I've been playing chess for like 2 years, currently 1487 rapid, which is very close to my peak rating of 1494 back in January.

1500. I would suggest in the 12-1400 as well to also start learning positional play. Around this time is where i started calculating tactics just to put my rook on the 7th rank or blasting through with minority attack and telling my opponents to cry about it

One thing I'll add on this is learning time management. Just playing the game and knowing the right mvoes usually isn't enough, at least in a competitive environment. You need to learn how to keep your time healthy, when not to use up too muchtime and when to use enough time. Usually, prepping openings is key to blitzing through the first few mvoes and then use your brains in the middle game imo.
Again, work on your time management. if you're playing classical, it's fine to take upto even 20 mins if you need it, but generally it shouldn't take too long ig. Rapid? I'd say a max of 3 mins in critical positions, but otherwise you should be putting in 20 seconds per move on average. Don't play blitz if you're still learning, you need to first learn what to play before playing fast.
Guess I'm in the 2000+ range, so i feel obligated to comment that openings really aren't that important at all until you get above 2000. The most important thing is to improve tactics by doing puzzles and if you're above 1400 some endgame studies/positional concepts are getting important.
But openings are an easy way to improve. Knowing nothing in the openings can easily get you trapped by your opponent.
2100 here, i'd say wether openings are important or not depends on the type of player you are, in my case, i play systems, the modern, KIA, stuff like that, and usually we leave theory pretty early on, its way more important to know how to play the position, the plans, the concepts, people at my level get beaten all the time by taking up too much time in an unknown position, or sometimes even a pretty straightfoward tactic, same as other ranges, it just happens a bit less often. I'd say tho, basic endgame knowledge, specially knight endgames, pawn endgames and rook endgames, will probably be enought to cross 2000.
So like how much focus do you think should be put on openings?
600-1000 range chiming in to touch on consistency a bit more. If you're here, you probably already play a lot of chess. You have a lot of great games, and a lot of bad games.
If you've been sticking with 1 or 2 openings, then you already have a lot of great games of your own that you can study. Go back, analyze those. Look at what your best moves in the first 10-15 turns were, and use those for next time.
If studying is hard, don't even try to study the whole game. Just the first 10-15 moves.

The best advice that I can give to 800-1000 and below its to pay attention to the game, and just do puzzles 30 min per day. These two allow me to reach 1200 yesterday just in matter of 3 weeks.
When I was something around 900, I played badly blundered pieces missed good moves etc. but I could feel that I've had big potential. And then I just listened to two advices of some IM or some of that and I skyrocketed. I know that probably that is not going to be the same to you if you are 900 or something but, that will help alot. I promise, that's all I have, wish good luck to anyone who reads this.
Oh, also what I mean by paying attention it means, no music no other deals, no videos on background and most importantly, do your things before you play like homework for example.

Just your highest mode. I do rapid cause that’s what I like, but this could be the same for blitz or bullet, if that’s what you play more

I'm 2100 and I got to this rating mainly because of tactics, and I don't really know any openings, because they're not that important
stfu. you probably know 10 openings for each side by heart and 0 tactics other than knight forks

Easily 1900 if I tried. I was stuck at 1500 for 3 of those years. So many games are just down to calculation for you and your opponents. Tactics.

I started Playing On August 2023 (10 Months Ago) I'm 2100 RAPID , 2400 BULLET , 2300 BLITZ , 1900 CLASSICAL , 2000 CORRESPONDENCE AND ALL VARIANTS ARE 2000+ AND RACING KINGS 1940
If youre playing on Lichess you can deduct at least 500 from that and you come close to your real Elo. So youre 1500+ which is awesome.

openings are not nearly as important as you say it is. Trust me, as a strong 1700 player i can give you a few lessons to get good

In my opinion openings are not gonna make u better if ur low rated then sure you will gain rating but that doesn't necessarily mean that you are getting better the best thing you can actually do is study endgames even if you get just a little bit you will become a far better player and thats coming from a guy that got to 2100 with just playing the london opening so you can trust me

For someone your age, that rating isn't bad. Just be consistent, do puzzles, and if you go IRL, make sure you spend your time wisely in classical. Time management is a really important thing to learn
