      Hey Phil, sorry to hear. Exactly the same size and the same age was Kendragon's tig or some other big name old-timer's on the MFK, 32" and 13 years. Seems natural passing. That's short. I really hoped tigs lived longer. I still do.

    Internet posts say Tigrinus reach a size of 24"..hard to believe that is the maximum size. I think all the shovelnose cats can reach a meter or so. IF it is some dwarf type..you have breeders right there or soon.
    Magnificent fish. If I were to list a must have for the huge home aquarium..its right there..behind Arowanas and maybe a few other big but not gigantic home fish.

      Shovelnose is a common name for many different genus, some of which, for instance, Sorubim don't exceed 1'-2'. If you think Pseudoplatystoma, then I'd largely agree with you. Among the Brachyplatystoma the smallest is the juruense, not exceeding 2'. Tigs reach 3', I have seen it with my own eyes but this size has not been properly documented by the keeper who raised that tig, so it is not reflected in the usual places - Planet Catfish, ScotCat, Fish Base, SeriouslyFish all shortchange the tig max size badly IME.

      For some reason I don't see your comment about piraiba anymore. I don't know why. Anyhow, everything about our three piraibas is posted in this thread: www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/posts/7755699

      Thank you. The tank build is being filmed in a time lapse manner as we speak. It will be published when all is done.

    That Texas cichlid has bloat...that can be treated. Sometimes rocksalt bath will undo a blockage..there might be some chemical cures also.

    • @Fish-Story
      @Fish-Story  4 года назад

      I don't think so. It's been like that for 2 years or longer and has never had a bad appetite. I believe it is either the fat deposits or the amount of food being digested or both.

    • @StanTheObserver-lo8rx

      @@Fish-Story I think still its a bloat. I've had Koi-large Koi- get that and act,eat,act normal. When I gave her a salt bath..she shrank as I recall. The belly was never as distended. So long ago I might have used bloat medications. Goldfish and Koi had me treating them for this and that over the decades. I loved the big show quality Shubunkins I had. I miss that part of the hobby. No room for ponds now.

      Thank you. Hmm, maybe I could try giving it an Epsom salt bath. This is the laxative salt you probably had used and are talking about here, no? I also have one 2'+ koi that's been my grave concern for a long time with a badly and asymmetrically distended belly, while it feeds like a pig and behaves normally.

      @@Fish-Story Same here.She was a huge Ohgon Koi,5 pounds or so. Very tame,a pet really. She lost most of the bloat but she did forever have a slight tilt. I think with her I used some chemical bath...it was the goldfish that rock salt was good enough.
      I'm not that big on Mag salts for baths..rock salt is more easy on the fish. Taste mag salts and its like you ate a metal. Rock salt tastes like ...salt. It sold super cheap. Water softening too.

      @@StanTheObserver-lo8rx Rock salt is 99.8%-99.9% sodium chloride. I am not aware that it can be used as an efficient, or even any kind of laxative, at any concentration. But maybe I need to learn that.

    I just had a thought pop in to my head with the Texas cichlid could it be a fat build up like how arowana can get drop off

    • @Fish-Story
      @Fish-Story  4 года назад +1

      It could be. Also could be a large amount of feed being digested or a bloat or the two of, or all three.

    Do you thank its the tigranus catfish's temperment, not to be aggressive or is it the number of them in one tank that keeps the aggression down,,

    • @Fish-Story
      @Fish-Story  4 года назад +1

      Tigs don't tolerate each other usually. It's the number of them and the small space.
