the meaning and lyrics of this song mean so much. the fact that they chose this particular song to be in the movie at that particular time, is so powerfully moving. it’s almost as if the song was made to be in the movie. it portrays the movie so beautifully. every single lyric fits harry, ron, and hermione’s story so well. like, how they feel when getting on the train to hogwarts, how they’ve been friends for so long but they feel light is dimming because of the dark lord, how it all started at hogwarts and then ended at hogwarts, how the song says that some of past away and how it changed everyone, how their fears lay within their wins (how they are scared to loose each other and others when fighting, and so much more. it’s so beautiful. and the way harry and hermione dance and forget about what’s going on around them. their friendship is so powerful, beautiful, and so strong and it’s proven in this scene. this is one of the most beautiful and meaningful scenes in their film time. well done, jkr.

It also can be linked to the holocaust and a small bit of what they went through. The pain and suffering brought to so many children. This can be taken over to many different events that are still happening today: wars, abuse, neglect, bullying ,etc. I love this song because it helps me to remember that I’m not alone in the pain of what I’ve gone through in live (luckily it has been nothing compared to the holocaust or abuse, but I’ve gone through bullying and still do and I’ve been hurt physically by a person I thought was a person i could trust on multiple occasions. The problems I had have lead me to have problems with confidence, communication and trust and because of these I get what I’ve worked out to be panic attacks. I’m scared of the boy who hurt me and it effects me badly even though it only happened just over a year ago now.) I understand if you think what I’ve said is wrong but music is something that is always open to interpretation and is made to be listened and linked to your own heart and life. It’s made for you to feel and feel close to and this is how I feel it links to me, not everyone will see it the same way but for those who do, I hope it gets better in the end, for you and me. Such a simple action is so important to them in that moment just for comfort for the both of them. The scene didn’t seem like about romance to me it seemed like it was about needing something to keep the two friends going to carry on until the end for the world they live in and they hadn’t been thinking about what they needed until that moment only the responsibility that was forced on them at such you ages. @@naytzesuarez1454 Interesting that people say this is about the Holocaust when the word "Gulag" pops up in the song. Gulag was a Soviet work camp and not a Nazi camp, maybe read a damn history book for once
I was listening to the song and when the part that Harry and hermione were dancing to came I called my little brother he’s 6 and danced with him and I started to cry my eyes out 🥺🥺 I recommend dancing to this song (it is very emotional)
wow i just cried. this song means so much to me as a harry potter fan, it gave them a chance to relax and forget about the situation they were put in. they were just kids and had all this weight put on them and all these people relying on them. i will love this song forever
I think this song is indeed deeper than it looks. It's not about the reality in concentration camps. It's about our true nature, the one that we had when we were children, when we were still in the Kingdom. We lost it by growing up, by falling into the trap of growing up. We are old and the magical light we had is now dim. The poor Jim found out what we gave away for illusions of the adult world and when the company realise it they apologise to the future generation for having perpetuated the hoax of the adult world. All what they adults can do is to incite children to raise their voice and to not succumb to the cleaners' will to eliminate any trace of divine beauty. This is a hymn to the child inside us to wake up from the deception. An hymn to our true nature that got lost into the games of the world. The gulag is just a manifestation of this principle of death and total absence of divinity, that comes out as violent institutions. I love this song.
I think you are right. You explain it so beautifully. To me, this song is about the dark side of humanity taking over and destroying the inner child that lives within us. I think this dark side can be represented as greed, violence, crimes, wars...or even society, which is often blinded, dysfunctional and distant from true and honorable values that should be cherished. This song is a call to our inner child, the one true savior of humanity on earth. Such a beautiful and meaningful song.
What I find crazy about the inclusion of this song in Harry Potter, the emotions that the characters are feeling are far beyond anything they could’ve imagined when they first started in Hogwarts when they turned 11. Furthermore, the Harry Potter films really don’t include any licensed music, let alone soft rock. So something about the inclusion of this song makes it feel so real and heartbreaking!
Oh god I hope Leonard Cohen listened to this before he passed..Nick Cave's deep respect and reverence of him really shine in this piece..it brings tears..
Amazing son, really touching. I did discover this song via Harry Potter, but it's only when you listen to the lyrics and realise that it is about the holocaust, that you fully understand. Nick Cave is awesome!
everyone here talking about harry and hermione or draco and me here bawling my eyes out for dobby. you deserved the world dobby, we love you. you are free now❤️
Please, please, stop the "still listening to this in [current year]" bullshit. This is not even decades old or anything. Plus it sounds quite childish and trite, too
@Outlaw By Nature Well in the books there was a lot of chemistry between harry and ginny and ron and hermione. But in the movies that portrayed ginny horribly! In the books she was so much more stronger and funnier and smarter. And as for Ron and Hermione there was sooo many things in the books that hinted that they should be together, but it's the same for the movies. There's also a lot of scenes in the movies. But Hermione and Harry, its just weird. Their scenes were honest and playful, but in my opinion there was no chemistry. I think this dance in the movie was meant to show them as friends. They were laughing and having fun for a bit, but there wasn't any "looking in the eye" or "his hand on her waist" ya know? Plus right afterwards Hermione began to mourn for Roj again. I dunno I just love the Hinny and Ronmione ships too much, but I respect yours ofc!!
@Outlaw By Nature there were plenty of scenes in the movie that showed how "awkward" their friendship or hinted at something more of that makes any sense. In the second movie when Hermione was running in the hall after she was unperified, she hugged Harry but not Ron. That is chemistry!! And in the third movie they grabbed each others hands when they saw Buckbeak the hippogriff. There's just a lot of scenes that show how awkward they can be, and that they should be together
I heard this song on hp7 and soon forgot about it... then i came across it again last september while watching some hermione vids. It's 6 months since then and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds has become my favourite band ever. I own so much to JK Rowling and to my testosterone.
This song is so beautiful. It shows the purely platonic but strong friendship between Harry and Hermione. They just drift away into a small part of existent together, away from there problems and just being together while they dance. I’m sobbing listening to thinking about a harry giving his hand to Hermione.
@@Æthelstan.927_I7O7 it’s not directly about that. You can believe it is but others may not, there is no need to say what others should believe the song is about.

Yeah it's way more heartbreaking when you realise it's about the children who died in the holocaust and not about a book series with wizzard rasicm

First time watching hp today and discovered this gem
Rewatch HP and remember this good song
Me, too. It is my favorite scene in the movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part I that Harry and Hermione's dance.
Meeee!!
we are all in 2020 you div
This song makes me feel a way I can’t describe I love it
Still listening to this can't forget hp that easily mate..
see its wonderful that great movies can expose this music to people that may otherwie not have heard it
You're absolutely right. Wind River got me listening to Nick Cave, and then I went back and watched HP and was able to better appreciate this.
Couldn't agree more
I had never seen the Harry Potter series until last week, I finished the last two yesterday, I never understood how powerful and touching it is and this scene in the film is so perfect

Pass me that lovely little gun
My dear, my darling one
The cleaners are coming, one by one
You don't even want to let them start
They are knocking now upon your door
They measure the room, they know the score
They're mopping up the butcher's floor
Of your broken little hearts
O children
Forgive us now for what we've done
It started out as a bit of fun
Here, take these before we run away
The keys to the gulag
O children
Lift up your voice, lift up your voice
Children
Rejoice, rejoice
Here comes Frank and poor old Jim
They're gathering round with all my friends
We're older now, the light is dim
And you are only just beginning
O children
We have the answer to all your fears
It's short, it's simple, it's crystal clear
It's round about and it's somewhere here
Lost amongst our winnings
O children
Lift up your voice, lift up your voice
Children
Rejoice, rejoice
The cleaners have done their job on you
They're hip to it, man, they're in the groove
They've hosed you down, you're good as new
They're lining up to inspect you
O children
Poor old Jim's white as a ghost
He's found the answer that we lost
We're all weeping now, weeping because
There ain't nothing we can do to protect you
O children
Lift up your voice, lift up your voice
Children
Rejoice, rejoice
Hey little train! We are all jumping on
The train that goes to the Kingdom
We're happy, Ma, we're having fun
And the train ain't even left the station
Hey, little train! Wait for me!
I once was blind but now I see
Have you left a seat for me?
Is that such a stretch of the imagination?
Hey little train! Wait for me!
I was held in chains but now I'm free
I'm hanging in there, don't you see
In this process of elimination
Hey little train! We are all jumping on
The train that goes to the Kingdom
We're happy, Ma, we're having fun
It's beyond my wildest expectation
Hey little train! We are all jumping on
The train that goes to the Kingdom
We're happy, Ma, we're having fun
And the train ain't even left the station
what? you wanted me to type it out word for word?
That's so dark
Have some light then...
Lu:17:20: And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:
Lu:18:17: Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
Thanks for the lyrics...

This song is sad, but really good at once, the most known from HP
This is the song I want people to play at my funeral

@@kookvsp7863 I actually wrote this comment before I made it Cedric Diggory ahhahahahhahaha
deadric 🙈
Same
Deadric-
Cave's voice is so awesome but the background choir/singers/vocals really make this song.
Every time I hear this song I remember my deceased dog bc I danced with him while listening to this record. RIP Chowdy. It has been 4 years, and I still miss you.
Everyone is talking about Harry Potter and and the song is literally about the Holocaust.
honestly the use of the song in HP was pretty fuckin tasteless
Some people don’t know it’s about the Holocaust and just remember it from Harry Potter and don’t actually know the meaning behind it yk
true, i first heard this in harry potter but its dumb how they dont even care bout the meaning
@@naytzesuarez1454 Interesting that people say this is about the Holocaust when the word "Gulag" pops up in the song. Gulag was a Soviet work camp and not a Nazi camp, maybe read a damn history book for once
But in Harry Potter it’s a critic about the system and related nazism
I was listening to the song and when the part that Harry and hermione were dancing to came I called my little brother he’s 6 and danced with him and I started to cry my eyes out 🥺🥺
I recommend dancing to this song (it is very emotional)
wow i just cried. this song means so much to me as a harry potter fan, it gave them a chance to relax and forget about the situation they were put in. they were just kids and had all this weight put on them and all these people relying on them. i will love this song forever
Hey girl is there a way I can text you? I just need someone to talk to and I don’t think anyone will understand and I don’t want judged
This song shouldn’t have been in the movie in the first place
A fuckong book series is more inpactful then the fucking holocaust
I agree. I love this song so much.
Similar to a possible reading of "Donnie Darko"
@@skitziee7310 How is it man?
I think you are right. You explain it so beautifully. To me, this song is about the dark side of humanity taking over and destroying the inner child that lives within us. I think this dark side can be represented as greed, violence, crimes, wars...or even society, which is often blinded, dysfunctional and distant from true and honorable values that should be cherished. This song is a call to our inner child, the one true savior of humanity on earth.
Such a beautiful and meaningful song.
I love this song and you’re so right, I really like the way you wrote it

@@loganwoolley1976 it’s easy for me lol
This song makes me cry every time. Absolute classic for Harry Potter fans!
It makes me cry to because It's about the holocaust and not wizard rasicm
What I find crazy about the inclusion of this song in Harry Potter, the emotions that the characters are feeling are far beyond anything they could’ve imagined when they first started in Hogwarts when they turned 11.
Furthermore, the Harry Potter films really don’t include any licensed music, let alone soft rock. So something about the inclusion of this song makes it feel so real and heartbreaking!
Yeah it's way more heartbreaking when you realise it's about the children who died in the holocaust and not about a book series with wizzard rasicm

Amazing son, really touching. I did discover this song via Harry Potter, but it's only when you listen to the lyrics and realise that it is about the holocaust, that you fully understand. Nick Cave is awesome!
I thought this song was about the pain of dealing with the world and how older generations ruined it for the next generations
@Videos RUclips yes but harry potter isn't no where near as impactful and meaningful as the holocaust

Aww Harry and Hermione.. makes me want to cry every time
Molly Moo's Nails oh, before your comment i couldn't remember where I heard this song. And then I'm like how it was possible?! 😂
@Outlaw By Nature I agree, and I could never understand the Harry/Ginny thing. Like seriously your best friend's little sister????
@Outlaw By Nature
brother and sister
The song is heartbreaking because its about the fucking holocaust
@@Æthelstan.927_I7O7 it’s not directly about that. You can believe it is but others may not, there is no need to say what others should believe the song is about.
