Gaillardia is a beautiful flower. In 2023 fall, i sow wildflower mixes in a part shade full clay soil. In late spring I found gaillardia, coreopsis, 4 o'clock, bachelors button and spotted bee balm. Only gaillardia flowered the whole year 2024 until it snowed this year! Loved it. Will see if they come back this year or not.
Starting gaillardia for the first time this year. Golden beauty makes a cute yellow ball and is an annual according to Burpee. It is our state flower here in Oklahoma so maybe I will get lucky and it overwinters.
💚 I had a gaillardia that I rescued from a bug box store and girl that plant just kept on giving even through the crazy heat. ❤ I left it in the garden so will see if it makes it through this winter.
Great video as always! I put an order in to swallowtail seeds for a lot of different perennials this year, some I’ll try with winter sowing and others indoors. Looking forward to seeing how they do as first time growing most of these from seed; columbine, Jupiters beard, geum, anchusa, astilbe, and Ptilotus(Joey lamb tail), plus several annuals. So expensive to keep growing annuals for my cut flower garden so I’m hoping these will do well 😊 I’m in zone 5 🇨🇦
I've been growing gaillardia from seed for 2 going on 3 years in nc (same zone as you) all of mine have turned out to be perennial and bloomed like crazy their first year it just took longer for the new ones to start than the older ones. No self seeding so far unfortunately. Thanks for the content!!
I’m growing gaillardia and sapanaria this year too - mesa red and pink beauty. My delphiniums also failed last spring, winter sowing and indoors in my grow room. I had success in fall in my greenhouse and they’re still in there to put out after my last frost date assuming their root systems developed enough before they died back for the winter. They should be ok since I heat the greenhouse to 45 degrees for my over wintered fuscias. Fingers crossed.
Your videos have absolutely changed my seed starting game for the better. I really appreciate your teaching methods. (It snowed in San Antonio last night!)
Excited to see your winter sowing! I have done it the last couple years with pretty good success. I am going to try freezer baggies this year along with my normal jugs, takes less soil and I follow a lady on Instagram that has great success with this process!
I love gaillardia--see it growing perennially here in spots sewn as wildflowers--no watering or care-must be hardy varieties as many flowers winter kill. As always, thanks for an interesting bit of information on seed starting! Have a happy day!💚💚💚
Just starting my seeds yesterday. Lilac bush, Verbena, Plumbago and Lisanthus. Old seeds so using them before I start some serious seeding. Enjoy your gardening day.
Ive been growing a gaillardia in a container for 3 years. It was started as a plant. I like that the plant smells like chrysanthrmum. It didnt like the summer sun shining on it so I had to move it. It has dropped seeds and now has babies. The variety is Arizona Sun.
Yes, I will typically either cut out the seedlings that I don’t want to to continue to grow OR I will wait until all of the seedlings have developed their first set of true leaves and then carefully separate the seedlings and replant them allZ
I think you are right about the light colored sweater … I actually filmed two more videos after this in the same sweater and had to completely redo those two … I couldn’t reshoot this one because I had already planted the seeds in the video 🤷♀️
I like the shorter seed starting videos! Thanks!
I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Seed starting is fun!
Definitely!
Another great video, thanks so much ❤

You are so welcome!

Good luck with your delphiniums!
I like your seed starting videos. You just sow a few at a time. You try things I've not tried before.
I am glad they are helpful!
Excited you are doing winter sowing. This is my first year trying it. So far so good!
I hope it works out well for you!

That sounds like a great idea! I'll have to try that! My way it a little OCD but it works for me!

Good morning, great videos, a question about saponaria, could you just put vermiculite instead?
I would think so, it’s worth a try!

Hi Amanda! When you sow more than 1 seed to a cell, do you pinch away the smaller sprouts and leave the strongest one to grow? ❤

@ Thank you for the info!
i try delphinium coulpe of times and no luck so far
problem with camera focus may be caused by a light-colored sweater

My delphinium failed too gah I can grow almost anything else for some reason delphinium is just that one I can’t grow tried several times with no luck
It seems to be hit or miss for me!
