The British didn't really have much influence at all in the area except that they allowed for the citizens of Hong Kong to maintain their own sense of governmental freedom from the ccp. because cape town isnt an independent state but hong kong is. due to the 2019 political movement to defend against the protestors, ccp made a set of rules as well as naming hong kong “hong kong china”. plus it’s already been like this ever since hong kong participated in olympics.
