The steel ball bearings are shot using a quick electric pulse to the solenoid from an electric staple gun. This creates a magnetic field that launches the ball. We used the existing electronics from a staple gun (careful, it's high voltage). A vertical tube serves as a magazine that allows gravity to feed the ammo down to the barrel. A magnet on the bottom side of the barrel holds the ball bearings in proper position. We have a website showing the robot these were made for.
