Arsenal fan here. I was very skeptical when we signed Raya, couldnt see why we would want to replace Ramsdale. Took a while for me to be on Arteta's side with the Ramsdale decision, but i cant argue with results

I was in the Arteta out camp for large portions of initial stages, so you ain’t alone Rory. From memory, only Mark Goldbridge (who happens to be a Man Utd fan could see from the start that Arteta was building something) was convinced that Arteta might work for Arsenal and watching his videos, I used to think of him as a clown for supporting Arteta, but how wrong have I been proved.
In the hindsight, It is amazing to think how things have turned out for Arteta and Arsenal. Interestingly, all his initial signings were defensive minded (as opposed to Chelsea) - hence a lot of Arsenal fans were frustrated with Arteta’s tactics. For example: Cedric, Auston Trusty, Odegaard(most likely on loan), Pablo Mari, Tomiyasu, Lokonga etc etc. Gabriel Jesus was the first striker Arteta got after >2 years at the club.
What happens if arsenal don't win anything this year and next year ???

@@johnedwards9377this is a very young team. Only Chelsea and Burnley are younger. And also unlike Chelsea and Burnley this lot are competing for titles. Plus, their young superstars are extremely young. Saka, Martinelli, Saliba, all only 22. Even if they don’t win this season they’ll 100% be back next season, and most likely the season after, and they’ll still not even have reached their peak. The present and future are very bright for Arsenal, regardless if they win this season or not.

Odegaard is very all rounded but I don’t think he has any attribute that is anywhere close to world class.
Game reading he is not Busquets or Rodri. Long pass he is not Scholes or Alonso. Through pass he is not Iniesta or DavidSilva. Touches/close control/dribbling skills he is not Cazorla or Thiago.
No matter if he plays in a deeper role or a more advanced role, none of his attributes are close to a world class level. He just has a bit of everything and he work hard in pressing.

I was doubtful about Raya. I had been a fan of Kai since Leverkusen days so I was excited about him but was shocked at the price.
But I reached the state you have with arteta a year ago. So I didn't doubt the signings.

Arsenal wanted Raya and Toney for a long time. Way before Ramsdale arrived. It's just Brentford that was reluctant to sell. The thing about Arteta is that once he targets a player, he never forgets about it. Take Mudryk as an example. If tomorrow chelsea puts him on a transfer list, Arsenal will try to get him. This is a highly underrated transfer strategy. It also guarantees the player's total commitment to the club.
Raya/Ramsdale: Ramsdale is probably the better shotstopper but Arsenal are concentrating on denying shots to the opposition. Therefore, the keeper must be selected on his ability to play out from the back. Hence Raya.
If there are no shots, why pick the shot-stopper?

Nketiah has been ok sometimes but his ceiling is ultimately quite low.
At first I thought David Raya was an odd signing especially when he started against Chelsea and had that horror show of a game. however he's become much much better and the UCL shootout was a brilliant moment in his first season. Also looking back, Ramsdale mistakes cost us so much last season too

Arsenal fan here and I fully agree with the raya thing, ramsdale last season won us points single handedly and I thought his treatment was harsh(I still do, hope he gets a good club this summer) but raya has been very good and I can’t argue anymore

Odegaard and Gabriel deserve due props. I feel Rice and Saliba are more fan favourites, even though they deserve respect. I just think the initial two are the engine room of this whole Arsenal team. Either player deserve Arsenal POTY, with Rice in 3rd, White in 4th, Saka/Saliba 5th. Most improved has to go to Havertz. Raya for 2nd and I would select Kiwior as a potential candidate to win but he hasn't played as many games as Havertz. The rest can go back to training while these guys have a day off.

Would love to see Arsenal win it, but I think it will take a near perfect finish. All wins, one draw at the most. City more than capable of running the table. Other than Man Utd, I can see Liverpool running the table. I can't see Arsenal winning at Brighton, Old Trafford and at Tottenham. The Chelsea home game is a huge derby as well. A draw isn't out of the question. Then 2 games against Bayern. Its a big ask. Maybe a bit too big this season.

It’s ridiculous how the media make him out to be better than he is. His most admirable trait is his work rate but even then he lacks concentration when pressing at times
