    Do you ride flats or clips? Let us know in the comments!

      clips i find are a lot faster, being able to manipulate the bike more lifting and twisting. only issue when paired with the weight of an emtb, you come off and cant clip out fast enough, that weight is gonna destroy your ankles/knees. personal preference i ride mtb - clipless(crankbrothers), emtb - flats(burgtec).

    Personally, myself coming from a motocross/dirt bike motorcycle background I have always used flat pedals on my mountain bike bicycles. My dad used clip-in pedals on his mountain bike bicycle for 1 ride but after crashing 3 times on that ride he immediately went back to flat pedals.

    For pure comfort and convenience, you cannot beat flat pedals. I was an early adopter of clipless pedals and used them for years until I entered a 4x race in 2000, threw on some flats, and never went back to clips - I just loved the foot freedom..... I'm a bit duck footed, so I always struggled with cleat angle and pedal retention with clip pedals - my biomechanics led me to unclip myself when using a lot of body english in technical bits, feet releasing from the pedals at the worst possible moment. My wife is also on them nowadays, as she's short and struggled for years to easily unclip when botching a tech climb or whatnot. That said, clip pedals excel at keeping your feet on the pedals in the rough stuff, but they won't work for everyone, so it's great that there's so many options for riders to find their sweet spot. Or you can be like Hans Rey and run one clip pedal and one flat pedal.

    Always run flats with 5 shoes, all well and good riding on your groomed tracks but in a muddy bermed corner with a jump straight after trying to clip back in with mud when your committed to a jump give me flats all day. Flat shoes with a sticky sole and if not washed in a washing machine before a wet day loads of grip on flats.

    Good flats with matching shoes.. Not fun being the the air and not being able to unclip or on steep technical trails next too massive drop offs .

    what muppet ever came up with calling a pedal clipless that you clip into

    • @GarthFlint-nc2vj
      @GarthFlint-nc2vj 6 часов назад

      The name came from the '90s when "clips" were toe clips; straps and a toe clip. When the modern "clipless" pedal came in there was no clip so "clipless". It is a history lesson. Now that the young rides do not know the history of pedals it is definitely time to get rid of the "clipless" thing.

    Clipless (Clipped) or flats, it really doesn't matter. Just ride what you like. For me and ex cross country rider, i love Clipless. With the eMTB i tried flats for a few rides and hated it. But you ride what you like. :)

    Clips on my mtb where I need all the efficiency I can get. Flats on my emtb where efficiency is not critical but getting off a 50 lb bike in a hurry so the thing will not fall on me is. I like clips much better than flats (30 years of riding clips) but that bit of getting my foot down in a hurry wins. I have bought some shin and knee guards to eliminate pin scars on my shins.

    The funniest thing about clipless pedals is that they have clips... English language is sometimes very funny.

    Clips for dorks

    Clipless are obviously better for riding fast as you never lose grip. Especially with ebikes when you get a lot of vibration through the pedals even on flats as you have so much more speed. And with ebikes you get to do a lot longer technical sections where you'd gas on a normal bike you save so much effort with clipless as you don't have to load the suspension with your feet as you have to with flats to keep pressure to you don't lose contact. But I do prefer flats just because the release is instant which again in technical rhythm rocks is pretty important.

      My feet come slip off a lot more often on my normal enduro compared to my ebike or any other one I have ridden so far. I will wear clipless on road bikes and xc because you can put down more power and be smoother. Clipless have caused me to get hurt a couple times on aggressive riding .

    If you have ever been riding and found yourself seriously considering “do eyelashes have muscles and if so could I use them to finish this ride?” Then - clipless are great. Clipless DO NOT make you faster BUT they do help tremendously when your brain is otherwise occupied or simply leaves the chat. Yes, you utilize the “pull” feature of clipless to break up the load on your leg muscles. Yes, clipless keep your feet in optimal pedaling position. Yes, when your sight line gets blurry from bumps and chatter clipless keep your feet attached. They are lousy for doing tricks that require your feet to leave the pedals. Only certain combinations allow you to walk well. AND Finally, you MUST train yourself to get in and out without thinking - but you CAN do it quick enough to dab at will.
