  • Obs.:
    H: harmonized notes
    OU: octave unison
    BG: background notes
I always have to praise Masafumi Gotoh's low notes. And he always use these part of his vocal range in such a very nice way, harmonizing in a lot of songs.
If the original version of this album is amazing by itself, in my opinion, this rerecorded version is even more amazing (well, at least for me, because I'm a huge fan of Masafumi Gotoh's lower register XD).
In this album, Gotoh's shows to us 3 octaves, but he has a wider range than that. He is really a very talented singer, being a baritone able to belt up to B4! As I said in another video, I personally prefer his belts up to G#4 (G#4 is, in my opinion, his best belted note), but is a matter of personal taste.
By the way, I got really amazed when I heard his work as Gotch. He explores his range even more! In his song Baby, Don't Cry, he hits insane low notes (down to G1). I went crazy XD
Well, again, this guy is such an amazing singer, with a very wide range =D
I hope you like the video!

Same, kind of sucks that he can't belt anymore like he used to. But that's age and rock music.

Gah I love this. Sorry for comment spamming all your Ajikan vids. At first I was like, "Why did they re-record this" but it's really cool to hear how much his voice has changed since the original recording. It's so much more... open I think? Like richer and more from the chest than up in the head (I know exactly nothing about singing).
Some of it's a bit mixed for me, however. Like- some of the songs do sound better with the original, more nasal voice ("Loop and Loop" in particular is not... my fave on the re-record but it may be because it's probably the most vocally different between recordings or I just feel the more nasally vocals work better for the song) but I looooooove what he does with "Siren" (amplifying the parts of Siren# really made me happy too) and "Last Scene".
Anyway, thank you so much for making this! I love learning about vocal ranges and such.

You're welcome! I'm really happy you are enjoying these videos =D yeah, I also find it very interesting to observe how his voice has changed. Something I really like is the lower harmonies he added (and he did a lot in the more recent albums). Re:Re, for example, was already awesome in the first recording, but the harmonies made it even better.

Sol-fa was their breakout hit album so it would make sense that they would do a re-record

Awesome video! Masafumi has been singing a lot lower recently hasn't he? Before he used to sing higher notes. I still like it of course!

Thanks =D you're right, he's been singing lower than before, and I'm really liking this new style haha I also like the old style as well =D
Since Magic Disk he's been exploring more and more his lower register, what is very noticeable especially in AKFG's 2 more recent albums and in "Good New Times" album (he harmonizes incredible low notes in Baby Don't Cry and Papermoon, I got really surprised).

Shikamaru Kanjiomi The songs I used in this video are from the album Sol-Fa, released in 2016 (with is actually a re-recording). You can hear these songs on spotify. Here's the link to the album: open.spotify.com/album/7HXNyW6RhfYNn6KbWzLUSx?si=cxxQAI0BTO6idT1ONVcDQg.
You can also hear Rewrite here on RUclips on Asian Kung-Fu Generation official channel, as well as other songs from the first version of Sol-Fa =D
