Mahalo for the wonderful explanation of hand movement in Hula! I'm living in San Diego and I joined a Polynesian dance center two months ago. I'll be performing four songs with my group this upcoming Sat so I'm browsing through videos to better my movement accuracy. I danced Salsa and bachata for three years but I do notice the difference in hip movement between those dances and Hula. Appreciated your videos!

Mahalo for the great lessons for Hula. 7 years ago I enrolled my two young Granddaughters in Hula lessons. They are grown now (teenagers) and have too many other priorities! But I have always loved the Hula and at 77 years old I started dancing with a group here where we live. Have a lot to learn!

I have been taking private Hula lessons while watching your videos on the side. My teacher is a good dancer but you explained the details much better. Your videos are fun as well and now I use them to practice with a group of women who are also learning Hula.
I think it’s wonderful that you are doing this! It will help a lot of people learn how to hula when they can’t find a class nearby. I look forward to more of your videos and keeping up the good work please!
Is it possible to make more hula steps or hand movement practice videos? My group of friends love to practice with it.
Thanks again and I hope you have a wonderful weekend in Hawaii!

Thanks for giving my reply your kind attention. I was searching for a hula dance that will really give us the right movement of the hands and came accross to your channel and was amazed how you clearly explained it. On May 2019 we want to surprise our friends with ahula dance in their wedding day i hope to see more hands movement telling about a paradise on earth with songbirds singing, happy family and friends, living altogether in the land peacefully with abundant foods for everyone praising God Jehovah for everything. Thanks you very very much . May you have a good day every day and may Jehovah God provides you and your family healthty body and protection . Good day!

Aloha LadyJoe - Mahalo for subscribing and leaving a positive comment.
Do you mean palms up within the hula? If you check out the hula "E Ku‘u Sweet Lei Poina ‘Oe" I do it frequently in that hula. I hope this answers your question?

Hello! Watching all the way from Finland!
You mentioned all questions were welcomed so... here it goes!
How can I make sure my wrist is not too stiff?
The finger motion is coming quite fine, but I feel like my wrists are blocked and I dont know how to change that...
    Thank youuu!!!

    • @iHulaHawaii
      @iHulaHawaii  5 лет назад +3

Aloha olkiaszx from Finland! Mahalo for subscribing and leaving your question. Your wrist should be loose enough to move, like in the exercises in this video. Think of you fingers and hands as one unit that move together. If you're only moving your fingers, yours wrists will be stiff. Keep practicing - the hula hand is usually not mastered initially, and gets better and better with practice. Let me know if this helps!

Hi Lynn! I've been wanting to learn Hula for a very long time, but never had the courage to try - but today I found your channel. I really like what I see, but I'm still finding some difficulties on doing the hips movements - it's been YEARS since I don't dance to anything at all. I feel like my body is a rock. Any tips? :(

    • @iHulaHawaii

Aloha Adrieli! Mahalo for subscribing and leaving a comment. That's so neat to hear you've been wanting to learn for so long and now you finally can begin with my hula videos.
Tips: I would start using the videos in order that they appear. I've carefully planned each video to build from the previous one. Start with the basics and use the warm-up hula songs. In the show notes of the videos, you'll find practice tips too. Enjoy!
Do you have anyone to learn this with you?

@@iHulaHawaii It's only me! But if it helps, I'll invite someone to learn with me. Now, I should try again with your tips. Mahalo nui loa for replying, Lynn. Many success to you. I hope one day we meet in Hawaii. 💞

Learning with a friend helps as you can challenge and encourage each other to learn and keep at it.
Mahalo for your kind words. Have fun with the videos. Happy hula!
