On the studio version, is Robert Fripp playing or Steve Hunter? both are credited for the album, but I don't know who played guitar on that track in 1977.
@@pataleno wow, if this true then I am shocked. I don't know I ever saw or heard him play acoustic with the exception of the League of Crafty Guitarist output. Thanks for the info.
@@srb-ef3zs On Steves Website it looks like he's credited for 3 off the Album. Solsbury Hill the big hit. I'm convinced it's Fripps style on Humdrum CREDITS Robert Fripp - electric & classical guitars, banjo Steve Hunter - acoustic guitars on "Solsbury Hill"; lead guitar on "Slowburn" and "Waiting for the Big One"; electric, acoustic & rhythm guitars; pedal steel
Love this so much. When it all comes in at 1:47 I can't help thinking how great that would have sounded with Genesis at the time - Banks on HUGE pads, Rutherford on Taurus bass pedals.
Mah!!!!!
Saw you for the first time in 1978 as a 19 year old. Royal oak theater. I used to live there and move to Cincinnati in 1972 and drove up to see this tour.
Of The So Many reasons I love Peter Gabriel one Of The Most Amazing is How Mr. Gabriel manages to Put The Credits in the Description for Everyone from The Drummer to The Camera Man to the Janitor that Swept up After the Show. Good on you Peter
I usually listen at night in the dark, eyes closed.. and it still gives me shivers since the day I bought the LP...ages ago, this and Before the Flood and I'm back in my youth with Prog "from the white Star..came the bright Scar...."
So much talent on that stage. Have seen Tony play with so many acts over the years. He and his brother are touring now in fact and playing closeby to me in Western MA. Have seen Jerry with the Securty Project too, really enjoyed that. So glad Larry is in this video, and dear young Peter.
I saw the man at J.F.K. He took your ticket yesterday In the humdrum I ride tandem with a random Things don't run the way I planned them In the humdrum Hey Valentina, do you want me to beg? I'm not sure what I was expecting when I bought the first 2 Peter Gabriel cassette albums - after loving Gabriel #3. Every song. Not so much loving them at first. Definitely an odd mix, with Here Comes the Flood, DIY, Mother of Violence and Home Sweet Home maybe the only tracks i liked immediately. But I really, really liked them, and then I liked the Burgermeister, and most of Gabriel #2. Humdrum took a little longer to appreciate - but it's unique qualities have grown on me and now i find myself looking forward to hearing it again- as evidenced by my snapping this video on when I scrolled down to it. Will never be one of my favorite solo Gabriel songs, but 2nd tier PG is first tier most other musicians.
This TV show was exactly 13 days after I had seen Peter at The Scandinavium (NOT Konserthuset, as often mis-reported) in Gothenburg/Göteborg (depending upon where you grew up)…one of the greatest performances I ever attended. To think Peter was only 28 at the time amazes me almost as much as his music.

Also my favorite Gabriel song. This version is a little rough and not a very tight performance. Nevertheless ....... awesome !!! My favorite version of this tune is off his "Plays Live" double CD from 1983. That entire performance is wonderfully produced and sounds fantastic. One of the best sounding CD's you will could ever own in fact.
I know.....I have the double LP version...... the reason why Gabriel plays Live " sounds so good is they used studio overdubbing to "enhance "the live sound as Peter explains on the inner sleeve...... I"ll love this album untill eternity..........
It's one of my favorites, especially when Larry Fast hits those chords at the end.
Definately one of his best tunes. Especially the 2nd half is pure magic. I wish he extended this track improvising on this final theme.
When that "bridge" kicks in with the massive synths at 1:53...man, oh man, is that gorgeous.
In first album, this bridge have more textures, atmospheres, colors, .....
Did you know that Larry fast built those chords one note at a time on the first album. They didn't have polyphonic synthesizers in 1977.
This is my favourite Gabriel song

Yeah, the big chords at the end definitely have a Genesis feel to them.

Oh, yes. Saw the show from this tour on Pittsburgh, PA. Thank you for posting, so VERY cool to re-live the experience. HUGE fan since 1973!!!
i saw this tour in Lancaster UK. I remember he and the band always used to enter the theatre from the back, through the crowd, with torches. :-)
Sensational!
I was born at the right time. I have enjoyed Peter since Genesis.

Grand prix de l'Académie Cros ! Album magnifique
I was born in the wrong era, this is beautiful and original.
You were born in the right era. You can listen to Peter Gabriel anywhere, on your telephone.
I can tell you that his 1982 Security tour is one of the top 5 concerts I ever saw out of many hundreds. I've seen him live 4 times, he's great live.

good
Playing Moog keyboards in the 70s meant you had to be as proficient with knobs and buttons as an astronaut....
yes, in those times you had to be a REAL musician to make music.
suddenly Genesis reborn...
Rick Marotta and Tony Levin...A dynamic rhythm section for any musical combo...Even if Tony Levin looks like he should work as a bouncer...
Jerry Marotta not his brother Rick
I believe it’s Jerry Marotta on drums!!

2:01 I don't think this is one of the drummer's favorites.
