After some research it looks like this is a roller delayed blowback system. I can’t quite be certain that the barrel isn’t reciprocating but it certainly looks fixed in place. In that case the weapon this is closest to in operation would be the HK21. What is very interesting is how the bolt design can absorb so much energy in such a short receiver. From the disassembly pictures it looks like there is a complicated buffer system involved. I’m guessing the roller geometry is ridiculously tightly tollerenced and perhaps a two stage spring system is implemented to absorb energy as well. Very cool system. @CripsyWaffles43as an alternative to when you don't want to deal with belts dangling about, I could see the benefit. (imagine having to navigate dense shrubland; I could imagine the belt getting annoying real quick)
I think I speak for many of the American people when I say we want a GPMG of 7.62 NATO or greater punching power (.338NM is an attractive alternative) to replace the 240B. And I think we want someone manufacturing it who isn’t already in control of the Army’s new battle rifle, SAW, and pistols. As a former Cav Scout, I loved the 240B and coaxial C, but, I think it’s time we upgraded our armor-defeating capabilities and modern auxiliary features. That quick-change barrel looks especially impressive. Who else here wants to see this thing go into Army trials? Marine trials? All services? We should test it.
I think you’ll find you speak for maybe 100 american people. I SPEAK FOR MOST AMERICANS when I say; we just want a machine gun! All gun laws are unconstitutional.

You say that but you don’t need to use the slide function. In the first clip of it loading, they load it with the tray fixed in place like any other belt fed. Could just be an optional mod for using optics that would get in the way otherwise
I know Mr. Pressberg has discussed this concept multiple times. Not to replace the Medium machinegun but to replace the M2. It gets the range you need with higher velocity and lighter rounds and a lighter gun. Meaning guys can easily deploy this in the mountains as opposed to the m2 which is a significant emotional event when dismounted. Also Kiowas and other aircraft can stay in the air longer because they can carry more rounds per pound
338 norma magnum has roughly 4,000 FTLBs of muzzle energy vs .50bmg with 13k. The army has stated that there will be NO replacement for the M2 Browning. The .338 machine guns are strictly there to give socom an extra boost in firepower period.
@@or6060 The weight is probably dependent on what configuration/caliber you're running. I'll be a bit more specific about the lack of a nutsack. They probably dont want the extra weight hanging off the moveable feed tray, could cause it to bind, wear excessively, stress other feed components, etc. It wouldn't just be hanging off the reciever like on an M240
Very interesting, I don’t know why but I immediately got the impression and feeling of German ww2 engineered mags when I first saw this but what I see is amazing American ingenuity and engineering- very cool and innovative
This new weapon system is awesome, revolutionary, and basically guarantees battlefield Overmatch wherever it is employed. One downside I see is the visible and felt recoil in full auto but the power of the round and velocity to reach out to a "1600m effective range" definitely makes up for that. Also it could be easily employed as a Sniper System as well in the same mission. Just a wonderful piece of kit I hope the US Military takes a good look at, especially for Special Operations and even Ranger Battalion level. Keep up the great work!
Looks really cool. I like the emphasis on simplicity and lightweight. Sort of a 338 NM MG42? Before they go too far down the road, the 338 NM cartridge case needs updating to a modern 30° shoulder instead of 41°. This would provide benefits - and, no, would NOT hurt feeding reliability one bit. Any chance of using "constant recoil" tech no minimize recoil to the bare minimum? I see room to extend the rear receiver toward the buttstock to allow for increased bolt carrier travel so it doesn't slam the rear wall but instead is reversed by spring resistance alone.
I think you mean 60°, like on the 6.5 Creedmoor and 300PRC and stuff? But anyway, why should they? The 338NM does what it is supposed to do very well. And if a different shoulder angle would provide so much more benefits, don't you think the guys at Norma or someone else wouldn't have already done it?
@akman1947 I chatted with them about this at SHOT Show 2024 and they didn't want to get into details but implied it used something similar to constant recoil and that recoil mitigation was a design goal.

@@teddyf9438, AMEN! And if it wasn't for the NRA, Regan, and a VERY sketchy voice vote, we'd be able to buy one of these lovely new belt feds, sadly, due to the Hughes Amendment, we can't. 😢
@@teddyf9438 I 100% agree that all gun laws are unconstitutional. I think the NFA should be repealed. I believe sane, sober, moral, prudent citizens have a necessary right to own and operate automatic weaponry responsibly.
That is not mutually exclusive with wanting the Army to hold field trials for a new GPMG. The M240 is getting on in age and infantry and light vehicle armor is getting thicker. We need a harder piercing general purpose machinegun round on the battlefield.
@@teddyf9438
All guns laws are unconstitutional? Then if the background check needed to allow gun-purchasing is in the law, is the background check unconstitutional? That's not sound at all.
@@militustoica
And how would you make it so that only the sane, sober, moral, prudent citizens are allowed to these guns?
There has to be some legal frame to that, ergo laws, right?
Something about this is screaming WW2 german Mg38

I saw an FDE MG42 as well.
Honestly the tray mechanism looks awesome
Hope the tray doesn't have a lot of fiddly parts that are potential reliability traps. Needs proving.
Looks like something thats gonna break.
@@RexusOutfittersSomething like the evolys would’ve been great but that would require a big redesign.
You say that but you don’t need to use the slide function. In the first clip of it loading, they load it with the tray fixed in place like any other belt fed. Could just be an optional mod for using optics that would get in the way otherwise
@@AT-xr8qh At any rate, I chatted with them at SHOT Show 2024 about it and they assured me it is robust enough. I was satisfied with their answer.
Doubtful this will replace the M2 any time soon. If anything, the 240 I would think, especially since this has a 7.62 kit with it.
That's not gonna happen, you'd be better off making a universal GPMG by improving the m240l and then lightening the m2. [
Significant emotional event had me rolling.
338 norma magnum has roughly 4,000 FTLBs of muzzle energy vs .50bmg with 13k. The army has stated that there will be NO replacement for the M2 Browning.
The .338 machine guns are strictly there to give socom an extra boost in firepower period.
Sadly, in their infinite wisdom, the Army got rid of the Kiowa a few years ago. SMH.
Shut up and take my money
ATF always cock blocking
That looks slim and easy to use... Unlike that new Sig mg that looks like a box with a pistol grip lol
At least with the SIG, you can use a drum for ammo lmao have fun being forced to use a belt all the time
Good heavens. Imagine having an effective range that is over a mile and not having to lug around BMG.

why didn't you make a belt box to go with it? seems like such a simple thing that any modern belt fed wouldn't be seen without.
Or something like those 50-round cloth pouches for the M240.
Probably has something to do with the moveable feed tray, these guys wouldn't just overlook a belt bag
@@juanitoarmas736 i think a bottom mounted box would be fine. they also didn't mention the weight which is a pretty important thing for an MMG
@@juanitoarmas736 why would the weight of the belt box be on the feed tray? It would just attach to the bottom of the receiver.
How long until it's available to citizens (the ones who pay the salary of those working in government)?
This MG actually looks beautiful, like the MG3 or the PKP.
Man, y'all were really eager for that acronym
Very interesting, I don’t know why but I immediately got the impression and feeling of German ww2 engineered mags when I first saw this but what I see is amazing American ingenuity and engineering- very cool and innovative
Same the profile reminds me of the MG-34, which is a good design.
They copied European designs lmao
This new weapon system is awesome, revolutionary, and basically guarantees battlefield Overmatch wherever it is employed. One downside I see is the visible and felt recoil in full auto but the power of the round and velocity to reach out to a "1600m effective range" definitely makes up for that. Also it could be easily employed as a Sniper System as well in the same mission. Just a wonderful piece of kit I hope the US Military takes a good look at, especially for Special Operations and even Ranger Battalion level. Keep up the great work!
This is the coolest looking machine gun I've seen! Would buy an airsoft replica just to hang on the wall.
Why not be an American and push to repeal the Hughes amendment so we can own the real thing, not a toy for children?
good luck putting that sliding shelf back in when its covered in dirt...
You’re confusing Lapua Magnum (LM) and Norma Magnum (NM). 338NM already has ultra sharp shoulder angle.
@@azeke8 Please double-check your info. Search for a 338NM cartridge diagram.
That would be a .338 Norma Improved.
@akman1947 I chatted with them about this at SHOT Show 2024 and they didn't want to get into details but implied it used something similar to constant recoil and that recoil mitigation was a design goal.
This is an outstanding piece of equipment.
That feed system looks awesome and the whole weapon has a clean and simple look to it, Nice work.
