Hey Keith, Thanks so much for the awesome reviews! Quick question: which roll paper would you recommend for this printer, for doing colorful music posters? Don't especially need them to be heavyweight, actually more of classic gig posters. Thank you so much in advance!
Thanks - I never really recommend papers since there is a limited range I get to test (and from the UK only) See the main [written] review for the papers I tested.
Dear Keith, thank you for your very helpful videos! Do you know by any chance up to which weight of paper (in gsm) I can feed through the top paper load slot of the ET-8550 without having troubles? Cheers from Berlin!
Thanks It is dependent on thickness not weight - the two are not the same. The detailed specs may have some info (they vary by country, some have little detail), but I had no issues with 350gsm. However I don't have it here any more so that's just from memory...
Thanks - it's near Steamboat Springs in Colorado - I've been a few time over the years, but this day the sun and water flow (it was April) were ideal to pick out details. It looks at its best as a six foot high print ;-)
hello master, I don't know if it was in your videos that I have the idea that you say that it is possible to force the et 8550 to use pigmented black ink in photos, correct me if I am wrong, but if it is possible how to configure it, thanks...
Any tips or tricks regards the best way to help flatten out cut lengths of roll paper? I use Epson semi gloss 13" roll paper cut to length, it's a decent weight paper ( 265g ) in my Canon Pro 100S. The leading edge and trailing edges in particular are really hard to get flat and as a result I get head strikes which leave thin black lines on my white border.🙁
I've seen several reverse curl approaches- see this one from a current DPR Thread www.dpreview.com/forums/post/65243740 I've not tried it myself - I've had bigger roll paper printers for years
Good day friend, I try to print 31x51 from photoshop, I have a custom defined size but it does not print, it attacks and does not advance, what can happen
Probably too wide - there is a bug in custom sizes sometimes. I ended up setting 12.98" rather than 13" width [translate to your units of choice... ;-) ]
Hey, I looked at several of your videos because I have a dilemma if to buy the L8550 or the L1800 (which is 6 inks ET 14000), do you have maybe any opinions on the L1800 and which is better? I saw you reviewed a lot of printers, maybe you got your hands on that one (or at least at the ET 14000) which is 4 inks (black + cmyk). I don't care about the scanner, interested mainly in prinitng quality and possibly the media (I doubt I will print the hardboards like you in one of your videos, maybe canvas in rare occasions, but I think the 14000 (L1800) can manage that too? Thank you for your time and Best Wishes
Thanks - unfortunately I've never seen that other printer, so can't really make any comparison. I mainly tend to get newer printers as they first appear - they are loans, so they have to go back...
@@KeithCooper Thank you for your fast response, always a pleasure chatting with someone that is into printers like me :) I also do my color profiles and sublimation, L1800 is a great printer (it is basicly the Epson Artisan 1430 with build in ecotank, same printhead and construction but no cartridges). You noticed any flaws in construction of the L8550 (compared to other models?), I got some hints from people that are into printing that build quality of the printer was not up to their expectations for an Epson product (compared to the artisan for example)
The 8550 I had here was a very early one (before the product launch), so I can't draw many conclusions about reliability (it went back to Epson). I quite liked it as a printer.
Hi Keith! I just purchased an ET 8550 and I’m having some issues with my prints coming out with like bits of dry ink all over. When I wipe them away they brush off like pencil eraser but the do leave marks from being ran over by the rollers. Have you had this happen? I’ve only printed maybe 5 photos 8x10 size, so maybe I just need to print a few more times and see if it eventually clears itself out?
Either create a new sheet at the required size/resolution and drop your image into it (resizing as need be) or change the image size (resizing as necessary). Several ways to do it... actual paper size details are set in the printer driver, or something like Epson Print Layout (there are a few glitches WRT page sizes when using the software with the 8550 - it seems not 100% supported) However I use an old photoshop (CS6) on oldish Macs, so I never include precise details in videos, since the operations will look slightly different elsewhere, and I'm not making Photoshop tutorials ;-)
No idea I'm afraid. I don't do the sort of testing that gives such detailed cost data. See here for cost estimates (not sure if they will be including this printer) www.redrivercatalog.com/rr/cost-of-inkjet-printing.html

This definitely should not happen with a new printer - I'd contact Epson

I had a similar issue. It turned out I was putting the glossy paper in upside down, so the printer was printing on the wrong side.
