  • Hi everyone! This is my first video in my brand new series "My Disability in Detail"! I figured it would be very helpful for others with hemiplegia to either relate or maybe just start a conversation about abilities, instead of just the disability part of hemiplegia. I also thought it would be helpful for able-bodied viewers to understand the details with my specific disability. I really hope you enjoy this series because I actually had a lot of fun creating this first video! Don't forget to subscribe and contribute to my new Subscriber goal: #RoadTo500Subscribers :)

    Thanks for sharing. It sounds more like tone/spasticity/weakness in the arm and hand rather than being paralyzed. Your brain seems to have some connection, it seems to need a jump start. I'm going through the same thing and the motor control lab at my rehab is devising a plan specifically for my needs. Heat and putting your hand in hot/freezing cold water may help try to wake up the hand. You can also try also try tying a water bottle or a small weight to your hand to try to build strength. There's also a splint called the stretch that can help straighten your wrist to release some of that tone. Some doctors may also prescribe Baclefon medication or increase it if you are already taking it, to reduce the tone. I'm coming up on 2 years post. I can move my arm a little bit and make a fist. I had a brain bleed in September of 2022, due to an AVM. I hope you make a full recovery.

    I'm currently writing a book with a hemiplegic character, and I learned a lot with this video. Thank you for sharing and spreading awareness 💗
    I have a question though: do you have any sensation in your hemiplegic arm and leg?

    • @Shaelyn
      @Shaelyn  11 месяцев назад +1

      That’s so cool, I’m glad i could help! It’s very different for everyone, but for me personally I do have very little sensation. The sensation i do have is almost like when you get your mouth frozen at the dentist, sometimes it even feels like when one of your limbs “fall asleep” but without the tingles. It’s the strangest thing really, and it’s funny you bring it up cause i was just thinking about it the other day! The stiffness in my arm can almost be nice sometimes when I use it to carry something because i don’t have to feel how heavy something is or think about holding it because my arm’s spasticity just does all the work for me lol

      @@Shaelyn Thank you for replying :) It really does help! So does it mean you don't feel at all the pain, burn, cold... or you feel it but lessened?

      No I was very lucky! My Physio therapists were always so surprised that I never had any subluxation. I had an Ischemic stroke.
