'Suite Madame Blue' is a hidden gem by Styx🤘 You'll really enjoy it🤘
Not a hidden gem for any Styx fan. : )
@@5burowz Awesome song. Equinox may be their best album.
@@McShaganpronouncedShaegen Damn straight. SMB is my favorite song by them of all time I think. That pure note at the "midpoint" of the solo taught me what it means when people say "the instrument sang". It is SOOOOO good.
Those harmonies! Love that song.
Really showcases Dennis DeYoung's voice!
Lex is totally right when she talks about different singers having different facial and body structures. those structures can lend themselves to different sounds that the face and body produces.
This is not the original version from the Styx II album. It is a remastered version. Great song, it was Styx's first big hit before Kenny Rogers did Lionel Richard's "Lady"
Correct. It's not the original, but still awesome.
Yes, Styx actually could not use any of the original tracks due to contractual obligations. They rerecorded the entire song and this version is "Lady '95".
Must be the Pandora version or something.
Not "remastered", it's a new fully re-recorded version. Still great, and they tried to make it sound as close to the original as possible. But "remaster" means something else entirely. One plus, Tommy Shaw is a part of it. He wasn't on the original recording.
Not re-mastered, actually re-recorded. Original recording is better in my opinion, I always dismissed this newer version
Styx has the "singer/song writer" vibe along with the "rock" vibe melded together. Hard to duplicate.
Definitely not the Kenny Rogers version of “Lady” !! 🤣🤣🤣
@@SirManfly nope but it's much better
The Little River Band also had a big hit called "Lady" in 1978 which was a cool hit.
So did Lionel Ritchie, and Kenny Rodgers.
this is better
@@matthewfoley252 I agree.
LOVE it as well!
Dennis DeYoung wrote this song as an anniversary gift about and for his wife.
It rocks 🪨 🎸
Yet omitted her name.
She performed on stage with him when I saw them about 5 years ago. He FaceTime his mother in law and had us sing happy birthday to her in California .
I heard that about Babe, not Lady.
@@frankmcbride7051 I hear ya. The lyrics to "Babe" wouldn't fit into the anniversary theme though.
I was a kid when came out and loved it so much and still love how it sounds these songs bring back such great memories and how they made you feel
Styx is one of the best.
Crystal Ball is a good one, Suite Madame Blue, Castle Walls...they were really big in the 1970's lots of hits and some really interesting stuff. This isn't the original version, which was better than this one.
Oh yes, Crystal Ball!
Crystal Ball and Suite Madam Blue are on my playlist!
I second Crystal Ball and Suite Madam Blue!
Suite madam blue is a vocal journey
Saw them in 81!
It's called a "Power Ballad". First time I remember hearing this song was at a 7th grade house party playing Spin-the-Bottle. Good times!
Yeeeeeeup!!
"Elastic"...what a perfect description of Dennis DeYoungs voice. 🙂👍
The song that Put this Chicago band on the Map! Dennis DeYoung is the man the voice of rock music in the 70’s and 80’s. Great in concert still sounds exactly the same after 50 years
Sorry bud this isn't Dennis. Glen Burtnik sang lead on this for the 95 Styx greatest hits release. and had been the lead since 1990. He does kind of sound like Dennis but if you put them up to each other there really is no comparison. Dennis kills this song and was responsible for most of their top 40 hits but was also the one that tried to take this rock band into a direction that most of the real fans hated.
@@McShaganpronouncedShaegen holy shit that breaks my heart…seen Dennis live a few years ago and he was so damn amazing! I need to stop listening to these songs on my iPhone speakers. Very thankful for the heads up!
@@McShaganpronouncedShaegen Yeah, you're right. Voices are "close but no cigar" as the saying goes. Sort of like comparing Journey front man Steve Perry and Arnel Pineda. The replacement just doesn't quite cut it for me.🙁
@@willhorting5317 lol I was just informed on my original post that I am incorrect about the vocals on lady. Wiki stated it was Dennis 20 years later. Thought I do know there was a lot of bad blood during these years with what was going on I still have a hard time believing that this was Dennis, but hey I was wrong once back in the 80s. )
@@McShaganpronouncedShaegen 👍 I was aware that this was Dennis on vocals, as I used to have the "album" this version is from (as I also had every other Styx album up to that time). Anyway, I seen no reason to bring that up in my previous comment.😎 It doesn't change anything about my previous comment either.😁 I have seen/heard Dennis's replacement sing the song. And I stand by my opinion. He's close but no cigar.
Every one of your reviews I fall in love with you Lex.You are adorable!
Renegade was the song that finally hooked me---for life.
Dennis DeYoung was a fantastic singer, pianist, and songwriter. They were never the same without him. Beautiful song with his emotional vocals.
One of the 1st Styx songs I heard back in the day! Hooked ever since. I remember waiting for the next album to come out. That and AC/DC, Rush, Kansas, etc...what a great time to live.
Poor Brad lol...i love when he's trying to figure out what lex is talking about... Great reaction.
This is actually "Lady '95" and is a rerecording of the song. The band wanted to put out a compilation album but couldn't get the permission to use the original version from their old record company, so they rerecorded it and it ended up on their "Styx: Greatest Hits" album.
The original was performed with James Curulewski….pre-Tommy Shaw. Re-recording it allowed it to be performed by the Styx with Tommy.
I could tell it was different, but didn't know the why.
I thought this was a diff version. I actually like the lead vocals alot better than the original.
@@josephgallagher945 original was better
Love queen of spades. And sing for the day.
"Lady" was an early 70s hit for Styx. The original audio (this one's re-recorded) is even better. They've a ton of material, and you've reacted to a few songs, so here's a few more that come to mind: "Prelude/Suite Madame Blue" "Light Up" "The Grand Illusion" "Babe" "Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)" "Why Me?" "Too Much Time On My Hands" "Nothing Ever Goes as Planned" "The Best of Times" "Show Me the Way" "Edge Of the Century" (more)
Listened to a lot of Styx back in the day. Great Band
Oh, that DROP!
Suite Madame Blue. Official remastered version. It’s a Great song about America and the “Blue Lady” that stands over her Harbor. Brad would totally get the lyrics, and the crunchy guitars will enthrall Lex. Gotta do this one next!!
This song is so beautiful that it brings tears. Thank you, Styx, for such beautiful music.
Great song, my favorite by styx
Mood-setter song.
Early Styx is really great stuff. Also check out their other early tunes , "I'm gonna make you feel it.", "Unfinished Song", "Winner Take All". ✨✨✨
Saw them in 81...one of the concerts I've been to!
The song that started it all...
Oh and by the Lexy, many of the classic rock bands of our time (For me, the 70's) always seemed to have a ballad in their repertiore. It was a way to show soft side.
This was their first hit. Thank you for doing this.
He must REALLY love her. They lyrics are hauntingly beautiful.
Dennis DeYoung On music like this and Tommy Shaw sang the rock stuff. These two as a vocalist for this band was just unbelievable
I'm so glad you guys finally did this song. One of my favorite Styx songs and one of the love songs vocalist Dennis De Young wrote for his wife Suzanne ("Babe" is the other, from several years later in 1979). This song is so cool how it builds from ballad to banger... and I love the hauntingly beautiful melody as well as the cool exclamation point ending. And Brad, De Young was hardly infatuted with his "Lady." This song was recorded in 1972 and he is still married to her. They were high school sweethearts and have been married since 1970. Lex, listen to it again, noticing the lyrics. Beautiful love song, really.
Best 70s Highschool sock hop slow dance songs of all time. Well one of the best. Thanks again for sharing this wonderful song with us all. 😎
First time I heard this song is when I went into the 9th grade it was on the jukebox at our high school. Today I’m going to my youngest daughter’s graduation at the same high school and automatically thought of this song. So many wonderful memories like in another Styx song some happy some sad . Great reaction guys .
"Your hands build me up when im sinking" Guys this is the kind of woman you want in your life.
Styx "Suite Madame Blue"
Dennis DeYoung's voice is spectacular. He went solo and had a hit with Desert Moon. Don't miss it!
I had that album. I wish I'd kept my vinyl.
This is the song that started it for them. I saw them live twice, the first time Dennis DeYoung's voice was just purely powerful. Too bad they couldn't keep him in the band.
They could if they did the right thing.....they *wouldn't* is more like it. Even if it's just for a few shows to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of STYX this year. They've been offered A LOT of money at prime venues and still won't do the right thing for the fans.
Disheartening, petty and downright cruel imo.
It's gotten so bad that the band members (Tommy) took to mocking Dennis' love ballads to his wife after having pushed him out of his own band and getting court injunctions to prevent Dennis even mentioning Styx when he plays concerts on his own. No wonder that the 50th anniversary could not be put together, so much bitterness and jealousy.
Thanks for doing Lady , no one has reacted to this song ,Love this song !
Epic song 🎵
"Too Much Time On My Hands" is another great hit from them. This hit of theirs is timeless.
"Man in the Wilderness" is one of my Favorites
My favourite Styx song ever! Great song from a great band!
This song always reminds me of a young lady I met in my youth. She had the most beautiful sparkling blue eyes.
Foolin Yourself by Styx is their best song
Bradandlex, I haven’t seen regular tv for a month since discovering your show. Love it.
"I wonder if its like Kenny Rogers" Girl, you almost killed me outright with that one!
He doesn't have a long face...very handsome!
Thank you for your reaction. I can't wait to see you react to more Styx.
Lexi always has the best interpretations lmfao "A long face" tooo funny.
'Suite Madame Blue', 'Castle Walls' and 'Crystal Ball' . Trifecta.
All great Rock bands can master the big ballad, and Styx was a great rock band. This is a great example.
Blast from the past! Saw them in the 70s and they were simply huge and revolutionary. Thanks for this.
This takes me back to a quonset hut in Okinawa during Vietnam. I first heard this song there and it made me long for home. I became a diehard Styx fan after that.
I saw Styx and 4 times in concert back in the 80's. Great times. Check out Suite Madam Blue or Crystal Ball.
Songs like this (soft ballad parts and strong guitars, etc.) are called "power ballads" and they were pretty much invented by Styx. This version of Lady is actually called Lady '95. It was recorded in 1995 for the Greatest Hits album. The original Lady was recorded for a different record label (Wooden Nickel/RCA), which refused to give A&M records the rights to use the original recording on the GH album. So they rerecorded it from scratch. It's very very similar to the original, though there are some slight changes. Also, Tommy Shaw appears on the recording. This is interesting for two reasons. One, he didn't appear on the original because he wasn't in the band when it was originally recorded. (John Curulewski was on the original). And two, having Tommy record with them again in 1995 was the beginning of their 90s reunion which led to 2 outstanding national tours...but then a terrible breakup/separation.
Great band, awesome song!
the original power ballad
Family in Jamaica jammin to your reactions! Thank you!
Suite Madam Blue and Castle Walls...great classic Styx.
One of my favorite songs!
My favorite Styx song....love it!!!
Saw Styx , Stallion & Angel at the Municipal Auditorium in San Antonio , Texas 1975, 76
When this song hit, they were still playing proms in Central Wisconsin.
I remember playing this song on the juke box when we were in highschool. I'm so glad I grew up with music from the 70's
Styx Best music was from the mid to late 70s. They really started to fade (like most music) in the 80s. Tommy Shaw is one heck of a talent.
I saw them last summer, they still put on a GREAT concert!!
Wooden Nickel Styx era was glorious, then sadly for the most part with the odd exception, they became Pop Rock Styx, then Broadway Styx, sadness.
@@toddstevens13 In response to eichelbergerphoto....Actually they grew stronger in 1981 with their #1 album "Paradise Theatre". However, Kilroy killed Styx in 1983 in one fell swoop. If they would have come right back after the Dennis, Tommy and JY solo albums to record a new studio album, then Kilroy would have been a mere mistake, a blip, a bump in the road and it wouldn't have killed the band.
My favorite band!
Woooooooo!! Man this song takes me back!!
Great scene in the show “Freaks and Geeks” featuring this song!
I knew Lex reminded me of someone, she looks like Candace Owens!! You two could be sisters!! GORGEOUS!! Oh yeah, and more Rainbow, Black Sabbath with Dio and Dio! LIVE from the 70's , 80's and 90's!!
Styx was/is a stunning band in all of their transformations. "Fooling Yourself" with Tommy Shaw is a must! Todd Zuckerman is the current drummer (since 1995) and perhaps best in the world! Check out his stunning solos folks!
This is one of those songs that people would either hate or love. Brilliantly written with Tommy's underlying guitar riff is pure genius.
This song was originally done 3 years before Tommy joined so I think that is JY on the lead.
Very pretty tune start to finish.❤
Love watching you both react. Keep up the good work. Brings back memories
GREAT Easy Listening Music is how I Always Described STYX!!! ❤️❤️❤️🎸💯🔥👍 Can't remember if you've done any songs from KANSAS but their another Amazing Group from back in the Day!! 👍🔥💯🤘❤️🎸
Love your reactions! You two have good insight to "our" music from way back. Thank you for helping keep this music alive! Hey- could you guys do "Queen of Spades" by Styx sometime?
Dennis DeYoung is my all time favorite singer. He's in his 70's still singing the same. You should check out "Suite Madame Blue" live he holds the note out so long!
Great reaction guys! I love the side-eye looks you give each other LOL!
Love the air guitar licks Lex! Girl you’re turning into a rocker chick! Love it!
Love this song.
Snow Blind is another good one. One of so many!!!! Top 10 groups!
Wedding reception song in the movie “The Hangover”!
I agree lex. I’ve noticed some of the best vocalists have larger longer noses,
Always love how Lexie explains......things.😂 She makes me laugh.
One song by STYX that never gets requested is Miss America !!!!
Listen to the original 1972 studio version. This was their 1995 remake because the original record label wouldn’t let them put it on their greatest hits so they have to re-record it.
We just saw Styx in Southhaven right outside of Memphis and damn they put on a hell of a show . Collective Soul also played and were equally awesome >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>............ The wife and her friends are going to see Styx and some 80's band (maybe Nightranger ) in Florida in a month or so .
Dennis wrote this for his wife, it was never intended to be heard anywhere, much less recorded and released on an album.
Lucky for us the situation changed, classic song.
No problem Lex I’ll explain it for you ,it’s called a melodious voice. Very soothing😜
Thanks Brad for getting it
I’ve always loved this love song-especially the Ravel’s Bolero-like beat at the end.
Great band went to see them live amazing band !
Happy song.
Aloha, Lovely...and ...chickenskin, memories. Innocence ..my 1st concert '76.... a hui hou.
Thank you for sharing this with me 😊
Lex is a push over for a good guitar riff or solo! Love you guys content. Keep doing what ya doing and yes, even in the 70s they made some great tunes. From Styx my fav is Blue Collar Man having been there myself. They struck a chord with the "malaise" of the mid 70s rescission and people loved it. Didn't hurt that Tommy Shaw, the lead guitar, is just awesome.
When the hard rock guitar first kicks in, it's pure magic.
This is a great one from Styx. I would recommend Man in the Wilderness if you continue reacting to them.
First EVER Power Ballad. Suite Madame Blue is GREAT!!
They remade this song after Tommy Shaw joined the band and I like it better…it’s the version you hear most.
Styx is my wife’s favorite band and we have memories and connections with their music….the chorus of the remake version is my text tone for my wife! 😉
