As a native american, I must say, I found this movie to be a favorite and this is one of my most favorite scenes of Vince Vaughan. I loved the Indian jokes from start to finish. You gotta remember, you sign yourself over to the military, you sign yourself up to be mentally trained in every way. Even personal insults. You don't have to censor the Indian jokes man. I love it.
Most people don't seem to get that the entire point of drill sergeant's 'mis-racing' recruits is to throw them off with mental games. You WILL accept that the Sergeant has labeled you the wrong race/gender/religion. You WILL accept your newly christened goofy-ass nickname. And you WILL NEVER contradict the Sergeant in non-life threatening situations as you're supposed to follow all orders while you're just a recruit in training. Do all this and your sergeant will know that you are someone who can be relied on no matter how much shit people give you. _P.S: There are exceptions however, and I will not deny that actual racism has happened in military environments, but for this example of film entertainment - that conversation is not relevant for now._
It's been so long since I've seen this movie i forgot my favorite line so when i heard "you look like an Indian" "I'm polish sergeant " WRONG" I laughed so hard!
Reminds me of an episode I had in basic training. Summer, 1983, Ft. Benning, C-2-2, DI SSG Dilbeck. End of day, after final formation, late mail call. I was taking an early shower, and the DI calls formation on the street. Everyone falls out in their relaxed uniforms: brown T shirt, BDU pants, boots, and cap. I, being in the shower, run out with a towel around my cut 160lb waist. Well, it goes without saying that I was in for it. "On your face", that's about all I remember as I entered into the front leaning rest position on the soft boiling black GA asphalt for a 30 minute impromptu exercise session. Oh, and the towel fell off after about 5 minutes, so on every 1 & 3 count the tip of my modest love muscle had to kiss the pavement, the rest of the platoon in formation holding back their smiles. Looking back on it, it was actually very funny, although not at the time. RIP SSG Dilbeck, I still keep a $100 bill in my wallet, per your guidance, and I never except accuses, as they are a sign of weakness.
I will say this fact for everyone to dispute or agree, Vince Vaughn does not make a particularly intimidating drill instructor. He is almost marginally comical while trying to be defiant and terrorizing, it comes off very poorly.
They had to tone DOWN the stuff he actually did or nobody would believe it was real. As it stands this was still a fantastically entertaining movie about a real person who should be recognized as the badass hero he really was.
@@blacksheep_edge1412 That is what I've always heard about this movie/story.............he actually saved MORE people than what is stated in this movie!
@@quasimotto8653 Some estimates are well above 100, while Doss himself only claimed 25 or so, the official number was a compromise between those two extremes.

Andrew Garfield and Vince Vaughn are always a treasure.
How are these RUclipsrs not know Vince Vaughn wa sin this movie? It’s not that old
I think it was more of a shock to see him in a serious role considering his track record of films'

Only this Generation would be shocked by the drill Sargents Comments!😅
Please do a reaction mashup of Desmond doss gets beat up scene
Or the scenes where he rescues 70 + men without carrying a weapon , and earning the medal of honor

You couldn't be more wrong
hard disagree
@themarshmallowknownasking671 I should know because I was in the military, 8 years United States Army

@manny2manny275 Yrsh right, arse hole!
When I found out how much of this story was changed for "entertainment purposes" the movie was ruined for me

@ that’s not what I’m talking about, they faked all the stuff about his life prior to what happened at Hacksaw Ridge

Of course they had to take creative freedoms remember most of the audience are not knowledgeable in the military or the history of war
A cheap ripoff of Full Metal Jacket
This is a true story unlike your example
And if anything, this is more realistic because in the military, they can’t curse nor touch the privates
