    Most of the Christians I know with my level of scientific knowledge and understanding of paleontology, archaeology, anthropology, biology, and astronomy are old earth creationists. I am a young earth creationist, and I don't see the need to confirm the Bible to a secular worldview when there are many possible explanations that allow one to interpret the scientific observations into a biblical worldview.
    I sometimes also call myself a six day creationist explaining that I don't know the scientific processes that occurred in those six days, but it makes God deceptive to the people who heard him utter the words, "for in six days the Lord made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them," if he didn't do it. When Moses spoke that to the Israelites he specifically connected it to their literal work week for the Sabbath, so it's absurd to suggest that the Israelites thought he meant, "for in six arbitrary periods of time."
    I also explain to others that while creationists have different possible explanations, there could be other explanations, and that these are simply the best possible explanations we have that fit with the biblical story. I find people are more open to the possibility of a younger earth when you explain to them that God can create a star and its light, so we don't need to wait 14 billion years, and also most creationists have no problem with God being able to create a star like the sun from nothing, so why should they have a problem with the rest of the universe? The implications of time dilation, the curse of the world after Adam and Eve sinned, Noah's flood, and other things can all be plausible explanations for the observable evidence.

      @@guineapigsith699 That and similar explanations revolving around plate tectonics with the flood make a lot of sense. I don't like to push any one hyoothesis as true, but certainly the Flood as the catalyst makes a lot of sense. It's certainly a much better explanation for the sudden loss of the dinosaurs, the rapid fossilization of them, and the apparent flooding of dinosaurs worldwide than the asteroid theory. The fundamental flaw with the asteroid theory is everything but the dinosaurs being more or less unaffected. If there was an asteroid impact as destructive as they believe, then everything from plants and trees to reptiles should have been wiped out, but that's not at all what they claim.

    • @dross4207

    • @litigioussociety4249
      @litigioussociety4249 Год назад

      @@speciesspeciate6429 It depends on what is meant by "young earth." For example, there is the time dilation theory that says the mass of the universe crested on day 4 would actually have caused 14 billion years to be experienced by the universe in the time they earth experienced one day. Other similar theories posit that eons of erosion, decay, formation etc. could have occurred in minutes by an omnipotent creator. For example, the idea of a powerful person being able to cause an acorn to grow into an oak tree in a moment would be able to make the oak tree still grow rings like normal.
      There is also the matter of last thursdayism. Most people assume when God created something like the sun, it was like the sun we see now, not a nebula of gas that had to form into the sun, or a much younger sun that had a higher hydrogen to helium ratio that would have to wait billions of years to be aged to where it is now. Likewise, the moon being made at its approximate current distance, which works out perfect for total solar eclipses and annulars.
      The point is there are several ways of explaining the different ages assigned to things by secular science.

      Are you thinking that we believe one single cell gave rise to one life form, then it gave rise to another different life form, and then another?

    I fully agree with Ken Ham. I used to think the global flood was only rising water, but that never explained why other boats did not survive. The flood was violent in ways that reshaped the planet. Anthracite coal is made from buried forests, if that process occurred gradually the trees would have decayed as happens with all organic matter that is exposed to oxygen.

That's why I believe in the global flood - since I was a child.
      "For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.' Matthew 24:38-39

      If a flood caused coal deposits, why aren’t they only an inch or two thick, which is what would happen if a flood killed a forest. It’s because they formed over millions of years of of plants dying and adding matter by shedding leaves and continually adding more matter to the deposits.

In their debate, Bill Nye brought up the point that all fossils would be jumbled up in a flood and that is not what we see. For some strange reason we only find stegasaurus in late Jurassic deposits and Quetzalcoatl in Late Cretaceous.

      @@dross4207 He was quoting God's word, and God's word also tells us that faith is a gift of God. I believe what he quoted is to be understood as in, doing something in faith vrs. against one's conscience ( as spoken about by Paul in writings about the "weaker brother" ) &/OR in one's flesh/for self, not God ( all our righteousness is as filthy rags). As for what you're saying, how do u know ? I'm guessing you have in mind the times people end up believing in untrue things, due to faith vrs. evidence, facts, truth. But even a stopped clock tells the correct time twice a day. One can not know all of the evidence, facts and truth AND, for other reasons end up at the truth. I can passionately believe that my family member is innocent of the criminal charges against them, based on my faith in them, and end up being justified OR not. In the case of God, Abraham believed God and it was credited to him for righteousness" . Wether or not God existed wasn't the issue, that was obvious to Abraham. It was whether or not God was trustworthy and infallible. We, wether we know it or not, have only the same issue. The position you're coming from, I'm guessing, is the from the idea that we're all justifiably beginning at the question of a Creator even existing and the Bible being His word/true. Abraham wasn't raised on all of the ignorance and lies of today, and in his willingness to love and serve his Creator, had grown into an undeniable personal relationship with Him, so, he didn't have that hang-up. We needn't have it either, so, it's no excuse. I mean, we can't help it if we were raised ignorant of all of the facts and evidence and reasonableness - above any other conclusion and belief- for knowing we have a Creator and the Bible is His trustworthy word to us, but that doesn't make it not true and most of us can find that out sooner than later, if we were only willing to. So, thus, we really are, whether we know it or not, all in the same position as Abraham. Down to the choice of our free will, to choose to trust God, or not. The same issue presented to Adam and Eve, even in their innocence and perfection, & in a perfect environment. The fact we have a free will and must use it. Unlike Adam and Eve, we have started out corrupt and Spiritually dead and with even more lies of Satan. But God is there to help anyone who's "willing to receive the love of the truth" & willing to repent from serving self, and turn to Him in surrender. That is choosing faith, which He gives to all who are willing to surrender to their Creator. To choose rightful submission to His rightful authority. To be willing to, if indeed He does exist and is good, and are willing to be shown that He is, it indeed He is. Those who grasp that that is only right, that anything else is wicked, arrogant treason. Many people the world over, throughout history, have come to the gist of this understanding, without knowing all of the rest, and have been blessed in their willingness to repent from self-worship and serve God instead, without even having the Bible in their possession or all of the evidence for it or any of the learned, scientific discoveries and information proving the Bible true again and again.
      They weren't blinded by pride and puffed up by man's knowledge, so were able to hear the still, small voice of God speaking to their spirits. Yes, one can fall for a false god, too. God is able, however, to provide for and protect all who want truth, want Him. Either keep them from it in the 1st place, or send someone with the Bible etc. to provide for them the lacking knowledge to weed out the false doctrines, the false teachers, the deceiving spirits. God is faithful ! We can snd should trust Him, because He IS trust-WORTHY. Trust Him and see, it's the only way to KNOW.

    I admire Kirk's body of work in spreading the gospel, but am a bit disturbed that he has given Ken Ham a forum to express his personal interpretation of the Bible through his geology of the Grand Canyon hubris without challenge. The "flood geology" used to advance the young earth interpretation focuses on river beds, deltas, coral reefs and other areas that most secular geologists agree are only tens of thousands of years old, but abundant proof exists of a much older earth. Ken speaks eloquently; however, he and his young earth acolytes claim that both Biblical literalism (interpret literally where possible) and science prove their interpretation of Genesis. But, when pressed to the point where the supposed science doesn’t support their hermeneutic, they default to 2 Peter 3 and claim a prophetic vision that Peter had of the "coming of evolutionist theory through uniformitarianism." They then create division within the church by labeling devout Christians who believe in an older earth as "uniformitarianists", and attack their fellow believers by accusing them of siding with evolutionist atheists. In doing so, they blur the the message of salvation in Jesus Christ by tying it to their interpretation of Genesis and they manufacture a straw man war between Biblical literalists and "atheistic" science (If you're not with us, you're against us.). Because Ken's young earth hermeneutic requires distilling the entire Bible through the crucible of Genesis 1, the young earth position is strung together as though attempting to work a crossword puzzle when the first word chosen is wrong. In defending a 6,000 year old earth, Ken expects we should “strain out a gnat and swallow a camel.”

In Genesis 1, it says that all the waters were "gathered in one place and dry land appeared." To me that signifies that all the water was in one place and a giant mass of land appeared - Pangea. And I believe that all the continents we have now were created from this mass of land....by way of the flood. The flood is a result of God separating all the continents. When it says in Genesis 7, it says that "all the fountains of the great deep burst open." Perhaps when God separated the continents, the water of the deep burst open between them, eventually becoming the seas and the oceans that we have today.

    The most important thing is that we must understand ourselves as sinful in thoughts, words and deeds and how a Holy, just and righteous God sees us but loves us enough to provide us a way of redemption. Please read: [WHY WE HAVE NO HOPE IN OURSELVES: Mk. 7:20-23 And he (Jesus) said, That which comes out of the man, that defiles the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things (sins) come from within, and defile the man.] [WHY WE NEED A SAVIOR: Rom. 3:10-28 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understands, there is none that seeks after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that does good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes. Now we know that what things so ever the law says, it says to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his (God's) sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ to all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God has set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believes in Jesus. Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. Therefore we conclude that man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. Rom. 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:]

    Romans 2:14 For when the Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature those things which are of the law, such persons, not having the law, are a law unto themselves. 15 For they reveal the work of the law written in their hearts, while their conscience renders testimony about them, and their thoughts within themselves also accuse or even defend them
    Aquinas: "Natural Law is the same for all men... there is a single standard of truth and right for everyone... which is known by everyone"
    "Actions are about singular matters: and so it is necessary for the prudent man to know both the universal principles of reason, and the singulars about which actions are concerned" (1265 AD)
    There are more
    Cicero: "True law is right reason in agreement with Nature; it is of universal application. Unchanging and everlasting; it summons to duty by its commands and averts from wrongdoing by its prohibitions" (54 BC)

      This issue was resolved 7 years ago. It's preserved by protein cross linking, the release of free radicals in the blood combined with iron acts as a kind of formaldehyde to aid in preservation.
      The scientist involved, Dr Mary Schweitzer, is a Christian yet she's gone on record saying how upset she is that young earthers are misrepresenting her work to imply young ages. It doesn't.
      The untreated fossil was carbon dated to satisfy the creationists and the results came back carbon dead because there's no carbon in it, because it's millions of years old.

    Seriously bad stuff. As St Augustine said about 1,500 years ago, this kind of thing makes Christianity look bad. As an atheist, that does not worry me too much but it ought to worry you guys, particularly given that you claim to love truth so much. A couple of points to show just how bad it is.
    //You don't look at fossils and see evolution, you see dead things ...//
    That's as silly as saying "You don't look at a fossil and see a flood. You see dead things".
    //To make a fossil is a catastrophic event ...//
    Well an organism does have to die first. I guess from the organism’s perspective, that could be deemed to be a catastrophe.
    But beyond that, we know that it does not necessarily take a catastrophic event for fossils to form. For example, some organisms can die and fall into water that is hostile to other organisms that may destroy the associated bones, allowing them to be covered gradually. Or the organism may fall into a tar pit. Or it may be covered by a drip of resin. Or the event may be catastrophic but have nothing to do with water. For example, the organism may be covered by sand in a wind storm. Or the event may be a catastrophic event but a very localised one. For example, an undersea landslide.
    We do know that, on average, any dying organism becoming fossilised is very, very, very unlikely. And a fossilised organism remaining in the geologic record to be discovered later, is also very, very unlikely.

      It does. I think truth is important.
      As for commenting on things that don't exist. Missionaries go to other places to effectively comment on things they don't believe exist, namely the God's or gods of other cultures.
      People often do this kind of thing.
      //It really amazes all ...//
      Are you sure all Christians feel the same as you?

      C'mon. Ham ought to know better. Cameron ought to know better.
      There is plenty of good literature out there explaining how fossils form. It's silly to say that fossilisation requires a catastrophe. I showed how that is not necessarily the case at all and any good text book on the topic will back me up on that.
