The real test would be to do all 3 with the exact same resin.
or atlest prime them the same color.
I did 4k and 8k with same resin, I no longer have a 2k printer so I couldn't :( but 2k to 8k isn't close, for sure, so I'm not sure it would matter
@@3dprintingpro212 What do you do with your old 2k printers? I've through about upgrading but don't want to just toss my OG Mars Pro in the garbage.

Man, I really love your videos, and I love the comparison on the printer types, and I don't mean to sound mean... but can you consider getting a lapel pin microphone? Your audio quality could be much improved with one.
Exactly this. You put out some of the best content regarding resin printing, but the sound makes it almost unwatchable. I really appreciate what you share though!
I agree with this comment. The video is great but the audio could be way better.
Where can we spend for a microphone - sound is terrible - content is great but invest just some dollars in a mic with hall reduction.
I really appreciate that you're making this comparison video. BUT... Due to a certain opacity with most resins it makes the results unclear. If you apply an even, basic primer coat to all three, you would get a better comparison imho. Not only would that negate any opacity issues with the resins used, it would also give a better real world result in what you can and cannot see in details on a mini. That an 8k printer should give better details then a 4k printer should be a no-brainer, the question becomes is that interesting in a real world scenario?
Excellent video. Only issue is audio. Can't hear with maxed earbuds.
Love your work
It looks like you have 3 different colors of resin - of course details are going to look different based on how they are lit.
not really. if you look close enough you can see the details. Yeah he should have used the same color, but if you spend a little time looking at the still, you can see the differences. all the edges on the final are sharper, and that's not because of color.
Hopefully with the next Kickstarter we can help you get enough money to get a decent mic on your table 😉
Thank you for the comparison pics.
thanks for this PSA. The picture make it super clear to understand the difference. THANK YOU!!
The glossier the finish the harder to see small details. That 8K resin is by far the least glossy so its no surprise you can see more detail. To fix this you need to prime all the comparison models with the same paint.
Also when taking pictures don't use flash, just point 2 lamps on the models from different angles.
Just some friendly suggestions :)
Gotta get some sound deadening foam in the room, my man.
Great comparison and photos. Can't wait to do some 8k printing. Fyi - Sound is really echo-y in this video, compared to others you've done.
quick tip, try to print with the same resin and colors
Wish you'd get a mic on you or closer to you. The audio on this one is pretty bad. It's been getting worse lately, did you switch setups?
For clear experiment better use same color of resin
I don't have a 2k printer anymore so I had to use an old print for that one :(
Great video. Thank you so much for sharing.
Can't tell you how much I appreciate that, thanks a lot Greg, much appreciated
With this I'm totally sold on keeping my pre-order, I've had my doubts since day one, and had my eyes on the anycubic ultra, but seems like this one will do just fine to replace my SM4K
Audio is pretty scuffed in this one chief....
Thanks Greg - great side-by-side! - For me though, it's like the difference between HD and 4K television to my eye. I can see the crisper details on the 8k, but the 4k prints I get are as detailed as my eye can detect and I'm grateful to you for providing the Phrozen 4k's that I use in the last couple of Kickstarters - keep on printing!
Great info thanks. ps. please get a microphone :)
Love the under armor red shirt.
Thank you for your videos. I've learned so much from them. Kepp the good stuff comming!!!
Thanks for the comparison, interesting to see them side by side. The 8k resin seems to really make a difference too surprisingly.
HI, your content is amazing, thanks! Would you consider getting a microphone? The audio is not great sometimes. :)
Well I look forward to whatever advancements they'll put into the next machine I buy in a year, though 2K is pretty great for my minis now.
If details are getting blown out by the flash try spaying a bit of mat varnish thought an air brush, if you do it for all of them it will be really easy to see the difference in details!
Hmmm... prints from an 8K screen! Better make sure I'm watching the video at 4K to capture as much of the detail on that print as possible for a fair comparison! Video uploaded at 1080p (~2k). Well. Guess I'll see an approximation by an upscaling algorithm then.
Seriously, it is amazing that the difference is still so visible - really shows how the tiny improvements on the small scale add up to a major improvement in overall shape.
Thanks Greg, love the comparison. My printer can't come fast enough.
Can you test the 8k resin on a 4k printer? Curious if it still beats Epax Hard.
I was wondering the same thing. Please let me know if he lets you know. Thanks
Thanks for the review. I love what phrozen did, i just wait that they open storage in europe/us, like they said they will do, so that ordering from them doesn’t go half for shipping companies
This is not a 1:1 comparison. The models are all printed in different colours and opacities of resin. Resin makes a massive difference, especially in visual detail depending on translucency. Use the same resin and fresh, non-foggy fep for each printer comparisons if your serious.
If you watch the second comparison, I use the exact same resin on a perfect 4k printer as well as the 8k, and clear NFEP on both, not sure why you think there may have been a "foggy" one :)
@@3dprintingpro212 Ah, ok. I just saw multiple colours and thought it was all different resins again. The difference is small but I can see a bit more sharpness with the 8k printer, looks like the LCD technology is improving all the time to reduce light bleed.
Still, I don't want to rush to get another phrozen printer. I have a phrozen 4k right now and had some bad experiences with the company. I had two parts fail within warranty, and a another part fail after. Phrozen wanted $160 to ship it to me in canada for a $50 out-of-warranty part. Customer support was apathic and put up a smokescreen of pr-bs to deflect responsibility.
@@SaschaUncia Ah that's sorry to hear :(
I’m using the Anycubic Mono 2k and love the results, the new 8k has me very interested! Thanks for the great comparison vid…..my next will be the 8k, unless there is a 16k in development?!
yeah i also have 2k but would lke an 8k when the prices go down! what i wonder is the difference between the 8k and 6k, the xy resolution of 8k phrozen is .022 and the 6k anycubic is 0.34 so curious how they compare. ive heard at that p[oint no longer matter with human eye because too small but still curious!
Thanks for the video very informative , but I would recommend using a wearable microphone for better audio.
Love your channel, but you need a mic. Bad.
I'd love to see a vid where you rank a bunch of different resins. I don't wanna talk out my rear but I don't think you've done one yet?
What layer height(s) did you use for the comparisons?
All at .02mm
Can you please do a video explaining Anti-aliasing, and gray levels. I'm reading about it on Chitubox and understand a little bit, but I think you'd do it more justice than they could.
would you even notice a difference with the primer on?
Hey! Can we get you a lab mic? :)
Thanks for this comparison. Great content as always!
I assume you mean a Lav (Lavalier) mic? Lots of people only go by what they think they hear.
Howdy! I'm new 3D printering and wanted to see if I could get some opinions on which of the two printers would be a better buy. I'm looking at the Phrozen Sonic Mini 8K Resin 3D Printer or the Tribes Edition Anycubic Photon Mono X 6K. Everyone's comments and opinions would be greatly appreciated in helping make a sound choice. Thank you!
Dude those differences between 4k and 8k were almost completely to do with the coloured resin and the way it was interacting with your lighting setup.... a darker print which has been lit correctly looks FAR better than a lighter one because the shadows can be darker which give the illusion of more detail. This is a really REALLY flawed test. You are also using glossy vs matte resin ....
Not true actually, I print on my 4k and 8k printers all the time (and I have 6 4k printers and 3 8k printers) the 8k printers are very clearly better...
testing should be done with the same resin across the board or the viewer cannot make a proper evaluation of what they see
What do you think about the Mono 6k vs the 8k..
Star Trek red shirt!
Have you seen/heard anything about the Hitry Rocket 1 resin printer KickStarter? It's a top down printer that uses no LCD screen or FEP. To be honest it looks kind of gimmicky to me and their promo information is a bit sketchy. For example they compare their machine having no release film and a lifetime cost of $0 in this respect, while other LCD/DLP printers' release films are "300 hours x 60" for a lifetime cost of $1,440 ??? How are those numbers even supposed to mean anything? 300 hours x 60 ?? Then they claim their 'DCLF Light Engine' has a lifespan of 18,000 hours, lifetime cost $0, while the LCD of others have a lifespan of 2,000 hours with a lifetime cost of $650 ?? again very vague figures.
I reached out to them offering an honest review and they totally ignored me :(
@@3dprintingpro212 From what I can see, it was probably the "honest review" bit that put them off 😂😜
I love your videos, but please invest in a clip-on mic or something. The sound is pretty bad.
i have a 2k and a 4k resin machine and depending on the resin i am using and if they are primed or not i have trouble telling the difference. maybe use the same model(you did) but the same resin and then a second set primed.
how do you have almost 50K subscribers but no microphone lol?
Can we see this done using the same resin on each (something like TGM7)?
So the Phrozen 8k mini VS the 8k Mega won't give the same results because the screen size is larger so those 8k pixels are bigger on the bigger screen?
Correct, the actual resolution is different. The Mega 8k does well (43 microns) , but the Mini 8k does better (22 Microns)
@@3dprintingpro212 Interesting, so then is there much point using the "8k resin" on the larger model if it can't take advantage of the supposed smaller particle size and such?
@@feenixb1o7 I only use the 8k resin on my mini8k :)
@@3dprintingpro212 Fair enough, thank you for the insight :)
I just bought a 4k printer. I wish I would have waited. :/
the pre-orders are 20 weeks out right now, so if it makes you feel any better you would be waiting for the phrozen for a while
new printers are getting released every year, they take months to be delivered sometimes and ever more time to be very reliable (they make revisions of them) enjoy your 4K printer and a few years later jump on the higher res that proved themselves on the market
What heigh of figurine?
what layer height do you print at?
.02mm :)
Fun fact: if looked from above the table, you cant see the difference!
I don't like the way of comparing... Different resins, different printer manufacturers.
2k 4k 8k is just screen size not resolution
yes that's why I'm using only "small screens" for this test so it effectively IS resolution, on same (or almost same) sized screens the 2k 4K 8k becomes resolution :)
AUDIO quality is completely lame - please use proper audio equipment!
