!
Thanks for your honest negative review, Crystal. That makes your positive reviews count even more! We appreciate you testing the yarns for us! With love from BanDana Gramma ♥
Mine were the same as well. 6 each of the same colors for all varieties. They could have at least had each 3 pack be different. My order was 6 grey/ 6 purple premium and 6 grey/ 6 yellow select. Order showed today with no shipping notice. The premium yarn has a strong unpleasant chemical order, despite the bag being ripped, letting it air out during shipping. This was a dud of a promotion
Love your honestly! Love the hat too...I bet you could make one just like it if you didn't already have so many! I'm currently working on a legging pattern of yours, it's the one with the mini shells...it's lacy-looking!
Thanks for the review. I was looking at the same yarn yesterday & thought the same thing you did. Different shades of one color. Won’t be ordering any. Wonder how many others got duped.
I agree with you, I thought the same you that it meant different shades of one colour I use scratchy cheap yarn for blankets for the doggo's and kitty's of our local rescue, as I am sure they will love getting their itch scratched!
When I received the email about this yarn I read and interpreted the description the same way you did. Glad I didn’t purchase it. I would have been disappointed. Thank you for your review. Take care 💜
Hey Crystal, I took it the same way you did and they really need to change their wording here! Thank you for your honest review! I am so happy you do this for us! A tutorial for that hat would be awesome ❤😊
Make a rug with the yarn and do a mesh cotton on the bottom . That is what I did before with some scratchy acrylic yarn . I have some rug yarn , that I got at goodwill and plan on doing the same thing . Love and Hugs .
I too would have thought that meant various shades of the same color. I can't imagine what they did mean. I just got an order from Mary Maxim of their BonBon Ince yarn (a light #4) and is it ever soft. Works like a charm in my Sentro. The best part is there's a lot of colors and it's $1.99 per skein. Great value
I grabbed this offer. I am waiting on 2 from each color family. I couldn't get green though. It was my first budget online purchase so 2 balls of each isn't terrible
Soooo glad I didn't buy any! I was very tempted at 3 for $6 and yes, I thought the same about the color variety. I would have been very disappointed. I just bought some Mainstay yarn because of your previous recommendation and I love it! And I definitely would love to see you do a version of that hat! Thank you for the video! I can honestly say I watch them all and watch for them every day. 💕
Mainstays has improved! I love it now. I used it a lot when they first came back into my citys WalMarts and they were soft but the yarn was literally flat like lenguini. No amount of airing it out or playing with made it puff back up into a cylindrical shape. I personally like it better than big twist and red heart. I wish they had more color options. I think we still only have 6 or 7 colors in my city.
I saw the ad and was about to order some but decided to wait. Sooo glad I waited and a big thank you for this review. I to was under the impression that it would be a varied hues in the color you picked. I really wish they would have a softness rating on yarn. Thank you again for your reviews. Happy Thanksgiving
I like the hat and I would make it if you crocheted one just like it. 💜 I'm surprised it's not soft, usually yarn from Turkey is really good. I'm glad you're telling us - I can't do "scratchy" 😬 It is a pretty color but I won't be buying any. Maybe better for non wearable projects like a curtain for a door.
I love watching your yarn reviews. You keep it honest and real. I would love you to make a copy of the hat you’re wearing. I would definitely make it ❤🧶
Honestly, I've not been a fan of lion brand for a while. Red heart is a stiffer yarn in my opinion. And you're right, I think everyone has tried it. It's a good comparison yarn. Thanks for your honesty, we appreciate you.
Love your comment about Red Heart Super Saver. I've purchased it a few times in a pinch, but then never finished that project because I can't stand the way it feels in my hands while working with it. Thank you for all of your tutorials and reviews of so many different brands of yarn.
Here's a tip from the Hat Angel. To avoid finger burn, I wear a flexible fabric bandaid around my forefinger where the yarn passes over it. (I actually have a permanent dent at that place on my finger! I've tried the plastic and rubber finger protectors, metal yarn guides and even leather finger thimbles, but nothing beats my good friends, the fabric bandaids. They're cheap, especially if bought at Dollar Tree, and one lasts a day or two, depending on how often you wash your hands. I depend on these so much, I keep a few in my notions bag in my big pink fabric yarn barrel (which I got for $2.10 at A. C. Moore's closing sale). That was so much fun! I miss them, though.
Personally, if a yarn is burning my skin, I just stop working with it, and don't bother making anything with it for myself or anyone. I don't bother with the bandaids or fancy "finger protectors" As Crystal said, if she wouldn't wear it, or it bothers her skin, she wouldn't wanna gift it to someone or a charity even, lol I 100% agree with her.
I saw that stuff the other day and was considering getting some. I decided against it, "thinking maybe on payday", but I doubt I'll get any after watching this review. Thank you so much, Crystal. Oh, and BTW, I tutorial for a similar hat would be awesome.
Thanks for the review. I almost bought some because I interpreted the advertisement the same way you did. Then my gut said the price was too good to be true. Now I have no regrets saving my money for better yarn sales.
Thank you for your honesty. I'm sorry if it was me I would be getting a hold of them and tell them how disappointed I was with my last order but thank them anyway

I don't bother with the bandaids or fancy "finger protectors"
As Crystal said, if she wouldn't wear it, or it bothers her skin, she wouldn't wanna gift it to someone or a charity even, lol I 100% agree with her.
@@jessywest6206 maybe it can be used to make pet toys, or those little amigurumi things that are more for display.
@@katdunn7934 ooh i didnt think of that !!! Cat toys would be an awesome idea!! You could even put some catnip in there! Thats a good idea!
@@jessywest6206 I make toys for my cats and recently a Santa hat. It's so fun. But definitely, that harsh yarn is worth something after all. Lol. 😸
I would have been so disappointed. Thanks Very much Crystal for sharing your honest opinion. As usual.
I saw that stuff the other day and was considering getting some. I decided against it, "thinking maybe on payday", but I doubt I'll get any after watching this review. Thank you so much, Crystal. Oh, and BTW, I tutorial for a similar hat would be awesome.
Oh..I will take your word on this one. RH super saver burns my "delicate" skin 😉😘
Thank you for calling them out on this. I love your honesty. Crochet a doggy bed/blanket for your pets. They will love to use it as a back scratcher!
Thanks for your review on this yarn and your honesty. Also I love your hat. Thanks again Chrystal.
