The two main reasons I didn't get a bigscreen VR is the reported glare and smaller sweet spot. How does this compare to the BigScreen in those areas and comfort? What resolution does it render in if your PC hardware is not up to par with 8k yet? For instance my current Vive pro two will not render full resolution if needed. My current setup is a 4080 and 7800X3d. while great for the Pro 2 I do not think that is up to 8k gaming at a stable 60-90fps so If I got this headset I'm curious what actual resolution it would default to. As always you have the best vr reviews and very trusted opinions. Thanks!
yes i got the bigscreen and returned it because the overall experience with quest 3 was kinda better even tho i do really miss some things like microoled, very good display and it was uncomfortable for me asf just the material for me
Comfort on Bigscreen is not that good, little discomfort on my skin and hate squeezing on my skin to wear it but not halo style psvr 2 like MaganeX. FOV and Brightness on Beyond is very very satisfying so im glad MeganeX is even better. UEVR is my main reason buying this and lot of Unreal games supports HDR so big big plus for Meganex!

We don't need higher resolution headsets, we need wider FOV!!! FOV is way more immersive than more pixels. Give us a 180 degree FOV. I want full immersion!
180 isn't necessary, but like 140 or 150. would be good. Also FoV is very hard to do without making a bulky headset; especially to maintain good image clarity. like Pimax has decent FoV but neither particularly clear image nor compact/lightweight headset.
I have an 8kX and a Reverb G2. FOV is good, but I still prefer the G2 for comfort and visual quality. I use G2 90% and 8kX 10%. I expect this to be same, but even better and more comfortable.
These 4k4k headsets are pretty much the end game when it comes to resolution. After this, resolution starts to have diminishing gains, unless the FOV also increases.
Of course the FOV has to keep increasing until it matches what humans can see. Until then, the tech is sort of a stopgap... Always have to imagine wearing a helmet with bad field of view. Decent helmets block less of the view...
Agreed that it will be diminishing returns after this for this FoV , though, I'm sure it will still look better at higher resolution- it just won't be an insane leap ahead like 2kx2k headsets vs this. Unless of course, for higher FoV, yeah.
Looks like MeganeX is gonna be my headset. I've been salivating over BSB and reading about it, but the fact that I cant share it is actually the biggest issue for me, not so much the glaring issue people talk about. So I was hoping that someone solves that. And here we are. Now about the MeganeX negatives mentioned in previous MRTV streams: - The low brightness - not an issue for me. I have tried VR a couple of times, but I do not own any VR headset. I haven't spend much time in VR, and I've been looking for a perfect opportunity to get into it. But honestly, from what I've seen between panel technology in the industry, I knew from the start of VR, when Oculus CV1 first came out, that having an LCD vs OLED will make a noticeable difference, just like in the monitor/tv space. So I just kept waiting for VR to adopt it. - No foveated rendering - Yes that's a problem for lower end PCs, but I'd first build a high-end PC and then get into VR. This way, MeganeX would have matured enough to be a great experience for new users.
It's surprising how slow VR tech development has slowed. We should have been VERY far past the OLED standard for VR by now and exploring better tracking, fov, etc... Wonder if Valve can figure something out.
Just adding inside out tracking would cause more purchases cuz no one really wants to have to buy base stations and have them locked into one room. I know I don't that's what kills the Megan x and the big screen VR for me.

If this were a thing, I'd have no reason to hold on to my PSVR2 anymore. If Q4 has 2x the power as Q3, combined with Eye tracking & Foveated Rendering, wouldn't that get games looking as good Nintendo Switch? Because currently, Q3 games at their best look like they're somewhere in between PS2 & PS3.

Then you start complaining about compression via wifi. Is impossible to satisfy every user. If you need wireless then stick to meta quest lineup. This is targeting a different audience.
Quest 3 is already nearly the perfect wireless headset. I don't think having 4k per eye makes any sense if you are going to down-sample and compress it. If you like wireless headsets then Quest 3 is the best far and away. I tried Quest 3 and although the compression was much better than Quest2, I still found it to be grainy/blurry and washed out compared to my Reverb G2 even with USB at 950 mbps. So I am willing to use wires for the visual upgrade. I'm not even a simmer and I use a wire pulley system to make the wire acceptable for me. Extremely small light weight comfortable HMD need to have NO battery NO cameras and use external tracking like BSB and this Meganex8k. That is the only way to get them ~100 grams. You like compression artifacts and lag?
only cable for simulators
Otherwise you are just making another Quest3 (but probably worse if you don't have the resources that META has).
Need GOOD high brightness. 1000 nits atleast in hdr content with highlights
