I've only really dived into their discography recently after years of knowing their earlier singles. I remember their videos on MTV back then. Now I'm loving the new album and changed my perspective on how I viewed them. I felt they had gone fully pop by this point but so far it's been a beautiful journey. I need more time with the album to make my mind up. But losing my mother to cancer on June 30th, 2021, really changed my life. Saw bits of the Anthony Fantano interview and confirmed what I felt about that one song.
In my case, it was a one parent household, I was 28 and she was 62. I have no family left except my brother. Everyone is either dead or basically dead to me (backstabbing family for money, stealing, manipulation, etc). So yeah, this has been beautiful especially the song about losing a loved one.
