Rotarod apparatus is used to evaluate the muscle relaxant property of any drug, but it can also be used in the evaluation of the anti-anxiety activity. The drug, which cause depression of motor function leading to relaxation of voluntary muscle, is known as a muscle relaxant. A common sign of anti-anxiety drugs is muscle relaxation. Whenever we introduced any anti-anxiety drug in any experimental animal then the drug produces the relaxation of the muscle. These can be co-relating with its efficacy. Rotarod apparatus can be easily assembled and can be made in the classroom or Experimental room.
(1) This instrument consists of a rod, which is connected to a rotating belt at specific RPM at one end, the rate of rotation of the rod should be adjusted to that speed that a normal mouse can stay on a plane or on the rod for an appreciable period generally about 3-5 mint of time.
(2) The platform of apparatus is fitted with an auto cut device, which gets a stop when rat/mice fall down, otherwise, it continues its countdown.
(3) When mice are placed upon rotating rod mice try to hold it as tightly as possible, and this causes anxiety, after some time it will fall down and this time will be noted.
(4) After administration of an anti-anxiety drug, this response time will be shorter than before as the anxiety will be reduced by anti-anxiety drug and relaxation of the muscle is another sign of antianxiety drugs

+Shubha Preveen Fall of time is directly proportional to efficacy of antianxiety drugs. Rat or mice without antianxiety drug will take time to fall down as they are in fear (Anxiety) and will try to protect them self by gripping with dotted rod. But when you give antianxiety drugs they will feal calm and it will also relax their muscle frip so they will fall down earlier.
Anxiety state- Longer time to fall
With Antianxiety drug- Shorter time to fall due to effect and muscle relaxation.

This depends on the protocol or experimental model. In general class practical we may take 3 group or 2 group.

Ayesha khan Har group ke individual exp animal ka falling time note karte hai aur uska avg. nikalte hai. Same procedure is applicable with other group. Jiska falling time kam hai wo group ye show kar raha hai ki muscle relaxant activity achhi hai as compare to other.
