I just worked with a reactive dog today (people and dogs). As in most cases, it wasn't the dog's fault. The owner never established rules, boundaries and limitations, is scared that a "no" hurts her dog's feelings, and has been in the friend-zone for the past 12 years.
If owners don't establish their leadership and prove that they're in control of every situation, the dog feels the need to take over and to fill that lack of leadership. A world without a leader is a chaotic world in a dog's eyes, and a chaotic world is dangerous.
The worst things, owners can do, is to give too much human love and too much freedom to a dog who isn't ready for it yet. Those are the main ingredients for nervous, fearful dogs.

The friend zone! 😂 brilliant way of putting it.
I agree it usually is something that could be avoided but I’ve come across some reactive dogs with owners that have done it all right, the dog is just destined to become a bit of a nob 😅
