THIS is the Trigon 6 review I was looking forward to Jamie. Sound design that demonstrates the musicality of the instrument. Superb ;) Sequential instruments just sound sooo damn good. Hopefully they will drop a module sometime soon-- and give us a break on the price. What a great compliment to the OB. Thanks for the review!
Cheers James, the P6, OB6 and now the Trigon are so easy to make them sound good, but the Oscillator section in the Trigon is brilliant, I'm sure there will be a module at some point.

I agree, the oscillator options are pretty cool - and the fact that there’s 3 of them. Doesn’t sound Moog-y to me, though 😕 … Too bright (it can do 303 and Solina sounds!!) and aggressive/‘modern’-sounding (not a Moog Sub fan) to my ears … and without the ‘Juice’/‘Syrup’/Smudge etc of more classic Moogs … 🤷🏻♂️ Obviously waiting to see what ‘The Super Bowl Synth’ is, now, anyway …
Nice review! It sounds really nice. I have too many synths at the moment though -_- One thing I really enjoyed was when you had that spec sheet of comparisons between the different synths and how you rated them. Do you plan to update that with this? I wonder how you might view things differently today too. I've thought about that with my own 'reviews' of gear. I come back later and I feel I'm a different person. And unfortunately, that's why I have too much stuff!
Hi, well, you do great with the Synths you have, I've played your demo's a number of times on my Show :) As for the scoring, no I won't be doing that as it's very subjective and cuases people to rant and disagree, so can't be bothered with that anymore.
Jamie, could you maybe one day do a video demystifying the differences between analog and digital modulation / mod matrix? Are there some meaningful differences that speak for favoring analog over digital modulation for analog synths? Is the meaningful difference the slight instability / variance of analog being woven into the modulation itself as well or are there some other meaningful differences?
Interesting idea. A lot of analog synths have digital envelopes and LFO’s, though something like this Synth has the “Vintage” knob, so can have variations of this. When it comes to digital synths, like the Waldorf Quantum and which have a large mod matrix, then you program in the variance of pitch and tone by both fixed and modulated offsets, some people have coined this as “Modelling’ but it’s just par for the course with sound design. There’s no standard set of changes I make, each patch is different and I just use my ears.
Great review fella. I had noticed on mine the envelopes definitely are lively on the attack & release, my P6 is very much the same. Have you noticed the chorus seems to be a bit richer in the Trigon? or may be down to the "Balder" oscillators :)
Yeah, it could be the Chorus is grabbing hold a bit more if it's being driven or has Feedback applied, though I think for me it's a bit more saturated over all, a bolder sound.
Great video and great sounds! Which would you recommend between OB-6, Prophet 6, Trigon-6, and Prophet 5? I’m looking for a Poly to complement my Matriarch for my film composing work!
They're all good, though some have a wider range of Sounds they can produce. Prophet 6 is a great all rounder, so maybe take a look at that. OB6 is my fav Synth, but as it's a 12db Filter, it might not give the tone you want. Trigon can do Sounds the others cannot due to the 3rd Oscillator. The Prophet 5 is a classic Synth but limited.
@@GEOSynths wow! all so different. what would you pick if you had to have just one Poly for a while! I can probably only get one for a bit at first! haha.
Do you think they missed a trick with the filter? Seems like a vanilla choice on top of what otherwise looks like an absolute beast. Can't help but feel that something akin to a multimode filter would have widened the sound palette even further (very happy to be corrected!)
Maybe as they had a State Variable in the OB6 they thought why not a Ladder Filter, I mean it's what they added to the Pro 3. The Filter isn't the main focus though for me, it's the added Oscillator that has made the difference to me. Strangely though, I prefer it in 2 Pole mode as it still self resonates and is much smoother. Resonance goes a bit wild in 4 pole mode.
I’ve had a play with the Trigon , only an hour or so, I though the filter was maybe a bit weak, it did the job though. I think this synth is all about the oscillators, I also found the tracking LFO very useful. It’s a great synth regardless with a great range of sounds. Basses are great on it especially using the distortion

What situations would you prefer the Trigon in or is it just OB6 in any situation? OB6 seems objectively worse in terms of the layout and featureset on paper.
I've had all 3, OB-6 is great but I had to streamline so kept the Trigon 6 as it's far more versatile and exciting to dive into. I have the Prophet 10 for my Prophet sounds and have used up all the OB-6 sounds I'd ever need after 4? years of it. I'm not who you asked but it might be of use.
Gordon Reid points out that this becomes more affordable with the module and simply triggering it with keyboard controller that sports more octaves. That’s the route I’ve taken.
While you can do quite a lot with the Trigon 6 and it does benefit from on board FX, inverted Filter Envelope and other aspects, it is limited by Voice Count of 6, 4 octaves and the Filter is ok. It is overpriced though and I see it is coming down in some places. I'd go for the OB-X8 as it's just a beatiful Sound and have more voices and a range of Filter types, just no onboard FX but there's ways around that, in fact my Bank for it, I make FX Presets as well using 2 Plug-Ins. Maybe the module will be best, but to be honest, i'd go with the keys.

Take 5; i would love to add another poly to add a different tone to my tracks. I would love to decide between trigon 6 module and ob 6 module. Can you give me some words please? Maybe Ob 6 can be more different than the trigon (regarding what ive already have)?
It sounds really good. I love the Sequential sound. But I‘m really happy with my Rev2 and Prophet 5. I bought the Polybrute because for my taste it is a really well thought out modern take on an analog Synthesizer. But for sure, you can get fantastic sounds out of every Sequential Synth.
16:57 When you did that, I just went to the OB-6 and Prophet-6 and realised that they both can send Aftertouch to LFO Anount. Never noticed it before!😂DUH! After 4-5 years!😂🙄🤪
Yu said you have more options modulating the oscillator shape when you can have multiple waveshapes at once, but I don't think you can modulate oscillator shape on this line you can on the p6/ob6? Am I wrong?
What I was referring to is the fact that you have more options to modulate because of the 3rd Oscillator, which allows you to use multiple waveshapes as Source, not modulating the Waveshape (Apart from Pulse) of the other Oscillators. The P6/OB6 will only have 1 Waveshape at any one time to use as Source...So with the Trigon you can create Counter rhythms just with Osc 3 and not use up the Global LFO as well. Another example. On the P6/OB6 once you select Osc 2 to act as an LFO or at Audio Rates, you are essentially left only with 1 Oscillator and a Sub, now you can make a lot of Sounds with this, just transpose up an Octave of Osc 1 and the Sub comes into Playable range and then with a touch of Vintage Knob, you'll get some nice per voice drift. The fact remains though, that you essentially still only have 1 Oscillator with the Sub tied an Octave below, not so with the Trigon, you can have Osc 3 be a Source at either LFO rates or Audio Rates and still have 2 Oscillators at the same frequency, detune slightly and keep that richness. This really comes to the fore when using Oscillator Sync as again, you essentially sacrifice 1 Oscillator, leaving you little options for detuning against another on the P6/OB6, not so on the Trigon.
Great review and patches Jamie! I've been having a play with this up/down saw on Osc 3 like you mentioned. I think the panel legend is wrong. Using just osc 1 and 2 at the same pitch, I get obvious phasing when Osc3 is set to Upsaw and just a gentle pwm-ish sound when set to Downsaw. This seems the wrong way around! So I think they've got the legend swapped so up is really down! On the MemoryMoog, Osc3's output is inverted IIRC so maybe they copied this and forgot to tell the panel designers!
My memory (pardon the pun) wasn't quite right. I just checked the MemoryMoog schematics and the Osc 3 output is indeed inverted in the audio path but it's then inverted again so ends up the right way. Its modulation path has an invert/normal switch but this only affects the modulation path, not audio, so nice one Sequential, giving us the option to invert the audio path as well. I still think the audio has a deeper cancellation against Osc 1 when using Upsaw, so I'm still thinking that's really a downsaw. The legend appears correct for the modulation path but wrong for the audio path. No big deal at all, just something to think about if you want more gentle beating or not.
Great review, thanks. But there are a few important down points for me: first, only 4 octave keyboard, second, severe stairstepping on important knobs like filter cutoff (unacceptable on a polysynth in 2023), third, inability to adjust different levels of modulation on different destinations. Of course the high price for a 6 voices only synth. And finally, it doesn't sound like a Moog (Memorymoog) it sounds like a DSI (or should I say Sequential). Anyway, thanks for sharing.
It’s not that it’s distorted as such, more saturated as it’s easy to drive into the filter unlike the P6 and OB6. I have done 100 patches for it and have them all on video, so it can do a range of sounds though I did concentrate on modulating at audio rates for a lot of the sounds for texture…it is a fair point though and maybe it isn’t the right sound for you, maybe the classic Prophet 6 will be a better fit
You hit the nail on the head: great interface/workflow and sounds fantastic, but the price... If you already have another synth (or controller) a P10 module actually costs less and that is no contest IMHO. Anyone considering 2 from this "series" could get a CODE/Omega 8 for less - again no contest there. Personally, were I spending this kind of money for an "old school" analog that P10 and possibly a Matriarch are the only synths I would even consider not from Studio Electronics.
The pale wood cheeks are a bad look for this beautiful sounding synth! I have 5 Sequential synths and debating between the Trigon 6 and the OBX8. I wouldn’t buy this based on the pale cheeks alone. I really hope sequential changes this up. If so, then I’m in for a buy. Also, this synth is like Dave’s idea was bringing together the Pro 3 + P6 + OB6 = Trigon 6.
It does looke much better in reality, they aren't unfinished wood and have a nice quality clear coat and feel smooth. If anything it just looks more modern and 'clean' which is just as good to me as my old OB-6 and P6 were (also got a Prophet 10 so I know how good wood can look! :) )
12:38 Resonance is lovely. People always crank it right up but this slightly Prophety resonance is fabulous at lower to mid levels.

It does looke much better in reality, they aren't unfinished wood and have a nice quality clear coat and feel smooth. If anything it just looks more modern and 'clean' which is just as good to me as my old OB-6 and P6 were (also got a Prophet 10 so I know how good wood can look! :) )
Waiting for cheaper vst version...
It'll be a long wait :)
You're chilling on the wrong RUclips channel
You could try layering repro with a minimoog emulation...

Such an expensive synthesizer with cheap knobs is absolutely disrespectful!
