Nuno Bettencourt is one of the most underrated guitarists EVER. That guy can SHRED. Extreme got lost with the end of hair metal but their 2nd album Extreme 2: Pornograffiti is great. 3 Sides to Every Story is pretty darn good too.

I'd say Nuno is definitely not underrated, not among guitar players that is or even most musicians who know who he is...but I agree he IS highly underrated in the sense that the non-musician "normies" don't know who he is. I mean everybody on earth knows who EVH is(was). Kinda the same thing with John Sykes. That dude is one of the greatest of all time, except nobody know him. Very glad to see that you've reacted to some Damn Yankees and now Extreme. Please check out their new song called "Rise"....it just was dropped yesterday...new record coming in June.
3 Sides to Every Story is one of my favorite albums. I kept the CD in the car and must have listened to it 100 times. The music is excellent, and for a "metal" band, the philosophy in the lyrics is profound. I saw them when they toured this album at a local club. Nuno's playing is beyond words. He and Gary meld perfectly, but one should remember to praise the rest of the band, whose performance was amazing.
Harri thanks for doing more Extreme. The singer is Gary Cherone & the guitarist is Nuno Bettencourt. They are a very diverse & talented band. They do a Sinatra type song called " When I First Kissed You". Check it out.
Since I posted my original comment they have released a fantastic new album Rise. Give it a listen if you haven't, my favorite track is Rebel but the guitar solo on the title track is out of this world.
@cjpew I've heard the new album and #rebel" is one of my favorites also. Did you see the video of "Mask" that just came out? That's another one of my favorites. I was properly introduced to Nuno when Rick Beato did a video on the "Rise" solo. He also did an amazing interview with Nuno. If you haven't seen it, it's a must. The man is captivating. His love and passion for music sent me to the "Rise" video and I had my mind blown. I've never been taken with a guitar player until Nuno. I'm completely mesmerized by his playing. My eventual full out Extreme fandom started with my Nuno obsession, especially when I found he was that gorgeous hot guy with the long black hair that I remember. Lol. But I began to appreciate all aspects of the band from their musicianship to their harmonies to their chemistry. Just recently I gained a full appreciation of Gary as a singer. His vocals are stunning on the new album. And having seen Steven Tyler do "More Than Words" with Nuno, all I could think was No. That song only works with Gary and Nuno and their magical connection. I love the diversity in Extreme's music.
Yes, Mask is another great one. Nuno is so talented, not just a great guitarist but sings and plays piano pretty damn good too. And no question about the hot factor 😄@DanalynTuthill-yl4hd
Gary Cherone did Van Halen III. The album wasn't that big a success but he was probably the best technical vocalist Van Halen had. Paul Geary on drums and Pat Badger on bass

Each one "tending" their own (identical) grills! (So, I figured that SOMEBODY would have been expecting food to be hot and edible...)

Every song on that album was equally good. It was a concept album. Truly brilliant, in my opinion. Worth a listen. It was my favorite album by them. It was definitely the most adventurous and complex album. Tons of different instruments on this album. Different styles. It was a lot of fun. It felt kind of like a Broadway show at times. And I’m not usually into that type of stuff. But this was amazing. Highly recommended you check out that whole album start to finish. Being a concept album, you have to listen to it in order start to finish.
I think I mentioned in your first Extreme reaction that they had more funk to them than the other (hard)rock bands back then. So it’s not odd that you mention RHCP as a comparison. You would be pleasantly surprised hearing Faith No More I think. 😉
Man... You seem to totally get what this band is about without knowing much about them. I don't know what it was. It wasn't packaged or marketing correctly to everybody else. This band should have been one of the top 5 of all time. ... it defies logic. Even the deep tracks on their albums are great. It's such a shame that they weren't bigger than they are. The funny thing is that they still all look very young and their recent music is killer also. It's one of the things that should have been much more than it was.

I love Extreme, so many great songs. My recommendations for next ones - Get the Funk Out and Ghost.
As a relatively new fan of Extreme's, I love both songs, particularly "Ghost". More Gary and Nuno magic!

The outro was another version of "More Than Words" with the acoustic guitar & those nice harmonies.
