It is not possible to put SRK in buckets like this. He started with films like Maya Memsab. But then he also did a Raju Ban gaya. He changed the definition of a hero through Baazigar and Darr. He brought back the sweet romance through DDLJ and KKHH. He showed his subtle side in Swades and Veer Zara ..... honestly this can go on and on. It is convenient to label SRK as a romantic hero. But in reality, he has always done different things in his career.

As much as I respect this conversation, it's kind of double standard to ask Shahrukh to bring back that romance. Till Zero, he was asked to let go of these romantic roles and focus on something else and now they want him to bring that romance again! Where's the logic in this? He's 57. He has to chart out a new path of action for his career to sustain. It's not about action films as well. With Dunki, he's gonna be that sweet, charming guy on screen again. It's a good mixture of films he has lined up.

Be it abs or not. I dont care. He is doing everything for us. He never went after superstardom. It came to him on its own. I disagree with the point that his stardom has limitations if he can't change the course of films. He has successfully changed the course, thrice. First as the anti-hero of early 90s. Then as the romantic guy from mid 90s and then in late 00s after Chakde. At some point, you do run out of these tickets and have to listen to the markets as well

Infact, I would like to see a Salman or an Aamir try to change the course of the indsutry. Aamir's formula is as old as Lagaan. Salman changed the course once in 2010 by riding on remakes and the southern formula of massy films. Akshay brought in the wave of nationalism. These are stars from late 80s and early 90s.

I disagree with almost everything that they said here.
They said that Khan starting catering to the superstardom and mass audiences post 2007.
Let's just look at the movies Khan did and decide for yourself:
    1. 2007 - Om Shanti Om and Chak De India. Was Chak De catering to mass and superstar or the male audience they refer to?? In OSO, they themselves agreed that it was a tongue in cheek take on the Bollywood industry of the times that basically said that a starson with a six pack and no talent, could still become the big star. How was it catering to mass? How is that catering to male audience or the superstar? It was all exactly opposite of that. A star of SRK's stature is making a complete fool of himself in OSO as Om Kapoor the star and making the audience chuckle n entertain. That's not pandering to superstardom.
    2. 2008 - Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi
He made Surinder Sahni, the meek ordinary middle class guy win over the leading lady n the audiences alike, while 'the' Raj, who symbolised the glossy exterior n flamboyance, lost. How is that pandering to superstardom or male audience... How ?
    3. 2009 - he had an extended cameo in Billu. Not going to comment on this 20 minute appearance.
    4. 2010 - My Name Is Khan
He played a guy with Asperger's syndrome and won critical acclaim for it. You would be nuts if you think this is catering to superstardom or male audience or exterior or whatever.
    5. 2011 - Ra. One and Don 2
He tried something new again with India's first full fledged superhero genre in RaOne and stylized action in Don 2.
    6. 2012 - Jab Tak Hai Jaan
A Yash Chopra romance with a flimsy storyline but Khan stood tall as Samar Anand and grounded the narrative in each n every scene n made the audiences fall in love with him again. Khan played Samar differently, one with brooding intensity, maturity and cool. It was a swoony Yash Chopra love story. There was no action there.
    7. 2013 - Chennai Express
Khan attempted something different again. He went all out with a complete madcap comedy. It had the love story too but that Chennai Express Rahul was completely different from his earlier Raj n Rahul. In that film, in one scene, the leading lady kicks him out of the bed... Is that pandering to superstar. The movie had mass action because it was a Rohit Shetty film.
    8. 2014 - Happy New Year- A Farah Khan dance based comedy masala film. No action here too.
    9. 2015 - Fan, Dilwale
Rohit Shetty masala film. It had some action but much less than other Rohit films plus it had Kajol kicking some ass too.
    10.2016 - Fan, Dear Zindagi
Fan was Khan's best performance ever and he did completely out of the blue stuff. Again, he played something very different in DZ as Dr Jehangir Khan, a psychiatrist I guess who was kind, mature, gentle, wise. How is that pandering to male audience or to the superstardom???? How??????
    11. 2017 - Raees, Jab Harry Met Sejal
In Raees, he played an earthy character in a bootlegger with a heart of gold. It was a good mass entertainer, had real good believable action pieces. It was very different from what Khan had ever done before.
JHMS - Again different stuff. It was an edgy love story. Khan for the first time played a womanizer ... First time ever. He played a lost, lonely, bruised n battered tour guide whose only cure was an unassuming simpleton like Sejal. How is that pandering to superstardom???
    12. 2018 - Zero
He played a vertically challenged character n owned the role. Need I say more??
So, basically Khan has done something different every single time but these people just can't see it. They just want to put their own perceptions and assumptions on his filmography and there is absolutely no truth to their words.

I agree, in all the 90's Rahul and Raj SRK acted as were just a bit annoying and pretty similar. Even before oso he did try different roles like Devdas (as a NRI who is easily angry and sad in the second half, different from his typical Rahul and Raj) and Veer Zara (as a calm and gentle lover ) . They say that in Swades he is a lover boy but I don't think so and definitely not like the Rahul and Raj type.2006 was Don and KANK ( a nassersistic and disappointed guy) were he played completely different roles unlike his lover boy ones.

In my opinion he's always been this character driven artist. A large chunk of his career was painted with some beautiful romantic roles but you could see him easily divulge in others even during those times. Movies like Swades being good examples of that. So now the movies he's selected are presenting him in this light but his core remains the same. To adapt to the spirit of the character and plunge into it neck deep.

I don't agree that there have been different versions of SRK like 2.0 or 3.0 as such. He has always struck a fine balance between different genres ever since he debuted. If you see his career trajectory there was a darr between raju ban gaya gentleman and ddlj, there was a Don between KANK and rab ne Bana di jodi. Basically there have always been films like anjaam, baazigar, ram jaane, darr, fan, raees at one end of the spectrum and then there were films like pardes, k2h2, dil toh pagal hai, veer Zaara etc. at the other end of the spectrum. Pathan is no different in that regard and it comes in the same broader category of action oriented slick edgy films like Don, Don 2, Ra One etc. Dunki again comes in the same broader category of light drama films like Swades, dear zindagi, rab ne Bana di jodi etc. So this talk about SRK 2.0 , 3.0 doesn't hold much water honestly.

One thing I must say is, they ignored the fact that what kind of films were made post 2007.. Whatever they are are calling SRK 2.0, does RNBDJ fall in that phase of SRK? No. It's a 2008 movie and unique in all therms.. One way to sum up the whole conversation is they don't want SRK to be versatile and want him to be romantic.. Then corms people who say SRK is romancing actresses half of his age, whereas they have no issues when Rajnikanth do so.. This interviews fails to acknowledge the experiments SRK did in this period Ra One, Fan and Zero.. Among these these 3 film, Fan and Zero is nowhere close to high testosterone films.. The ultimate point is, people have such high expectation of SRK which is not a cake of direct generation of directors.. If Zero was hit, we would have got tons of new experimental films for sure.. U can't predict SRK, he is versatile and u should appreciate it instead of calling it lack of his stardom...That was the biggest lol claim of the interview... As if he is the only one who makes everything of his film.. Look at the current phase of bollywood and he has not done remakes since the beginning of his career.. Expected little broader perspective from this interview, therefore I give it 2* out of 5.. 🐸

There are so many really interesting things that SRK could do now other than action. Personally I would love to see him do a Bela Lugosi style Dracula, a courtroom drama, a detective movie... and I would give anything for one more romantic movie. I want SRK do an age appropriate love story with one of his 90s heroines. He’s aging like a fine wine and he’s a better actor now than he has ever been before. I really believe he could make something beautiful and epic like Veer-Zaara or Jab Tak Hai Jaan if he got the chance. Just give him a character close to his own age that fits his beloved archetype and an actress like Kajol or Madhuri or even Aish and watch the sparks fly. I’m sure Adi could write something lovely. He’s already written at least 5 of SRKs best love stories. Maybe even Karan if Adi won’t do it.
I’d understand if SRK doesn’t want to, but to be honest, there will never be another lover like him. Nobody in 30 years has even come close. He is and will always be the king of romance, and, for me, romance dies with him. I’m not ready to let go of that yet.

It would be so frustrating for SRK to listen ppl asking him to do the romantic roles again, cuz when he was doing everyone was like ki wahi same cheez baar baar kar raha hai, usko kuch alag karna chahiye when he tries something hatke, doing films like fan, zero, dear zindagi, those films don't do well at the box office, and now he is doing something massy, still ppl have problem.
And my pov is ki aaj ke din audience is not much into romantic movies, everything has it's own time, now ppl want to see mass action, or anything which gives them adrenaline rush. And he's 57, he can't be doing romantic films, boycott gang is just there finding his mistakes just troll him.

I quite disagree with this analysis. Om Shanti Om came out in 2007. Up until Pathaan, SRK was making remarkable movies like My Name is Khan, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Billu, Dear Zindagi, Zero and Fan. None of these movies had him showing off his abs. They were fascinating, mature films that showed him developing as an actor, departing from the earlier mold. Now in his 50s we get to see him as the buff action hero, a role he has said he always wanted to play, in the kind of films that his kids like to watch. As an older woman, I love seeing this great actor pushing himself to be at his peak, physically, even while joking around about aging. I hope it inspires us all.

I can’t agree more that Shah Rukh is now only catering to men. As a woman who saw Shah Rukh in her adolescence in Dil toh Pagal hai, kkhh, Ddlj, pardes and dil se he is my unsaid unfound hero. Now the only thing I watch of his is how he speaks in interviews and sees off people at his parties. I miss my shah rukh ☹️I miss my Aamir from qsqt, dil, dil hai ke manta nehi 😢I miss my Salman 😢 from Maine pyaar kiya. These action hero roles Ajay and Akshay and others can do but I want my khans to b that guy who they were in the late 80s and 90s 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢

There are a number of factors that forces an actor to take different shapes. If he or she continues to do the same type of roles, we don't like that. Also, we don't appreciate them doing romantic roles after a certain age. We criticize them for not doing Swades or Chak De India types of movies, but at the same time when they come up with these kinds of movies, we don't support them.

U know post covid I think there's no market for romantic comedy films in the main stream.. we have so many streaming services. People now only go to the theatre when they wna be wowed. All these tamil films in 2022 have showed that to us. I think That's what srk is targeting. I would gladly watch a ddlj or k3g at home under sheets with a coffee in my hand. But I would definitely go to a cinema hall to watch bahubali or rrr or pathaan

Surprisingly shallow analysis for 2 reasons :
    1. The so-called SRK 2.0 after Om Shanti Om rarely played the "muscular and masculine roles". After 2007, he did Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, My Name is Khan, Dear Zindagi, Fan, Zero, Jab Harry Met Sejal.
    2. The critics said that SRK should stop playing romantic roles.
SRK has fans who expect different things from him. The fact is that the majority of the fans now want to see him as a superstar in a larger-than-life role.

There are no 2.0 or 3.0. There is only one SRK who has always been the same and who is for some reason unable to understand what the audience wants. He is still perceived as a Romantic hero. Also, he is considered to be the biggest superstar ever but looking at his performances both as an actor or at the box-office, his record is pretty much average. There are more of his bad films and bad performances than his good ones. Nonetheless, it is not that he isn't a good actor but even a good actor needs a good director. Just look at his best performances, all of them had very good directors. The problem is SRK still looks at the numbers rather than the content.

Until the director, producers, critics, and tastemakers genuinely elevate the young generation as the new stars of the era, the primary ticket purchasers will still look to the stars of yesteryear to define cinema for them. The same ppl who were the lead directors, producers, and critics in the 90s and 00s are still the primary players today, so naturally they want to cling to the familiar bankable stars. They need to instead expand their imagination and inject life into new blood.

Exactly, the other industries are flourishing with talent and creativity, passion with the influx of younger generation of actors and directors. In Bollywood that’s not the case the same few people control the industry and suppress new talent.

And u can't be doing the same roles considering he's now 57 . And today the audience wants to see never ever seen content on the big screen. So, whatever he's choosing now will be great anyhow. Respectfully I disagree. I think a star who is also a good actor/perfomer always chooses to do all kinds of films. We can't expect a 57 years old guy to do romance!! If he consciously took an effort to cater to SRK 2.0 audience, then it's his choice. I'm his fan still I hated his recent films. If it's a good movie, then I don't have the baggage of charming SRK in my mind. Shahid, Ranbir are also following similar pattern though

SRK should never ever do another romantic movie ever again. Next year SRK should do some serious films or character roles, or maybe do a movie without any song and dance. Suspense thriller, heavy drama where he does not do over acting. More movies like Sawdes/Chak de/MNIK. Character roles not romantic hero/action hero/comedy hero.

He's 57. He can't keep playing a hero romancing the women like he used to. I mean - do we want to see him chatting up 50yr old women? Would that sell tickets? So he has had to find another niche. And, actually, he never wanted to do romantic films -- he ALWAYS wanted to be an action hero. But, yes, they could stop filming his abs in every dance sequence - that's kinda boring now -- especially when they use make-up to enhance the muscles -- that just looks ridiculous.
