This is THE song that started my Incubus obsession when I was 13 years old! I can still remember seeing the video for Drive on good old MTV2 and as soon as the song started with the hands drawing themselves, I was hooked! I was obsessed with animation as a kid and this video just hit at the right time for me! Once the song got going and I heard Brandon’s vocal, that really was it - I had to know more about this band. Of course listening to the rest of Make Yourself blew my tiny mind and I knew I had a new favourite band 😊.
I have been pretty nervous about covering this song as it holds such a special place in my heart, but hopefully I have done it some justice. The solo section in partictular is incredibly fun to play and I think I’m right in using a slide to get closer to the tone on the record.
In a pure self indulgent moment, I also decided to add my own solo at the end just like Mike used to when they played the song live a few years back.

hey bro you don't need my opinion, the way you smiled after that slide section, you know you did it justice! it sounds amazing and very accurate to the original! but you made it your own with the solo at the end. 12/10

Everyone has waited to see this one for a while! Make Yourself really wouldn’t be the same without it (at least to me). I work for a Grocery Store and everyone always thinks this song is so “kid friendly” and my reaction is always “go check out Fungous Amongous, SCIENCE, & everything else) 😂

Edit: I just thought of this a while ago, do you think Mike still has any of his MY/MV era PRS guitars? I know he doesn’t play them anymore and I can’t help but wonder if he sold them off or auctioned them. I know Dirk Lance sold his Fretless WarWick Streamer bass a few years ago around $7K on reverb.

I guess he must have some? I’m sure I remember seeing the main archtop hollowbody that he used for morning view on the livestream they did back at the house on a guitar stand as like a monument to the album. Other than that, I have no idea what happened to his PRS guitars from science or make yourself 🤷🏻♂️

Mate, I don't know what to write, it's honestly hard for me to comprehend. That was flawless and was definitely worth the long wait. Your expressions say it all. And that solo at the end was the cherry on top. It's such a fun song to play, one of the first Incubus songs I learnt to play, but this cover was something else. Well done my dude 👌
PS: Do you know if Mike used a slide on the recording for that part? Because it sounds amazing the way you executed that bridge section 🤘

It’s a guess that he used a slide to be honest but without it, it just doesn’t sound right. Sliding up to notes just doesn’t sound the same with your fingers 🤷🏻♂️😁

😁 I did my best to replicate it but I’d say mine is a lot brighter - Mike has a very percussive sound for Drive that I couldn’t quite figure out. I’m happy how it turned out though 😊. Thanks for watching!
