I had to step away for a bit when Chakrabati asked for a greater emphasis on feminism in Varoufakis's book. It it femisist, utterly feminist. Yanis writes about how the Greek people have been ruthlessly exploited and how the structures that enables the exploitation of most of all os us. Fully half of those affected by these attacks are women, therefore the suffering of women are contained and a delt with within the larger human suffering described in the book. Can we just not understand that, must we have these rituals in which we emphasize that the suffering of one group must be extra specially considered? The absolute beauty of Yanis's books is that he explains how we are all united in exploitation and how rebelling against that would benefit us all!

Something quite obvious that has escaped me over the years. Democracy is not only about averaging out outliers. At the same time it is a very effective way of responding to challenges as an institutional and cultural apparatus for crowdsourcing ideas as Yanis pointed out.

Είναι τραγικό όλος ο πλανήτης να σε προσκαλεί σε ανοικτές διαλέξεις και να σε χειροκροτεί και οι ομοεθνείς σου να σε βρίζουν και να μην πιστεύουν σε εσένα. I regret that I ignored Varoufakis for too long for he is an economic intellectual. I'm very cynical of Fin/Econ "expert" especially the one with LSE, OxCam, Harvard or Princeton deg.
Yanis is an economist but cut from quite distinguished material.

Forgive me but isn’t the interviewer supposed to ask questions then listen to the interviewee? This woman is so full of herself and her own voice whilst attempting to cajole the audience, that the actual interview is lost.
The audience are there to listen to him and perhaps learn from him - not her!!

He expresses very clearly what a lot of people feel and are very angry about. Hence the brexit vote, for some people being regarded as peasantry with no right to democracy was just too much.

Surely it's easier to "democratise" (in the way Yanis is advocating) a single nation - the UK, say - than the whole of the EU? This seems an inconsistency in Yanis' argument.

great discussion, Q&A, biography, I don't like Shami because she threw an honorable man Phil Shiner trying to bring justice for victims of the Iraq war crime under the bus, that being said great stuff Yanis, although I'm sorry Brexit and the Lexit campaign won and leaving the EU means leaving the single market and customs union, a Soft Brexit meaning staying in the EU just not saying it officially and good can come out of leaving the EU like nationalizing major industries and most likely more of a Green revolution that is if a Corbyn or Green government can get into power though the latter is too committed to the EU. I do support EU left reforms but we also should think outside the box and build a better alternative to the EU. and I'm so glad Yanis called out the Guardian, New York Times, and the smears on Corbyn and the very British deep state coup being unleashed on him which Corbyn sadly has only been an appeaser and him and people he put in high positions himself included, Momentum and Novara Media have thrown under the bus and have have been slandering comrades accused of anti-Semitism when in fact they are simply critics of Israel, some are Jews who are critics of Israel and many Jewish and non-Jewish have an honorable record of anti-racism and racial/social justice campaigns and anti-imperialism. this and their shameful Anti-Russia hysteria.

'' my advice to both parties, but primarily to the government it was the governments remit to begin the negotiations '' 20.04 speaks volumes as to the political logic of Varafoukis . Now essentially seeing himself as an advisor he warns the Tory nationalist reactionary anti working class government of Teresa May how to by definition 'succeed' in its negotiations for Brexit .
Varoufakis's 'nominal and formal' defence of Europe , is not only coached in terms of an essential arbitrariness as to the consequences of Brexit , but one that actually comes with no analysis or political evaluation of Europe as a capitalist system in the context of world economy and its debt crisis.
What is completely lacking from Varoufakis is any real understanding of the contradictions of world economy that pose a dire crisis for the world working class. On the one hand Europe is to be criticised over Greece , but to be defended seemingly over Brexit. But hey nothing really matters , the working class can advance its cause under either system. His is the voice and the political logic of the pseudo left that seeks to mount a campaign of populism with a completely arbitrary position as to the objective reality the working class faces .
This political gibberish is not only to be found coming from the larynx of Varoufakis , it is coming from the populist Melenchon in France , as well as Jeremy Corbyn, John McDonnell, Bernie Sanders , and Ocasia Cortez.
I urge all here to read the WSWS on all these political obscurantists and charlatans, starting with this: www.wsws.org/en/articles/2016/02/15/varo-f15.html

Feminism is an interpretation of life. All interpretations are lopsided, and therefore fundamentally in error. We must understand what it is to be human, not from a male nor a female perspective, but what actually is. Only then do problems cease to be.
