Hi William, Chloe's hull is built from a marine grade Aluminum.. .. very Strong and corrosion resistant Al. Grade is 5083. It's an Al alloy comprised of Al, Mg, Mn and Cr. - it used to be special, but these days is used for most Al sea water hulls .... it's so cool that little amounts of impurity, added to the Al, can so radically change the metals properties.. Cheers! P&D
Yes. We have also seen some poor aluminum paint work as a result of this. It takes a lot of prep and high quality primers to get paint to stick to Al well. So.... We're going to try something new for Chloe's top sides paintwork. We'll use Vinyl Wrap instead. We'll see how it works out over time.... - but it's honestly a bit of an experiment. ie. this stuff.... www.3m.com/3M/en_US/graphics-signage-us/1080-wrap-film-series/ @@williamsmith2804
Like all in any small engineering businesses, if you have a custom request, it is a considerable resource cost for them to accommodate it. In this case they had to design and fabricate custom solar frames and wiring etc. We also asked them to install the bits & pieces needed for our custom graphic light wind sail. They were very accommodating. It's all part of buying a custom boat.. As a business they were very warm, welcoming and accommodating. I think they would work on many boat projects if asked and if it makes business sense to them. Suggest you contact them for a chat...
@@sailingchloe2330 Would love to start a project with them, it's just that I already have this other boat! (that is my avatar) Thanks for the response. Glad to see the boat is performing to your hopes and expectations.
As always, I enjoyed the ride and visit. The aluminum that Chloe is built from a special grade? Thanks

Did Garcia accommodate/prorate you sourcing different bits and pieces like the solar panels, sails, etc?
