      @manusisback Hughie certainly at the top of the heap of all time great Southern rock guitarists for me....the Outlaws were killing it live in the early 90's with Chris Hicks...( The Outlaws Hittin' the Road Live album absolutely wails!!! )..I hated Hughie going to Skynyrd...the Outlaws were shelved for almost 10 years....I can certainly understand why he did it....

    Always loved this band ever since first hearing "Free Bird" on a FM station. As great as Ed King, Allen Collins, Steve Gaines and even Hughie Thomasson were, to me it was the playing of Gary Rossington (the little licks, fills, melodies and slide playing) that gave LS that special unique southern rock sound. Oh, and having Billy Powell as their secret weapon sure didn't hurt either. Hope they keep rockin' forever!!!

    • @donf3877
      @donf3877 Год назад +2

      Billy had really short fingers for a piano player... so he developed his own style. That style, and the immense POWER he had in those finger... really made him as much a part of the Skynyrd sound as the triple guitars. He loved the music so much, he played right up until he died. Supposedly of a heart attack, but the injuries he sustained from the accident was also a factor.

    • @donf3877
      @donf3877 Год назад +1

      @@bls8959 As Skynyrd would say, don't like it... then go the F away. The were the most "in tact" (learn what the quotation marks mean) 70's country rock band or rock band that was still touring. Most of them, the ONLY thing original is the name, cause there are NO original member period. At least these guys knew when to wrap it up. When the last original member passed, that was it. They did the "farewell" tour. And, at each venue (at least the three I went to down here where they really mattered), they said (paraphrased) thanks for letting us keep the music alive. "We know we ain't shit compared to the original" (actual quote), but we tried to play what they played the best we could in honor of them, and tried to be as true to their memory as we could. Now, all the original members of Skynyrd are together in heaven kickin' ass again. So thanks for the ride, and keep their memory alive.

    This era was really good. The guitar line up was not just solid, they all seemed to inspire each other.
    Owen Hale on drums is a revelation. I think he may be best Skynyrd drummer of them all (including Artimus), and his drums are mixed superbly on this recording. He is a very musical drummer, not just a time keeper...lots of dynamics. His time in the band was fairly short lived, but he also played on Skynyrds 'Twenty' album, and sounds equally great on those recordings.
    He was an in demand drummer on the Nashville recording scene. He's played on a ton of popular country records.

      @@jefferyfloyd4693 Sorry but you missed the boat on your prognosis about Artimus Pyle. His band (the Artimus Pyle Band) has been steadily playing for over 20 years now. I've seen them 4 x over the past 5 yrs. The two guitarists lead by Scott Raines are as good as they come. Aritimus is still behind the riser at 75. Not as powerful but who is at 75? I don't think he'll play too much longer but his son could take over. Artimus fell out of favor with Judy and Gary. Bad blood kept him from playing in the resurrection band. No problem. He rocks on his own.

    That Smell... They had all been there. The emotion in Billy's face. Ronnie was clean in the end. "If ya can't drink it or smoke it I don't f*ckin need it!" he said. I've smelled it. The Angel of Death. Waiting.
