    Car looks so ahead of its time for 2000. My S430 still operates like brand new. Love this generation

      Can’t believe it had push button start and adaptive cruise control in 2000 very innovative.

      I'll politely disagree about the looks. I've seen some that look quite old. And the headlights crazing and turning yellow is nice after a while. Plenty of poor build quality in this generation. The W140 was the last true Benz with overengineering. This one was a failure in comparison. That's been proven over time. You see very few of these still on the road, all are at the wreckers.

    I don’t get why this car gets so much hate. These cars especially 2003 and up are solid cars. If you take care of a Mercedes they will take care of you

  • @FerrariCarr
    @FerrariCarr 2 года назад +28

    They pretty much stuck with this overall design from then on. All S-Class models after this looked so ambiguous between each other that it was difficult to tell which generation each one was, from a glance. Even though this gen is the most hated among enthusiasts, I think it looks timeless.

    I remember a purple one on the cover of Dupont Registery in 2000. I thought it was a stunning car and loaded with tech. It might not have been as reliable as the W140 but it set the standard for all others cars in this class.

  • @DrCharlesMontague
    @DrCharlesMontague 4 месяца назад +2

    People moan about the maintenance on these, but they don’t consider how state of the art and complex these cars were. The powertrains are extremely solid. The air suspension is a pain, but you have to bite the gold bullet and fix it properly instead of piecing it together haphazardly the way third, fourth, and fifth owners tend to. Also, learn how to deal with stuff like cranky headlight modules on your own as much as you can, as that stuff becomes super expensive at a shop.

    The mercedes w220 had an impressive technology, but it did not have the same fit and finish as the previous generation. Also, the 2000 Mercedes S500 was incredibly unreliable due to the electronics problems, and air suspension. The air suspension was incredibly expensive to fix.

    Why does anyone need twin spark plugs to fire each cylinder 🤔?

    • @tylermacconnell217
      @tylermacconnell217 Месяц назад

      Because certain engines sacrifice optimal spark plug position in exchange for larger valves. Having two plugs allows an efficient burn from plugs that are not in the ideal spot. It’s pretty common…all the Hemi V8 engines have two; so do Ford 6.2L V8 engines.

  • @InvestBetter.
    @InvestBetter. Месяц назад

    This generation never recovered from two major issues:
    1. It had a tough act to follow (The W140)
    2. It was all about cost-cutting, probably because the W140 was over-built, and ran over budget
    This generation has the lowest resale values of any S-Class

  • @Forge17

    I cant figure how, but the 2000 model’s front end looks better than the 2003 refresh. Bigger headlights? It has to be something, it’s even more noticeable in person. It’s a shame because the 03 refresh fixed the horrid reliability issues of the 2000 model.
