I was wondering why that squad car, at the very end, was rushing over to the other side of the crash. I presumed nobody had been in the squad car that was crushed since the description did not mention it at all, nor a passenger in the truck.
After watching a news report about it I found out that the dude was being chased in the first place for trying to run over his own daughter with that truck, then pulled out his long gun when the cops showed up. He had been shooting out his window during the chase. At the time of the crash there really was an officer in that crushed car! So all those cops opened fire at the truck, which the police cut out of this video for legal reasons. Once the guy gave up and they had him in cuffs, they scrambled over there to retrieve the officer from his crushed squad. Both the officer and the loser who did this were in stable condition as of the time of the crash report about a month ago.
What kind of a man tries to run over his own daughter and then purposefully crashes into those cops? I do not know why the description in this video says the charges are felonious assault and domestic violence. Clearly both incidents were attempted murder. And one cop may never be able to work as a cop again after his injuries. I hope both the daughter and cop are ok. I will be looking for any updates to find out if those charges are the only ones. They can't be. It's too easy on him.

      One count of Vehicular Assault

One count of Aggravated Possession of Drugs
It is looking like he will spend the next 20-40 years in jail and he is already old so potentially the rest of his life.
He also is being held without bond so he isn't roaming the streets while awaiting trial.

It kills me how in so many of these chases, “backup “ cops could be all but lining the side of the road, but then it looks more like a welcome celebration than the attempted apprehension of a dangerous suspect. Seriously, they find a nice place to park, have a bite of .lunch, catch up on the game, and oh, looks like there is a police chase……driving by me. They get em.

The video description says that he lost control and crashed into the police cars. Earlier in the video, he was shooting at the police vehicles on the side of the road. Then, he aimed his truck at and narrowly missed the next group of police vehicles on the roadside. The next group of police vehicles was the group that he plowed into. That was intentional attempted murder.

It always boggles me when I see wayyyyy too many cops on one scene. But I see it a lot. So there has to be a reason. I would hate to be the person who has to be in charge of all that chaos at the end. There is a need for traffic control, witness statements, all that nasty paperwork, clean up and towing, crime scene forensics, and all that. Would have to figure out who needs to do what and who needs to go back to regular duties. But first you have to count them all! And I think there were at least 2 agencies involved. What a mess.

On scene LT or SGT is the one who decides that, but before anyone is sent back/cleared off the scene, there is a long list of things that need to be done:
      Is the suspect in cuffs?
Are there more injured parties involved?
      Was fire/ems requested?
      Is traffic blocked off?
When all aforementioned questions have been answered, then comes the who's who and what vehicle is their's. After all that is figured out, that is when the extras are sent around to direct traffic, take photos, get witness statements, assist other officers with cleanup, setting up triage area(s), searching vehicle(s) involved, making sure fire/ems have a safe and easily maneuverable route to the scene, sometimes the extras have to set up a safe landing zone for life flight (flight for life, air ambulance, MedAir, etc), then finally the extra officers might have a chance of being relieved from the scene and allowed to go back to their normal patrol areas.

Since about 1980, most modern law enforcement have ordered their police cars with automatic Siren shut off switches that activate when the cars gear shift is placed in PARK. Today that’s basically a free option that would make every police officer, citizen and suspect a little safer because it greatly improves communications. Also reduces lawsuits after the cops smoke some poor almost blind uninvolved pre-med student with bad hearing who was simply about to show the cops how clean his AR-15 was when they shot him dead for no reason, other than he couldn’t comply with their commands only because he couldn’t hear them. $$$$$$$
