I don't win every race, the overall score with this group is now 2-2. With me taking the 2 CC races and them taking 1 CC race and now this lockout bingo (not all races are made into videos). This video spoils the next upload which will just be a the raw vod dump of a co-op perfection run that should be live in the next few days.

Love lockout bingo content! Would love to see more, and hopefully clarifications for definitions added to the bingo cards (like gem definition, whether construction goals count at start or finish, etc.)! Would also generally be cool to see enough of these that the "meta" for them gets kinda explored and fleshed out.
I think there are two things that point to Quartz not being a gem. 1 - Emily and Dwarf love all gems - they only "like" quartz. Ergo, not a gem. 2 - The "gem node" can drop all gems. It can't drop quartz.
Amethyst is also quartz though

Actually quartz would count as a gem. It has a crystalline structure. That’s how it gets the terminating points that are well known for quartz
also since amethyst is just purple quartz, if amethyst counts as a gem then quartz has to count as well
You're both correct however in Stardew Valley it isn't a gemstone, it's a foraged mineral like earth crystals.
In Stardew the big distinction seems to be how they're collected. Gems are mined from nodes and the wiki counts quartz and the rest as 'foraged minerals', which I think is apt. A big indication is the gemology profession which does not grant extra quartz, fire quartz, frozen tears or earth crystals, only true gems. Emily also loves all gems which, again, excludes quartz.
In real life I believe gems aka gemstones aren't really a thing or category. They can just be any rock or mineral that looks shiny and pretty as far as I know.
Gems are just minerals that hold value as gemstones. All minerals have a crystalline structure by definition. The argument for quartz though would be that it's sometimes sold cut, faceted, and polished as a pretty decoration.

Oh cool. I didn't think anyone working on a farm irl would really like stardew or other wholesome type farming games. I kind of thought it gave a sort of airy reputation to a job that's actually a lot of hard work that you might not appreciate. Or you had enough of farming in your job and didn't want to watch or play more in your free time at least lol
wow thats so interesting! im from rural pennsylvania and theres a lot of farms here. if you dont mind, can i ask what kind of things you do when you work on a farm? its just really cool to me learning about other peoples lifestyles :))

I work for an indoor aquaponics farm ALSO in rural PA. we raise tilapia and their poo acts as a fertilizer for the plants, which is like deluxe speed grow 😂. it's not quite the same as outdoor farming, but I can share some of my experience. We grow mainly lettuce, kale, and herbs (basil, rosemary, oregano, dill, etc).
Most of the daily activities are making sure our chemicals are balanced for fish/plant growth, cleaning of fish tanks/plant systems (gotta constantly keep up on this), plant maintenance, pest management (spider mites, aphids, thrips), harvesting plants (or occasionally fish), feeding fish, watering potted plants not in the watering system, and diagnosing/ solving any issues that arise like fish diseases. there's many more tasks that pop up here and there, but in my case it's many related to taking care of the fish. if you take care of the fish in an aquaponics system, then the fish take care of the plants for you.
look into aquaponics farming! it's much more water/space efficient and sustainable (70% less water usage!). we can grow 360 heads of lettuce/kale all within a 10' x 6' x 8' area. All the plants are submerged in fish poo water, so no watering or dirt is needed! I love my job, feel free to ask questions!
edit: one thing i forgot is the whole aspect of planning out sowing schedules (when to plant crops, so that you will have a constant flow of fresh crops)

There's 2 ways to go with Quartz. For one, it's crystalline. Alternatively, you can't smelt gems.

My best guess was that when the board options were made someone had that text as a placeholder they forgot to delete in the JSON file before submitting, and the rng that generated which bingo board they had happened to pull that item in that slot. Either that or it was an automatic filler due to the file only having 24 items.

The most commonly accepted definition of “gem” is a crystal that has been cut and polished to look more desirable, based on the in game sprite quartz looks pretty raw compared to some of the others? But yeah it not dropping from a gem node is prolly an easier solution lol

With the exception of a very late game seed, they spawn randomly
You can get them suuuperr late game if you're unlucky with spawns. But like, SO late game

Yeah it reduces the morning lag, gives space for kegs/jars, and counts towards perfection
