It's like a final message. It doesn't mean anything for someone who's OK, I know, but for someone that isn't OK, it may bring dark feelings.

@@FoolishNobody Everytime I felt like I should give up on life I came back to this song. It was my farewell hymn. To me, it makes a lot of sense. I mean, it is a good song, but it is dark. Not like the song will kill someone, but if people that feel like taking their own lives come here, what I believe must happen pretty often, it's nice to have a number there to help them just in case.
Don't usually listen to music this heavy, but there's something really special about this song that i can't put my finger on.

Born in 2000 and having a divorced parents. Being with my dad he always listened to rock and sad rock but this song always stuck with me and I love it haha. I’m not much of a screaming fan but I’ve grown to appreciate it in this song but when he’s singing all soft it really is just so beautiful and one of my favorite songs to sing and hear by how it sounds

After listening to this song literally thousands of times since its inception in 2001, I’ve finally come up with a cohesive interpretation of the lyrics:
It’s basically about how not taking responsibility for your actions can lead to suicidal ideations. The perspective of the lyrics transition between the suicidal individual and System of a Down.
The verses are about the mistakes that are made by the individual, where each mistake seems minor but truly has much deeper significance. System of a Down is harshly criticizing them by saying “you wanted to”. As in by not taking responsibility for the their life, they are enabling their own demise.
“I don’t think you trust in my self righteous suicide” is the individual saying that their suicide is warranted because the life is unfair or the world is against them when really they are the problem. “I cry when angels deserve to die” This is SOAD stating that because of this self righteous mentality, maybe the individual does deserve to die. Sad, but again the harsh reality.
The bridge is the individual kills themself “father into your hands I command my spirits”. And blames the same father (god) for their demise (“why have you forsaken me”) when it is really their fault as reiterated in the absolutely gorgeous outro which really reflects the sadness of the situation.
Now if I could only figure out jet pilot...

Listened to this song in the gym and started tearing up at the “Father why have You forsaken me”. When I think about Jesus on the cross, suffering, questioning why he had to suffer….all for our sins, that we may have a chance at redemption and eternity in Heaven…….it’s so beyond powerful.
I think we have all felt suffering and looked up to the sky and asked God: Why? Why have you forsaken us to suffer this pain? But we always make it through. Keep fighting you guys, there will be a light at the end of the tunnel. Please don’t lose hope.
