- In a pushback to the opposition INDIA bloc's bid to corner it on the issue of the Consitution, BJP on Tuesday launched a massive campaign on the 49th anniversary of the Emergency imposed by ex-Prime Minister and Congress leader Indira Gandhi in 1975. Blunting the Congress's attack on the BJP on the issue of the Consitution, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "Those who imposed the Emergency have no right to profess their love for our Constitution". Reacalling the days of Emergency, PM Modi launched a fierce broadside at the Congress and said the grand old party turned the country into "jail" and any person who disagreed with the then Congress government was "tortured and harassed".

The first and foremost rule in any constitution should be “a code of conduct, under which the ruling party should govern and the constructive criticism norms which the opposition should adopt in the parliament.” Instead, the present opposition’s modus operandi only seems hell bent on how to disrupt and instil uncivilised chaos. They should stop behaving like a bunch of clowns, displaying their disgusting and shameful behaviour nationally and internationally!

On the 49th anniversary of Emergency falling on 25th June, 2024, it will be in fitness of things to recall the horrors of Emergency, especially for the guidance of the present-day generation born after 1975.
All well-wishers of India shudder to think of the black day in the democratic and political history of independent India when on 25th June, 1975 on the recommendations of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi the then President of India Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed had proclaimed Emergency merely to protect Indira Gandhi from the verdict of Allahabad High Court declaring her election to Lok Sabha as ultra virus and debarring her from fighting any election for the next 6 years. The President did not have the courage to ask Indira Gandhi the justification for the Emergency and the reason for the absence of the recommendations of her Cabinet. The Cabinet was just informed of the decision of the President shortly before her broadcast on All India Radio.
With the imposition of Emergency, citizens fundamental rights were withdrawn, press censorship was imposed, judiciary was immobilized and all prominent opposition leaders like Jayaprakash Narayan, George Fernandes, Morarji Desai, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Lal Krishan Advani etc etc were imprisoned. In short, the whole country was converted into a prison.
Many excesses of Emergency include inter alia dismissal of opposition-ruled State Governments, rewriting of the Constitution through notorious 42nd Amendment (even killing the soul of the Constitution), mandatory sterilization of the young Hindus in the name of Family Planning (exempting Muslims), compromising judiciary and media etc etc. Strangely, grandson of Indira Gandhi (Rahul Gandhi) has now floated a slogan: "Jiski jitni aabadi, uska utna hak", meaning giving advantage/premium to those producing more kids.
Indira Gandhi was forced to withdraw Emergency on 21st March, 1977, but by that time enough damage to the fabric of Indian polity and democracy had already been done.
Accordingly, present-day Congress and its ecosystem disbursing gyan on protection of Constitution are akin to the Prostitutes disbursing gyan on virginity. They wrongly think that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also like them. Everything looks yellow to jaundiced eyes. All the well-wishers of India have to ensure that dictatorial Congress and its ecosystem will NOT dare to impose Emergency at anytime in future.
